Arthur Henry Schroeder (1906 - 1978)
Arthur Henry Schroeder of Mapleton, the son of Henry H. and Dorothy (Jahde) Schroeder was born December 30, 1906, at Schleswig, Iowa. He died May 14, 1978, at an Omaha, Nebraska, hospital having reached the age of 71 years, 4 months and 14 days.He married Lydia Emma Christine Iwen December 9, 1933, at Canton, South Dakota. They farmed near Charter Oak for two years and moved to a farm in Morgan Township near Schleswig in 1936. They farmed there for 33 years and moved to Mapleton in 1969, and he went to work at Milenstine Fertilizer at Battle Creek.
He was baptized as an infant. He was confirmed during youth at Grant Township Lutheran Church 2 miles north and 2 miles west of Schleswig. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
Services were held Wednesday, May 17, 1978, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Mapleton, Iowa, with Pastor Robert Leege officiating. Burial was in the Morgan Township Cemetery at Schleswig, Iowa. Casketbearers were Edgar Edsen, Ray Bruhn, Harry Jess, J. W. Iversen, Earl Seehusen and Marcus Wodtke. Survivors include several nephews and nieces, two sisters, Mrs. Vonis (Leonard) Reinbold of Mapleton and Mrs. Arlene (Wilferd) Schroeder of Charter Oak, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 1 son, Gene and 2 brothers in the last 1 1/2 years.

Arthur Jurgen Wulf (1907 - 1993)
Arthur Jurgen Wulf was born August 22, 1907, the son of Johannes and Charlotte Kohrs Wulf. He died at his home near Schleswig on Thursday, October 21, 1993 at the age of eighty-six years.Arthur was born on the home farm near Schleswig and received his education in a rural school near his home. He was baptized on December 15, 1907 and confirmed in the Evangelical faith on March 23, 1923. As a young child, his father died and neighbors farmed the land until Arthur was old enough to farm the land himself.
On August 18, 1946, Arthur was united in marriage to Dorothy Wulf of Bronson, Iowa at the Friedens Evangelical Parsonage. The couple settled on the home farm near Schleswig and were blessed with the birth of one son.
Arthur was a loving and caring husband and father who devoted his life to his family. As a young man he worked hard caring for his mother and his sisters and brother. He was a conscientious farmer and cared for the land he farmed with a remarkable diligence. He enjoyed all facets of farming, especially the livestock he raised. In his free time, he enjoyed reading. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorothy in January of 1982, two sisters, Louise Groth, Mollie Hageman and one brother, Harvey. Survivors include one son John of Schleswig and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 23, 1993 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa with Rev. James Schatz officiating the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Dorothy Jessen provided the organ accompaniment for trio, Barb Buffum, Pam Gronau and Janet Lafrentz singing "Rock of Ages" and "Nearer, My God, To Thee". Pallbearers were: Wilbert Groth, Paul Meeves, Vertus Groth, Darlo Pirwitz, Milroy Groth and Arlo Jensen. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.

Arthur Korner (1901 - 1970)
Funeral services for Arthur Korner were held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, on Tuesday, May 5, 1970, with the Rev. F. A. Wiese officiating. Mrs. Ray Schmidt was organist. The hymn "Be Still My Soul" was sung by the choir, and "My Faith To Thee", by the congregation.Arthur M. Korner, son of Herman Korner and Louise nee Miller, was born July 6th, 1901, southwest of the town of Schleswig. He grew up in this community, attending the rural schools and the Schleswig High School.
He was married in 1922 to Minnie Neubauer by Pastor Iversen of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ida Grove. After their marriage the couple farmed in the Schleswig community. In 1947, they moved to Schleswig where Arthur was in semi-retirement. He unexpectedly died, at the Denison Hospital on Sunday after a short illness. Mr. Korner was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church for almost 50 years.
He is survived by his widow Minnie, one son, Donald and his wife, Dorothy. Three grandchildren: Dennis, Michael, and Connie, wife of Ken Schau of Charter Oak and one great grandchild, Robie. Three brothers residing in Schleswig: Ben, Walter and Harry, and one brother, Carl of Charter Oak. He attained to 68 years, 8 months and 27 days.
Pallbearers ware: Raymond Bumann, Johannes Gosch, Frank Jensen. Elmer Namanny, Leonard Schultz, and Ole Wigg. Interment was in the Morgan Cemetery.

August Henry Maack (1908 - 1981)
August Henry Maack was born on November 22, 1908, in Hanover Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the son of August and Wibke Boyens Maack. He died on Thursday evening, May 7, 1981, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, Iowa, at the age of 72. August was raised on a family farm, attending the rural schools near his home.On January 27, 1932, he was united in marriage to Irene Gosch at Ute, Iowa. They made their home on a farm west of Denison. Irene passed away in 1944.
Later on December 10, 1945, August was united in marriage to Renata Alberts. They made their home on a farm near Ricketts. After her death in 1964, August continued to farm near Ricketts.
He was united in marriage to Norma Jean Kastner Harm on November 10, 1965. He continued to farm for additional years before he began working with wood, which he continued during his years of retirement. August was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was a long-time member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Ricketts.
In addition to his parents, his wife Irene and his wife Renata, August was preceded in death by one son Willis and two daughters, Arbie and Lois. Also by one brother, one half-brother and one step-brother.
Survivors include, his wife Norma of Charter Oak, two sons, Myron of Carlinville, Illinois and Dean of Champlin, Minnesota, three daughters, Janice, Mrs. Robert Kastan of Logan, Ruth, Mrs. Charles Green of Lake View and Maureen, Mrs. Lyle Meseck of Schleswig, two step sons, Charles Harm of Kiron and Clark Harm of Ricketts, and two step daughters, Cheri, Mrs. James Streck of Schleswig and Carol, Mrs. Paul Briggle Jr. of Ricketts. Also by ten grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, two sisters, Mrs. Martha Watke of Charter Oak and Lydia Eggert of Denison, one half-brother, Henry Maack of Schleswig and two step-sisters, Hilda Schoenfeld and Anna Hlller, both of Charter Oak.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 11, 1981, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Ricketts. Burial was in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute, Iowa. Vicar Fred Lingenfelder officiated at the services. Pallbearers included Gilbert Nihsen, Bill Reimer, Paul Schwarz, Jim Watke, Ronald Maack and Jim Nemitz.

August Schmadeke (1900 - 1988)
August "Pat" Schmadeke, son of John and Ida Kukuc Schmadeke, was born on October 11, 1900 in Hanover Township, Crawford County, Iowa; and died on November 30, 1988 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 88 years.Pat grew up on the family farm, and attended the St. Paul's Lutheran school in Hanover Township, graduating from the 8th grade. He furthered his education for one year at a Jr. College in Des Moines, Iowa; returning home to work on the farm.
On April 24, 1927, Pat and Henrietta Schultz of Schleswig, Iowa were united in marriage at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with two sons. They made their home on a farm in Hanover Township, retiring from farming in 1965. They continued to live on the farm until 1978 when they moved to Schleswig, Iowa.
Pat was Baptized in November, 1900, and later Confirmed on March 18, 1915 by Pastor Runge, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He and Hattie were members of this Church until 1979 when they transferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, where he was a member at the time of his death. Pat was a devoted husband and father, enjoying his family. He also enjoyed hunting and horse back riding; and was a avid reader.
Pat's mother died when he was 3 months old and he was raised by a devoted step mother, Wilhelmina Lange Schmadeke. Preceding him in death were his mother, father and step mother; one brother; 5 sisters; 1 daughter-in-law; 1 grandson; 1 great-granddaughter; and 2 step sisters.
Survivors include; his wife Hattie of Schleswig; two sons: Louis Schmadeke and his wife Dorothy of Schleswig; Raymond Schmadeke and his wife LaVonne of Kiron; 7 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and 8 step great grandchildren. Also surviving are 2 step sisters; Leona Piel of Redbud, Illinois and Edna Piel of Granite City, Illinois.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 3, 1988, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Pastor Richard Nelson and Pastor Kenneth Hessel officiated at the services. Interment was in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Hanover Township. Mrs. Marlene Hight was organist with the Church Choir and Congregational singing. Selections were "Just As I Am" and "I'm But A Stranger Here." Honorary Pallbearers were Leonard Clausen, Edmund Hamann, Raymond Henningsen, Gordon Nahnsen, Martin Sailer and Lorenz Schultz. Serving as pallbearers were Michael Ashbrook, John Reich, Harlan Schmadeke, Keith Schmadeke, Lonny Schmadeke and Thomas Schmadeke. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig, Iowa.

Charlie William Meeves (1904 - 1984)
Charlie William Meeves was bom on May 3, 1904, near Dunlap, Iowa, the son of Henry and Matilda Ohl Meeves. He died Dec 18, 1984 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 80.Charlie was raised in rural Dunlap and received his formal education in the rural schools near his home.On June 17, 1927, Charlie was united in marriage to Alamita Burton in Charter Oak. Together they farmed near Dunlap and in Crawford County before moving to Odebolt in 1956. Six years later they moved to Denison where Charlie was employed with Iowa Beef. For several years, Charlie worked with the Park Motel in Denison. After their retirement, Charlie and Alamita made their home in Missouri and later Dunlap before returning to Denison. Charlie was a member of the United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie and her husband, Rodney Moeller, a daughter-in-law, Darlene Meeves, five grandchildren, Shannon Moeller, Tracey Moeller, Jenelle Meeves, Barry Walde and Vance Teut and by one brother, Henry Meeves.
Survivors include, his wife Alamita Meeves of Denison, seven children, Viola, Mrs. Virgil Walde of Denison; Betty, Mrs. Everett Teut of Omaha, Neb.; Mary Ann LaFraugh of Omaha, Neb.; Burt Meeves of Denison; Doris, Mrs. Ted Schomer of Omaha, Neb.; Bill Meeves of Bennington, Neb. and Audrey, Mrs. Mo Hallaba of Joplin, Mo. Also surviving are twenty-four grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, two brothers, Edward Meeves of Dunlap and Jerry Meeves of Denison and by two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Christiansen of Dow City and Mrs. Marie Herrig of Eventide Lutheran Home, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Dec. 21, at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Denison. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Dunlap. The Rev. Dr. Scott Woodworth officiated at the services. Mrs. Fred Rabe served as organist with Mrs. Terry Magden as soloist. Hymns included, In The Garden, The Lord's Prayer and the congregation sang, Abide With Me.

Christopf Werneburg (1909 - 1994)
Christopf Werneburg was born of a farm in Hanover Township on August 7, 1909 the son of Herman and Emma Seils Werneburg. He was received into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on September 26, 1909, and confirmed in his Christian faith on April 13, 1924. He attended the Hanover Lutheran School through the eighth grade.In 1927, Christopf moved from Hanover Township to Schleswig. On March 30, 1938, he was united in marriage to Anita Hinricksen at the Lutheran Parsonage in Denison, by the Rev. Carl Schmidt. Their union was blessed with seven children. In 1955 the family moved to Denison, in May of 1968 they moved to Charter Oak and moved back to Denison in 1976. Christopf worked for Crawford County for over 27 years.
Christopf died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital on Saturday, August 6, 1994. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 84 years, 11 months, and 29 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three grandchildren; and two brothers Emery and Willy Werneburg.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Anita of Denison; son, Richard of Denison, daughter Judy Malone and her husband Hans of Schleswig, son Wayne of Nebraska, son Roger and his wife Nancy of Ida Groove, daughter Donna Reynolds and her husband Cliford of Center, TX., son Eugene of Denison, and daughter Janice Bierstedt and husband Steven of Lake View; three sisters, Carmen Baupel of Cedar Rapids, Helga Bruns of Fort Dodge, and Louise Duncan of Missouri; twenty grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Augugt 10, 1994 at the Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison with Rev. Philip Bloch officiating. Vocal selections were "What a Friend We Have in Jesus", "Rock of Ages" and "How Great Thou Art". Interment of cremains was in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Denison. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Clara Anna (Backhaus) Jensen (1902 - 1998)
Clara Anna Backhaus Jensen, daughter of Otto and Annie Liblee Backhaus was born October 8, 1902 in Morgan Township and was baptized at the Grant Township Church and later confirmed In St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak.Clara's mother passed away when she was a very little girl and she lived with her sister, Louise and husband, John Johannsen. They raised her as their own child.
Clara helped on the farm and on February 8, 1922, she married Frank Jensen in Schleswig. They farmed southwest of Schleswig until 1931 when they moved to their own farm northwest of Schleswig. In 1950, they built a new home and enjoyed retirement. To this union, one son, Burdell, was born. Frank and Clara celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1982. Frank passed away three days later.
Clara enjoyed gardening, flowers, baking cookies, pies and playing cards with her friends. She was a member of the United Church of Christ, the Women's Guild and Dorcas Society for many years.
Clara is survived by her son, Burdell and his wife, Orpha; three grandchildren, Patricia Stine and her husband, Jon of Sioux City, Janice Schultz and her husband, Curtis of Schleswig and Brent Jensen and his wife, Barbara of Sioux City; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters-in-law, Adela Jensen and Catherine Jensen of Schleswig; many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters and six brothers.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 21, 1998 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Gordon Hoyt officiated the service and graveside rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Dorothy Jessen provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns, "In The Garden", "How Great Thou Art" and "Rock of Ages". Those serving as pallbearers were: Murlin Johannsen, Marelle Knudsen, Robert Wlebers, Bill Petersen, Frank Hoppe and Terry Kline. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.

Clara D. (Kock) Kroll (1902 - 2000)
Clara D. Kroll, age 98, of Ricketts, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 6, 2000, at Battle Creek, Iowa. Services were held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 9 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township, Charter Oak, Iowa, with Rev. Eugene Ernst officiating. Burial was in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Charter Oak, Iowa. Brenda Christiansen was the organist for the service and the congregation sang, "How Great Thou Art", "I'm But A Stranger Here" and "Rock of Ages". A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.Clara Dorothea Kroll, daughter of Marcus and Bertha (Grube) Kock, was born August 28, 1902, at Panama, Iowa. She was baptized April 12, 1903, at Persia Lutheran Church and confirmed by Pastor Amstein May 24, 1918 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa. She attended schools in the area and also attended sewing school in Ute and worked in various homes in the area.
On March 30, 1922, Clara was united in marriage to Frank Henry Kroll at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Ute. They were blessed with three daughters, Rosie, Selma and Elvera. The couple farmed southeast of Ute for 25 years then moved to a farm southeast of Denison, Iowa. In 1948, they moved to a farm near Ricketts, Iowa. In 1952, they retired and moved into Ricketts where they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1972. Frank passed away August 1, 1974.
Clara always had a big garden and helped with the work on the farm along with raising chickens and ducks. During the school year, she kept many nieces and nephews who attended confirmation classes at Ute.
While living in Ricketts, she worked at the bowling alley, cafe, did babysitting, made quilts and crocheted various things while still having her garden. On September 6, 1986, Clara entered the Denison Hospital after being hit by a car. She was in a coma for two weeks then on September of 1986, she was transferred to Willow Dale Care Center in Battle Creek, Iowa, where she was able to get around in a wheelchair. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township near Ricketts. She was an honorary member of the Ladies Aid.
Those survivors left to cherish Clara's memory include her three daughters, Rosie Goslar of Ute, Iowa, Selma Reincke and her husband, Raymond of Cave Creek, Arizona and Elvera Meseck and her husband, Edgar of Schleswig, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ella Zediker of Pleasant View Nursing Home at Whiting, Iowa and one sister-in-law, Alice Kock of Schleswig, Iowa, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Along with her husband, Clara was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, August, John, and Albert; two sisters, Marguerite Olson and Effel Hein, two grandsons, Francis Meseck and Allan Reincke, and one son-in-law, Earl Goslar.
Pallbearers were Melvin Goslar, Lester Goslar, Earl Johnson, Ray Bathke, Arlen Meseck, Gary Meseck, Gary Reimer and Terry Kline.

Clara (Kluver) Wonder (1907 - 1996)
Clara K. Wonder, 88, of Ida Grove, formerly of Danbury, died Friday, April 5, 1996, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove. Services were held at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, on Monday, April 8, at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. Richard Hempenius officiating. Burial was held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig under the direction of Christiansen-Ciha Funeral Home of Ida Grove.Mrs. Wonder was born Nov. 15, 1907, in Avendorf, Germany, the daughter of Asmus and Emma (Schoer) Kluver. She came to the United States in June 1911 to the Quad City area and then moved to Crawford County with her family. She attended the Schleswig schools.
On Feb. 26, 1925, she married William C. Wonder in Sioux City. The couple farmed in the Schleswig and Danbury areas. He died March 17, 1969. Mrs. Wonder was a member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, the Senior Citizens groups in Schleswig, Battle Creek and Ida Grove, the Highland Ladies Card Club, Danbury and the Ladles Guild, United Church of Christ. She enjoyed reading, playing cards and bingo, gardening and was a talented seamstress.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Roger and Gloria Wonder of Ida Grove and LeRoy and Dorene Wonder of Galva; a daughter, Bonnie Reynolds of San Diego, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Bobbi and Bill Wonder, Rick, Randy and Rod Wonder, Cathy Henningsen and Glenn Reynolds; eight great-grandchildren, and a sister, Helen Kixmiller of Carson.
She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter; a granddaughter, Dianna Lee Schoeppner and a son-in-law. Jack Reynolds. A memorial has been established in her name.

Clara (Stockfleth) Baker (1908 - 2006)
Clara Stockfleth Baker, 98, of Boulder City, Nevada, died on Saturday, September 2, 2006. Clara was born on June 22, 1908 in Otter Creek Twp., Crawford County, Iowa, to Henry and Anna Stockfleth.Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Anna Stockfleth, her husband, Ernest Ray Baker, and her oldest grandson, Randy Jepsen.
She is survived by her sister, Laura Hollander of Denison, Iowa, one son and daughter-in-law, Richard (Dick) and Mary Jepsen of Boulder City, Nevada, one stepson and wife, Dick and Barbara Baker of Carson City, Nevada, one granddaughter, Susan Camara of Lloylton, California, two grandsons and their wives, Kenneth Ray and Monica Jepsen of Folsom, California, Don and April Jepsen of Salt Lake City, Utah and Robin Jepsen (Randy's wife) of Sparks, Nevada. Clara also leaves nine greatgrandchildren, Kendra, Kevin, Rochelle, Cody, Amber, Eric, Alexis, Shawn, and Haley. Her greatest love in her life was her family and friends. She will truly be missed by all.

Clarence Miller (1903 - 1982)
Clarence, son of Charlie and Minnie Thompson Miller, was born Sept. 8, 1903, in Crawford County, Iowa. He attended rural schools near his home. After finishing his schooling he helped his parents on the farm and started his own garage on the family homestead. He continued to work as a mechanic in his own garage on the farm until 1930 when he moved in to Manilla and opened a garage there.On Oct. 15, 1931, he was united in marriage with Golda Fuller at Rockport, Mo. They operated Miller's Ford Garage from 1936 until 1950. Then he operated Miller's Chevrolet Garage until 1973 when he retired. He also owned Motel Denison for ten years, which he operated with his wife. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Manilla.
Clarence had been in poor health for the past five years and entered the Crawford County Memorial Hospital Nov. 30 1982, and died there that evening at the age of 79 years, two months, and 22 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, by one sister in infancy, and by five brothers, John, Frank, Alfred, Guy, and Bill.
He is survived by his wife, Golda, of Manilla, by one brother, Hugh Miller of Loman, Minn., as well as by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Manilla. Officiating was Rev. John Cornish. Organist was Barbara Agan and vocalist was Kay Rutherford. Pallbearers were Harold Eggers, Charles Miller, Eldred Huffaker, Carl Mundt, Jr., Jim Fuller, and Austin King. Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla was in charge of the arrangements.

Clarence Jahde (1906 - 1977)
Clarence Jahde, 71, of Schleswig, died Monday, July 25, 1977 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 27, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. The Rev. Fred Moore officiated. Burial was in Morgan Township Cemetery.Mr. Jahde was born May 17, 1906, near Schleswig. He married Hilda Kropf June 10, 1936, in Council Bluffs. She died March 23, 1977.
Mr. Jahde owned and operated a gas station in Denison after his marriage. In 1942 he moved to the Schleswig area where he farmed. He retired in 1971 and moved into Schleswig.

Amelia Anna (Schwartz, Iversen) Wohlert (1898 - 1976)
Mrs. Amelia Anna Wohlert, Schleswig, daughter of John and Lesetta Willert Schwartz, was born January 24, 1898, at DePue, Illinois, and died at Morningside Manor, Ida Grove, April 13, 1976, at the age of 78 years, 2 months and 19 days.Mrs. Wohlert was the youngest of thirteen children and came to Iowa with her parents at the age of 13 years. They settled on a farm in Hanover Township, where she was confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church. In March, 1916, she was united in marriage to Matthias Iversen in the old Friedens Evangelical Church. Six children were born to this union. They settled on a farm five and one half miles northwest of Schleswig. Mr. Iversen passed away on November 6, 1945.
Mrs. Iversen moved to Schaller, Iowa, where she lived with her daughter, Mildred, until July, 1947, when she married Johannes Wohlert. Amelia and Johannes lived on a farm near Schleswig until 1953, when they moved to Schleswig. She transferred her membership to the United Church of Christ in Schleswig in 1955. Late in 1972, Mrs. Wohlert moved into Morningside Manor in Ida Grove, due to ill health. Mr. Wohlert passed away in March, 1975.
Amelia was preceded in death by her husbands, Mathias Iversen and Johannes Wohlert; four sons who died in infancy; five brothers and sisters who also died in infancy; two brothers, John and William and three sisters, Minnie Huepenbecker, Lizzie Gierstorf and Emma Schultz.
Survivors include her two daughters, Mildred (Mrs. Harry Schwanz) of Denison, and Lesetta (Mrs. Raymond Loeck) of Charter Oak; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sophia (Mrs. William Huepenbecker) of Marshall, Michigan, and Anna (Mrs. Jurgen Iversen) of Ida Grove; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Johannes William Henrich Wohlert (1894 - 1975)
Johannes William Henrich Wohlert, a son of Kasper and Marguerite nee Janssen Wohlert, was born July 27, 1894 in Crawford County, and departed from this life March 22, 1975, at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove. His life spanned 80 years, 7 months and 22 days.He received his education in the rural schools of Crawford County, and was baptized and confirmed in the United Church of Christ. He spent almost his entire life on a farm northwest of Schleswig.
He was united in marriage to Amelia Schwartz Iversen on July 19, 1947, and they lived on the farm until 1952 when they moved to Schleswig. In 1972, he and Mrs. Wohlert entered Morningside Manor in Ida Grove. He was a member of the United Church of Christ.
Survivors include: his wife, Amelia; his sister, Minnie, Mrs. Matt Wilken of Schleswig; two step-daughters, Mildred, Mrs. Harry Schwanz of Denison, Iowa, and Lesetta, Mrs. Raymond Loeck of Ricketts; two grandchildren, Arlo Schwanz and Mrs. Karen Keating; three great-grandchildren, Matthew and Mary Keating and Brian Schwanz, besides several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Chris, and a sister Lena, Mrs. John Schwartz.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 25, 1975, at the United Church of Christ, Schleswig, Iowa. Mrs. John Evers was organist. Mrs. Ernie Grell and Mrs. G.M. Johnson sang "The Lord is My Shepherd" and "Abide With Me". Bearers were Emil Iversen, John Iversen, Erlin Ewoldt, J.W. Iversen, Andrew Clausen and Reinhard Gierstorf. Interment was in the Morgan Cemetery.

Sadie Loreda (Brockman) Carstensen (1898 - 1977)
Sadie Loreda Carstensen was born on May 22, 1898 near Charter Oak, the daughter of Henry and Bertha Brockman. She died on Aug. 29, 1977 at Manning General Hospital, Manning, at the age of 79.Sadie was raised on the family farm near Charter Oak and received her formal education in the rural schools of the area. She was baptized and later confirmed into the Lutheran faith at St. John's Lutheran Church, Charter Oak.
On Febr. 8, 1922 she was united in marriage to Christian Carstensen at her family home near Charter Oak. To this union were born two daughters and a son. With her husband Chris they lived and farmed in Hanover Township for a numbers of years later to farm in the Schleswig and Mapleton areas. They farmed in the Denison area before retiring in 1945 and moving to Denison. In 1973 both Sadie and Chris became residents of Manning Plaza.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother.
Survivors include two daughters, Evelyn, Mrs. Wilbur Reimers of Denison and Lois, Mrs. Glen Deiber of Schleswig and one son Wilbur of Van Meter. Also by 10 grandchildren, three brothers William Brockman of Charter Oak, Carl Brockman of Melbourne, and Fred Brockman of Charter Oak and by one sister Mable, Mrs. David Nelson, also of Charter Oak.
Funeral services were held Aug. 31 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Denison. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery. The Rev. Gary Hoffstetter officiated at the services. Pallbearers included Walter Maack, John Maack, Emil Meggers, William Spiegel, John Neumann and Walter Boehm. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Shirley Schultz (1907 - 1975)
Funeral services for Shirley Schultz were held Wednesday, August 13, 1975 at Sacred Heart Church, Woodbine, Iowa. He passed away at an Omaha hospital following a prolonged illness.Prayer services were held in Omaha Monday evening and at Woodbine, Iowa Tuesday evening. Father Robert Schoemann, Chaplain Phil Lathrop of Bergan Mercy Hospital, Omaha, and Father Eugene Koch of Missouri Valley officiated at the services and at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Dunlap, Iowa where interment was made. Pallbearers were nephews, Jerry Houston, Richard Houston, Mike Houston, Martin Houston, James Kelsey and Mike Havlik.
Shirley Shultz, only son of Dr. Walter Schultz and Lillie Hollander Schultz, was born at Schleswig, Iowa February 14, 1907. His early education was obtained in the local school and collegiate work was done at Omaha University.
His marriage to Eileen Houston took place September 20, 1930 at Dunlap, Iowa. They lived in Omaha a short time, later moving to the Ida Grove area where they farmed for twenty years. They moved to Harrison County in 1951 and have since made their home near Woodbine, Iowa.
Five children were born to this union, two of whom preceded their father in death, Jack, 1954, and Tom, April, 1975. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Eileen, are three children, Dr. Richard Schultz, Omaha, Dr. James Schultz, San Diego, California, and Mrs. Krishna (Patti) Birusingh, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Sophia L. (Thomsen) Evers (1908 - 1983)
Sophia L. Evers was born on a farm in Goodrich Township, Crawford County, Iowa, Feb. 12, 1908, the daughter of Thomas and Meta Neddermeyer Thomsen. She was baptized as an infant in 1908, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and was confirmed into the Lutheran faith at the same church, April 9, 1922. Sophia was raised on the family farm and received her education at the Zion Lutheran School in Denison. Following her schooling she did domestic work for families in Denison.On July 19, 1927, Sophia was united in marriage with William C. Evers at Charter Oak. To this union four daughters, Shirley, Clarion, Evelyn, and Marilyn, were born. They made their home on a farm in Goodrich Township until 1967, when they retired from farming and moved to Denison where she had since resided.
Sophia died at her home in Denison, Jan. 27, 1983. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 74 years, 11 months, and 15 days. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and a member of the Dorcas Society at the church.
Sophia was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, William C. Evers of Denison, her four daughters, Shirley (Mrs. Virgil) Winquist of rural Denison, Clarion (Mrs. Melvin) Holdsworth of Manilla, Evelyn (Mrs. Robert) Rank of Clarinda, and Marilyn Evers of Chula Vista, Calif., eight grandchildren, one brother, Arnold Thomsen of Lees Summit, Mo., and two sisters, Louise (Mrs. John) Nicholson of Sun City, Ariz. and Mildred (Mrs. Leonard) Starr of Mullen, Neb. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 29, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with the Rev. Jack D. Heck officiating. Comfort in music was provided by Henry Henningsen singing "How Great Thou Art" and "In The Garden", with Mrs. Fred Rabe as organist. Pallbearers included Randall Holdsworth, Stanley Winquist, Sydney Winquist, William E. Bump, Derald Evers, and Alfred Schoenfeld. Burial was in the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. The Pfannebecker-Maxwell Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Christena Frederika (Witt) Krohnke (1881 - 1971)
Funeral services for Christena Krohnke were held on Friday, June 11, 1971 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig with Rev. F.A. Wiese officiating. Mrs. Ray Schmidt was the organist. The congregation sang "Bless Be The Tie That Binds" and the choir sang "My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less".Christena Frederika, daughter of Fritz Witt and Johanna nee Ohl, was born at Denison, Iowa on June 16, 1881. She grew up in the Denison community. On February 25, 1902, she was joined in marriage to John Krohnke with Rev. Runge performing the ceremony. After their marriage, the couple lived in Schleswig where John was in business. Her husband died in 1940. She was confirmed as an adult in 1941 in the Lutheran Church, with Pastor E. Schwidder instructing her. She was a long time member of the Ladies Aid Society.
For the past six years Christena made her home at Eventide. She died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital on Tuesday evening June 8. She attained to 89 years, 11 months and 22 days.
She was preceded in death by her husband John, her son Vernon and two sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by one sister Ella Wilson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, a daughter-in-law Florence Krohnke of Schleswig, a grandson Verdell of Janesville, Wisconsin, and two great-grandchildren, David and Eric.
Pallbearers were: John Witt, Harlan Buffum, Vern Wilson, George Wilson, Emmett Hollander and Rudolph Stender. Interment was in Morgan Cemetery.

Thelma Helen (Wilken) Raun (1906 - 1980)
Thelma Helen (Wilken) Raun was born Sept. 10, 1906, at Lindsay, Wis., the daughter of Anton and Bertha Helgeson Wilken. She died Oct. 5, 1980, at Missouri Valley Iowa, the result of a car-train accident. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 74 years and 25 days.Thelma was raised in Lindsay, Wis., area until she was 16 years of age when the family moved to Lincoln, Nebr. She was graduated from the Lincoln High School and furthered her education at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Upon receiving her teaching certificate, Thelma taught school for one year at Diller, Nebr., and one year at the Deloit, Iowa school.
On Aug. 20, 1929, Thelma was united in marriage with Ernest A. Raun at Sherry, Wis. They made their home in Denison where she had since resided. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Denison, Sylvan Chapter No. 207 Order of Eastern Star, Denison, Iowa, Friday Club, and a number of Bridge Clubs in Denison.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Arent Wilken.
She is survived by her husband Ernie A. Raun of Denison, two daughters, Barbara, Mrs. Wesley Barton of Dallas, Texas, and Nancy, Mrs. Paul Oxley of Shawnee Mission, Ks., five grandchildren, two sisters, Louella Knapp of Denison and Adelaide, Mrs. W.H. Browne of Lincoln, Nebr., other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Oct. 7, at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison, with the Rev. James D. Cobb officiating. Comfort in music was provided by Mrs. Richard Dueland as soloist, and Mrs. Roy Voggesser as organist. Serving as Honorary pallbearers were Reiny Mundt, Frank Jorgensen, R. M. Waston, Frank Crabb, E. A. Norelius, and R. L. Goodenow. Pallbearers were Walter Hass, Virgil Nelson, David M. Tan Creti, M.D., Ford Hawley, Rex Ruch, and W. F. Morrison. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Denison. The Maxwell Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

William Christian Wittmaack (1898 - 1980)
William Christian Wittmaack was born on Feb. 1, 1898 in Hayes Township, Ida County, Iowa, the son of August and Martha Henkel Wittmaack. He died on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1980 at Eventide Lutheran Home, Denison at the age of 82.Bill was raised in Crawford and Ida Counties. He received his education in the rural schools near his home. During the time of his confirmation he attended the Lutheran School at Grant Township.
On November 15, 1921, Bill was united in marriage to Christine Hadenfeld at Denison. They made their first home near Ricketts, later moving to Schleswig, where they made their home for a short time. After moving to Denison, Bill operated a dairy business for many years.
Bill was a long-time member of the Zion Lutheran Church where he took an active interest in church activities. He was baptized on June 5, 1898 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Stockholm Township and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church, Grant Township, on March 16, 1913.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by one brother and one grandchild.
Survivors include his wife, Christine of Denison; one son Melvin, of Snyder, Neb.; two daughters, Lucille, Mrs. Keith Waldron of Denison, and Delores, Mrs. Glen Meyer, of Westside. Also by eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one brother, Julius, of Ida Grove and two sisters, Anna, Mrs. Herman Zimmerman of Ida Grove and Mrs. Rose Christie, also of Ida Grove.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 27, 1980 at 10:30 a.m. at the Huebner Funeral Home, Denison. Burial was in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens. The Rev. Jack Heck of Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, officiated at the services. Pallbearers included Brent Waldron, Randy Waldron, Melvyn Wittmaack, Arlen Luetjens, Bruce Christie and Richard Frank. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

William F. Schultz (1891 - 1974)
William F. Schultz, 82, was born in Otter Creek Township, Crawford County, Iowa on May 26, 1891 the son of Fritz Schultz and Amelia (Lutz) Schultz. His education was received in the rural schools in Otter Creek Township.Staying at home, he assisted his father on the farm until his marriage on February 13, 1918 to Ida Pithan at the St. John's Lutheran Church, Stockholm Township with Rev. Otto Richter officiating.
After their marriage, they resided on a farm five miles south of Schleswig before moving to the Lehfeldt farm living there until they retired in 1931 and came to Denison. For a number of years Mr. Schultz drove a cream truck for Armour's and was employed by the Northwestern Railroad. He then worked at the Dodd Milling Company. Following that he busied himself with odd jobs and assisting with the upkeep of Washington Park.
They were the parents of three children: Mrs. Carl (Luella) Musfeldt, Aspinwall, Mrs. Ivan (Irene) Genzen, Manilla, and Mrs. James (Norma) Olry, Richmond, California.
Mr. Schultz died Monday, January 21, 1974, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison.
Besides his daughters, he is survived by his wife Ida, 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; two brothers, John Schultz of Denison and Marvin Schultz of Manning; and one sister, Mrs. Henry Friedrichsen of Schleswig.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 23, 1974, 2 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, with Rev. Robert Maschke officiating and with Mrs. Fred Rabe as the organist and James Zea sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". The congregation sang "Just As I Am". Pallbearers were Burdell Schultz, Clarence Bartlett, Wayne Stehr, Merlin Olbertz, George Pithan, Virgene Schultz and John Schultz. Interment was in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Stockholm Township.

Claude D. McMullen (1901 - 1976)
Funeral services were held for Claude D. McMullen, son of Reed and Lattie Lavin McMullen, Monday, May 10 at 2 p.m. Rev. Joel Wright officiated.He was born June 9, 1901 in Agricola, Kansas. His parents died when he was a young boy. Claude came to Manilla in 1917 and worked as a farm hand.
He was united in marriage with Alice Thompson on March 6, 1922. They made their home with her parents for three years and Claude farmed. They then farmed south of Manilla until moving to their present farm north of Manilla in 1941. Claude was actively engaged in farming at the time of his death.
He died on May 7, 1976 at Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, age 74 years, 10 months, and 28 days.
He was preceded in death by his only son, Robert on June 2, 1975, also by his parents, two sisters (Annie Gordon), (Cornela Nielsen) and four brothers (Jim, John, Wilbur and Dan).
He is survived by his wife Alice, his daughter-in-law, Ila McMullen of Arthur and the following grandchildren, Rick of Early, Marsha (Mrs. Dave Ehler of Holstein) John, Claudia, Lorrie and Reena, Arthur, Iowa, as well as nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Claude served as an Elder and as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Presbyterian Church of Manilla.
Pallbearers were Tony Schraer, Raymond Schuldt, Roland Huebner, Harvey Christensen, Floyd Grage and Harold Olson, Jr. Interment was in the Nishnabotna Cemetery. Odhe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Claus Henry Claussen (1904 - 1996)
Claus Henry Claussen was born January 5, 1904, the son of Claus John and Elizabeth Rusch Claussen. He died at Fargo, North Dakota on Wednesday, July 17, 1996 at the age of ninety-two.Claus was born near Schleswig, Iowa. At the age of two he moved with his family to Minnesota where they lived for three years before returning to Schleswig. He received his education in Schleswig, graduating from the Schleswig Community High School in 1921.
On May 10, 1931, Claus was united in marriage to Martha Meyer at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township, Charter Oak, Iowa. The couple settled in Schleswig, where Claus managed the Farmer's Lumber and Grain until retiring in 1966. After his retirement, Claus did small carpenter jobs in the Schleswig area, helped at the Crawford County Fair and was employed by the Schleswig Sausage Company.
Claus was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. He was the city assessor in Schleswig for twenty years, a volunteer fireman for many years, a member of Crawford County Conservation Board for fifteen years and Schleswig's designated rainfall record keeper. He loved to play cribbage and enjoyed the competition in cribbage tournaments. Claus also enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping and was an avid bowler.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Martha in 1980. Survivors include one son, Ronald and his wife, Marilyn of Spirit Lake; one daughter, Laurene Meeves and her husband, Roland of Manning, five grandchildren, Bruce, Keith, Rhonda, Edward and Steven Meeves; one great granddaughter, Tyler Ann; two sisters, Pauline Bielenberg and her husband, Ben of Denver, Colorado and Alberta Shevel and her husband, Don of Storm Lake.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 20,1996 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Patrick Sparling officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Rubie Kastner singing "How Great Thou Art" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and congregational hymns "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me" and "Abide With Me". Pallbearers were: Norman Neilsen, Richard Meyer, Lance Nelson, Dwayne Lee, Lowell Lee and Loren Lee. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.

Edna Agnes (Ehler) Johns (1902 - 1989)
Edna Agnes Johns, the daughter of John and Dora Suckstorf Ehler, was born on June 18, 1902, at Schleswig, Iowa and died at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 87 years.Edna grew up at Schleswig, and attended the Schleswig Community School, graduating with the class of 1920. After her education, Edna worked In the Behrmann's Store in Schleswig for several years.
On June 18, 1927, she and Lawrence Johns of Mapleton were united in marriage at Mapleton. This union was blessed with one daughter. They made their home in Schleswig until the early 1950's when they moved to Denison. While living in Denison, Edna worked for the Montgomery Ward and J. C. Penny Stores. They moved back to Schleswig ten years later and Lawrence died in 1979. Edna continued to make her home in Schleswig until August 1984, when she entered the Denison Care Center. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig where she sang in the Church Choir and was very active in the Dorcus Society of the Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lawrence, and two brothers. Survivors include: her daughter, Joan and her husband Dick Carl of Harlan; two grandsons, Curtis Carl and Bruce Carl and three great grandchildren; one sister, Clara Maas of Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison and one sister-in-law, Leona Ehler of Schleswig.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 13 (1989) at the United Church of Christ inSchleswig. Rev. Harold E. Schaible officiated at the services with interment in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. Mrs. Dorothy Jessen was organist and Mrs. Rubie Kastner was soloist. Selections were "Abide With Me" and "The Lord's Prayer". Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig.

Edna Alvina (Volkmann, Wiese) Stegemann (1902 - 1989)
Edna Alvina Stegmann, age 86, died Saturday, July 1, 1989, at the Samaritan South Hospital in Clinton, Iowa. She was born December 6, 1902 to Emil and Agnes (Petersen) Volkmann in Schleswig, Iowa.In 1924, she married Clarence Weise Sr. in Schleswig, Iowa. Clarence died in 1930. Edna remarried in 1935, to Frank Stegemann in Schleswig, Iowa. Frank died in 1967. Edna lived in the Schleswig area until 1981, when she moved to Camanche, Iowa to live near her daughter. Edna was a member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa and she enjoyed crocheting, working with crafts, and especially enjoyed her family.
Surviving Edna are her daughter; Dorothy, Mrs. Ronald Schneller of Camanche, Iowa; her daughter-in-law; Lois, Mrs. Fred (Weise) Jacobs of Schleswig, Iowa; four grandchildren; Marcia, Mrs. David Wenberg, Rhonda, Mrs. Kevin Meyermann, Gail, Mrs Richard Scheuring, and Brenda, Mrs. Simon Rasche; seven great grandchildren; Mark and Jeffery Wenberg; Sara, Drew and Shae Meyermann; and John and Stephany Scheuring; two sisters; Anna Volkmann of Schleswig, Iowa and Velma, Mrs. Adelbert Firnhaber of Fort Dodge, Iowa.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; one daughter. LaVonna in 1929 and one son, Clarence Weise Jr., in 1971.
Funeral services were held at 8:30 p.m., Monday, July 3, 1989 at the Camanche Chapel, Snell-Zorning Funeral Home in Camanche, Iowa and at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 5, 1989 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa with interment in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. Edna B. (Westcott) Kropf (1904 - 1976)
Funeral services for Mrs. Walter Kropf were held Dec. 15, at 2:00 at the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Carnarvon, with Reverend Donald W. Gibson officiating.Edna B., daughter of Hamilton and Julia Westcott was born April 1, 1904 in Deloit, she attended the Deloit schools, and was united in marriage with Walter Kropf on June 20, 1923.
They farmed in the Deloit area for several years until moving to Deloit in 1950, where they operated a grocery store. They later moved to Carnarvon in 1953 and operated a general store and cafe. Mrs. Kropf was a member of the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church of Carnarvon. Following a long illness she died at the Manning General Hospital on Sunday, Dec. 12, 1976 at the age of 72 years, 7 months and 12 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Betty and one sister.
She is survived by her husband, Walter, her children, one daughter, Donna, (Mrs. Raymond C. Friedrichsen) two sons, Lonnie of Breda, and Dennis of Savannah., Ga., 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Blair Richardson, Humbolt, two brothers, Les Westcott, of Moville, and Russell Westcott, of Haywarden, as well as by many nieces and nephews, and friends.
Interment was in the Deloit Cemetery. Pallbearers were George Cowlham, Edward Kropf, Louis Qsterlund, Lome North, Eugene Boeckman and Albert Ohden. The Farber and Otteman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Edna E. (Andresen) Holst (1909 - 1994)
Edna E. Holst was born September 26, 1909, the daughter of George and Johanna Rogge Andresen. She died at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting, Iowa on Wednesday, February 16, 1994 at the age of 84 years.Edna was born on a farm in Nishnabotna Township near Denison, Iowa. At a young age, she moved with her parents to a farm in East Boyer Township where she grew up and received her education in a rural school near her home. She was baptized a Christian and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
She helped her family on the farm until she was united in marriage to Henry Holst on September 6, 1930 in Carroll, Iowa. The couple settled in Denison and were blessed with the birth of eight children. The couple farmed various farms in the Kirkman, Cherokee, Quimby and Moorhead areas. In 1968 they retired in Moorhead where she helped Henry care for Preparation Park near there. In 1991, the couple settled in Soldier, Iowa. Edna was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who cared for her family with devotion. She was a naturalist and enjoyed flowers, gardening and birds.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, twin sons, two sisters, and one brother.
Survivors include her husband, Henry, one daughter, Arlene Eisermann of Cascade, Iowa; and four sons: Glen and his wife, Bonnie of Moville, Iowa; Raymond and his wife, Elaine of Soldier; Ronald and his wife, Carol of Dunlap and Kenneth and his wife, Phyllis of Oakland, Iowa. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hilda Kessel of Denison; Irene Littleton and her husband, Rex of Denison; two brothers, Walter Andresen of Pisgah, Iowa; and Wilbur "Flip" Andresen and his wife, Aleda of Columbia, Missouri.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 19, 1994 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa with Rev. Thomas R. Hagen officiating the service and graveside rites held at the Oakland Cemetery in Denison. Mary Lou Kratz provided the organ accompaniment for Conni and Sandy Anderson singing "Whispering Hope" and "How Great Thou Art". Pallbearers were: Michael Wayne Holst, Brian George Chrystal, Steve Rae Holst, Todd Wayne Holst, David Dean Holst and Terry Joe Holst. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Edna J. (Sonnichsen) Carnes (1908 - 2000)
Edna J. Sonnichsen Carnes was born on a farm in Hanover Township, Denison, Iowa, August 26, 1908, the daughter of Andreas and Emma Rahn Sonnichsen. She was received into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism October 3, 1908 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and confirmed in her Christian Faith there January 8,1926. Edna was raised on the farm and received her education in the local rural schools. Following her education she resided on the farm until 1940 when she moved to Denison where she was employed as a window dresser at the J. C. Penney Store from 1943 until 1948.In 1948 Edna moved to Los Angeles, California where she and a friend, Paula Lyons, owned and operated a snack bar for two years. She then was employed at Barker Brothers Home Furnishings in downtown Los Angeles in their Unit Control Office and later the drapery department. She returned to Denison in 1954 and was employed at Montgomery Wards until 1967 when she was forced to retire due to failing health. Following her retirement she was employed part time at Maxwell, now Pfannebecker, Funeral Home in Denison.
On December 22, 1979, Edna was united in marriage with Charles Carnes at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. They made their home in Sioux City and enjoyed traveling as much as possible. After Charles became ill they returned to Denison in 1986.
Charles died January 16,1987 and Edna continued to make her home in Denison where she enjoyed her hobbies of sewing, quilting, doing volunteer work, playing cards and spending time with her family. She was a lifelong active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Zion Ladies Aid, Zion Dorcas Society and former member, vice president and president of Zion Evening Guild. She also enjoyed her membership in the Crawford County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and her card clubs.
In October of 1999 Edna entered Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa and it was there her death occurred Thursday, November 23, 2000. At the time of her death she had attained the age of 92 years, 2 months and 27 days.
Including her parents and her husband, Edna was preceded in death by one brother, Walter H. F. Sonnichsen.
Those who remain to cherish her memory include one brother, Edward Sonnichsen and his wife, Esther of Denison, Iowa, one sister-in-law, DeLoris Sonnichsen of Denison, Iowa, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, three step-daughters, Fern Wieland of Smyrna, Tennessee, Mary Jane Morgan of Bettendorf, Iowa and Lois James of Sioux City, Iowa, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 27, 2000 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with the Rev. Kurt R. Kaiser and the Rev. David M. Sewing officiating. Music for the service included the congregation singing "How Great Thou Art", "Rock Of Ages, Cleft For Me" and " I Know That My Redeemer Lives" with Karen Kahl serving as organist. Graveside services and interment were held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, November 27, 2000 at Logan Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. A memorial has been established to Zion Lutheran Church or Eventide Lutheran Home. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Edna (Schultz) Kastner (1909 - 2000)
Edna Kastner was born August 13, 1909, the daughter of Fred and Louise Schultz. She died Wednesday, July 19, 2000 at the Eventide Nursing Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of ninety.Edna was born near Schleswig, Iowa, where she lived with her parents on the family farm. She was baptized in Christ on September 12, 1909 in the Lutheran faith and later confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hanover Township on April 13, 1924 by Rev. Runge. Edna received her education at the St. Paul's Lutheran School in Hanover Township.
On January 26, 1930, Edna was united in marriage to Lenard Kastner at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hanover Township. The couple made their home on the Kastner Homestead Farm in Otter Creek Township, where they farmed for twenty-three years before moving to Schleswig in 1953.
Edna was a devoted member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, the Women's Guild and Dorcas Society, where she held various offices. She was also a member of several card clubs. Edna was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. In her leisure time she enjoyed gardening, golfing and quilting.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lenard in 1978, one brother, Harold Schultz, three sisters, Gertude Schultz, Lydia Hollander and Lillie Johnson. Survivors include three daughters, Delores Nemitz of Kiron; Donna Lou Meeves and her husband, Gerald of Schleswig; Edna Mae Johannsen and her husband, Roger Lee of Arthur; ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Leona Aldag and her husband, Ted of Schleswig; one brother-in-law, Bayard Johnson of Denison, formerly of Kiron; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, July 22, 2000 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Bob Fritzmeier officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Dorothy Jessen provided the organ accompaniment for vocalists, Barb Buffum, Pam Gronau and Janet Lafrentz singing "The Lamb" and "I'm But a Stranger Here". Those serving as pallbearers were: Kevin Carstensen, Mark Gronemeyer, Tory Johannsen, Ritchie Meeves, David Strong, Scott Nemitz, Barry Nemitz, Bob Wittorf and Tom Skaggs. Edna K. (Berndt) Glawinski (1901 - 1989)
Edna K. Glawinski, the daughter of Charles and Margaret Berndt, was born on Aug. 25, 1901, on a farm five miles north of Earling. She died on April 6, 1989, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 87 years.Edna assisted in the family home after her education, and on Dec. 13, 1922, Edna and Leo Glawinski of Earling were united in marriage at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Dunlap. To this union two daughters were born. Together they farmed near Dow City until moving to a farm near Deloit, where they lived for 27 years. In 1963, they retired and moved into the Deloit community. In 1982, they moved to Denison where she resided until her death.
Edna was baptized in St. Josephs Catholic Church in Earling and was raised in the Catholic faith. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison.
Preceding Edna in death were her parents; her husband, Leo on Oct. 10, 1984, and two brothers, Chris and Peter Berndt. Survivors include her daughters: Margaret and her husband, Clarence Lane of Cedar Rapids and Nellie and her husband, Forest Condon; five grandchildren and two great-grandsons as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 10, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. Fr. Michael T. Larkin officiated. Interment was in the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery in Denison. Mrs. Jean Cornelius was organist for the church choir. Serving as pallbearers were Emmet Fitzpatrick, Vincent Hederman, Vincent Lengeling, Ben Siemer and Jack Mathies. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison.

IDA GROVE, Iowa - Edna Augusta Christina Krayenhagen, 85, of Ida Grove died Sunday, Sept. 11, 1994, at Horn Memorial Hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove with the Rev. Dennis Schultz and the Rev. Andrew Currao officiating. Burial will be in the Ida Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be after noon Tuesday, with the family present after 7 p.m., at the Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove.Mrs. Krayenhagen was born Jan. 16, 1909, in Deloit, the daughter of Detlef and Anna (Thomsen) Schroeder. She married Ernest Krayenhagen Feb. 19, 1930, in Battle Creek. The couple farmed in Woodbury and Ida Counties for many years until retiring and moving to Danbury. He died Sept. 17, 1980, and she moved to Ida Grove in 1983. Mrs. Krayenhagen was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Ladies Circle 4 of the church.
Survivors include three daughters, Darlene Gates and Virginia Hasbrouck and her husband, Morris, all of Ida Grove and Judy and her husband, Jim Mullin of Danbury; a son and his wife, LeRoy and Donna Krayenhagen of Moville; a daughter-in-law, Karen Krayenhagen of Keen, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Hilda Miller, Adelia Lutz and Hattie Jensen, all of Ida Grove and Helen Macklen of Pueblo, Colo.; and two sisters-in-law. Louise Schroeder of Denison and Olga Schroeder of Battle Creek.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Kenneth; five grandchildren, Theresa Hasbrouck, Cindy Krayenhagen, Elizabeth and Debra Mullin and Greg Krayenhagen; a great-grandson, Michael Braden, and four brothers, Carl, Henry, Paul and Walter Schroeder.

Edna Mae (Judy) Keesling (1902 - 1978)
Edna Mae Keesling was born on August 2, 1902 near Denison, Iowa, the daughter of John and Anna Krueger Judy. She died on Monday evening, March 6, 1978, at St. Luke's Hospital, Sioux City, Iowa, at the age of 75.As a youngster, Edna was raised on a family farm and received her education in the Stockholm Township schools. Later the family moved to a farm in Goodrich Township which became known as the home place. She was baptized and later confirmed into the Lutheran faith.
On November 21, 1921, Edna was united in marriage to Ernest Keesling at Deloit. Together they made their home on a farm in Milford Township. In 1944, they moved to Edna's home place in Goodrich Township, where they have continued to live.
In addition to her parents, Edna was preceded in death by one daughter Alice in 1952, one granddaughter Linda and one brother Lester.
Survivors include her husband Ernest of rural Denison, three sons, Earl of Deloit, Ervin and Wayne both of Denison and three daughters, Cleo, Mrs. Ed Peters of Deloit, Erna Mae, Mrs. Kenneth Aldag also of Deloit, and Frances, Mrs. David Rameden of Sioux City, Iowa.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 9, 1978, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa. The Rev. S.W. Holstein officiated at the services. Burial was in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery near Denison. Pallbearers included grandsons, Roger Peters, Stephen Keesling, Gary Keesling, Tom Keesling, Glen Aldag and Gene Aldag. Honorary pallbearers were Keith Keesling, Lee Keesling Mark Keesling, Kevin Keesling, Loren Keesling and Douglas Peters.

Edna Marie Rosine (Peters) Kelm (1908 - 2002)
Edna Marie Rosine Kelm was born April 26,1908, the daughter of William Henry and Rose Alvina Bahnsen Peters. She died Tuesday, February 26, 2002, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of ninety-three.Edna was baptized in Christ on July 26, 1908, and was confirmed April 4, 1922. She grew up on a farm near Charter Oak and received her education at St. John Lutheran School in Charter Oak.
On March 25, 1928, Edna was united in marriage to Arthur Kelm at St. John Lutheran Church Parsonage in Charter Oak. The couple made their home in Charter Oak, for a short time before moving to farm near Charter Oak. In 1966, the couple retired and moved to Denison.
She was a loving wife, sister, and aunt who loved her family very much. Her nieces and nephews will always have many fond memories of going out to the farm and playing, especially in the creek. In her spare time, she enjoyed cutting quilt blocks, tatting, and playing cards. Each year, she insisted on and organized the family picnic which was held at Union Park. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Dorcas, and a Charter Member of the Eventide Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Arthur in 1979; two brothers, William and LaVern; four sisters, Ardella Preul, Marie Peters, Sadie Hoffmeier and Martha Peters.
She is survived by one brother, Ralph Peters and his wife, Delia of Carroll, Iowa; three sisters-in-law: Edna Peters of Denison; Hilda Krueger of Denison; and Adela Strait of Denver, Colorado; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m, Saturday, March 2, 2002 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. Edna (Teut) Wodtke (1906 - 1985)
Edna Wodtke of Mapleton died Wednesday, March 20, (1985) at her home in Mapleton, after a long illness. She obtained the age of 78 years, two months and 25 days.She was the daughter of Herman and Anna (Wiedemann) Teut. She was born December 26, 1906 in Soldier Township, Crawford County, a life long resident of Charter Oak and Mapleton.
Edna married Marcus Wodtke August 3, 1933. They farmed until 1975 and moved to Mapleton. Mrs. Wodtke was a member of Immanual Lutheran Church, Immanual Ladies Aid, Lutheran Women's Missionary League and Charter member of the Lamplighters.
Services were held March 22 at the Immanuel Lutheran church, Soldier Township. Rev. E.E. Greene officating and music by Mrs. Nancy Bielenberg as organist. Interment was at the Immanual Lutheran Cemetery, Charter Oak.
Preceded in death was her parents, one daughter, Janice, one sister and four brothers. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Marlene) Bohlmann of Omaha and Mrs. Phillip (Jolene) Ketelsen of Mapleton; two sons, Verdell of Charter Oak and Delbert of Sioux City; two sisters, Mrs. August (Ruby) Waderich of Mapleton and Mrs. Gilbert (Erna) Nihsen of Charter Oak; six brothers, Melvin and Arlo, both of Schleswig, Ralph of Ute, Herbert of Mapleton, Raymond of Marion, Ohio and Everett of Omaha; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Myron Wodtke, Dale Engelke, LoWayne Nihsen, Bruce Wodtke, Gail Teut, Eldon Teut. The Walter Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Edna (Reimer) Breuer (1903 - 1991)
Edna Reimer Breuer was born at Schleswig, Iowa Sept. 23, 1903, the daughter of Edward and Bertha Struck Reimer. She died December 4, 1991 at the age of 88 years in San Antonio, Texas.The visitation was held at the Delcrest Chapel In San Antonio on Thursday Dec. 5. Graveside services were held Dec. 6, at the Fort Samk Houston National Cemetery with interment following. A memorial service was held at the Guthrie Byrant Chapel, First Presbyterian Church on the evening of December 6.
She attended Grade School and High School in Schleswig, Ia and graduated with the Class of 1921. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. After graduation she taught in Iowa, Idaho, Michigan, Wisconsin and Texas.
Edna married Herman Breuer in Manitowac, Wisconsin in June 1934. They lived there until 1945 when they moved to Texas. Herman Breuer died in 1958. Mrs. Bruer was a member of the Texas State Teachers Ass. and the Nat'l Education Ass. She taught in Sunshine Cottage for the deaf at Harlan Dale I. G. D.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She was active in Church work teaching Sunday School and taught a Bible Class for many years.
She is survived by a son James Breuer of San Antonio, and daughters Jean and husband Wm. K. Fuller of Seabrook, Texas. A daughter-in-law Sue, widow of Joseph Breuer. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren, one sister Malinda Reinking, and one niece Mrs. Milton Wassgren of Schleswig.

Edward C. Jepsen (1909 - 1997)
Edward C. Jepsen was born at Schleswig, Iowa, January 24, 1909, the son of Emil and Christina Danielsen Jepsen. Most of his youth was spent in Denison where he received his education being graduated from the Denison High School with the Class of 1928. He then attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago for two years. For two years after college he was employed at Citizens Power and Light in Council Bluffs, Iowa before returning to Denison to work for his father Emil Jepsen in his contracting and building business.On February 10, 1937, Edward was united in marriage with Irene Stover at the First Presbyterian Church in Denison. They made their home in Denison where their union was blessed with one daughter, Sandra. He was a self employed carpenter and contractor in Denison until 1948 when he founded Builders Lumber and Supply in Denison. He owned and operated the lumber yard until 1964 when he sold and retired to Harlingen, Texas. During their retirement years Edward and Irene enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to celebrate their 60th Wedding Anniversary this past February. In earlier years, while residing in Denison, Edward was a Denison City Councilman for many years, active in the Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Edward died Tuesday, April 8, 1997 at Harlingen, Texas. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 88 years, 2 months and 14 days.
Including his parents, Edward was preceded in death by two sisters, an infant, Meta Jepsen and Dora Jepsen, age 15.
Those who remain to cherish his memory include his loving wife of over 60 years, Irene Jepsen of Harlingen, Texas, one daughter, Sandra and husband, Richard Wilson of Suffolk, Virginia, one grandson, Randolph Wilson of Norfolk, Virginia, one granddaughter, Melanie and husband, Paul Cormier of Lititz, Pennsylvania, one brother, Irwin Jepsen and wife, Patricia of Carmichael, California, two sisters, Leona and husband, Milton Nelson of Denison, Iowa and Fredda and husband, John Presnell of Des Moines, Iowa, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial services were held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 16, 1997 at the Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa with the Rev. Ross Aalgaard officiating. Mary Jane Petersen served as organist. Interment was in the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Edward C. Knott (1907 - 1990)
Edward, son of George H. and Delia Giblin Knott, was born Jan. 8, 1907 in Iowa Township, Crawford County, Iowa. He attended rural schools and high school in Manilla, graduating with the Manilla High School Class of 1925.On Feb. 6, 1939, Ed was united in marriage with Helen Foxhoven. Nine children were born to this union: Shirley, Janet, Larry, Don, Carol, Betty, Connie, Mike and Theresa. They farmed west of Manilla until 1966 when Ed became a partner with his sister, Anna Mae, in the Reiff Hardware Store in Manilla. He retired in 1979.
Ed was in good health until February of 1989 when he suffered a stroke. He died suddenly and unexpectedly early Wednesday morning, Aug. 1, 1990 at his home in Manilla at the age of 83 years, six months and 24 days.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Francis and a sister, La Verne.
Survivors include his wife, Helen of Manilla; his children, Shirley and her husband, Jack Schaefer of Omaha; Janet and her husband, Don Holquist of Omaha; Larry Knott and his wife, Sheila of Omaha; Don Knott and his wife, Joan of South Sioux City, Neb.; Carol and her husband, Darrell Oliver of Omaha; Betty and her husband, Dick Schaefer of Omaha; Connie and her husband, Frank Urzendowski of Omaha; Mike Knott and his wife, Marilyn of Omaha; and Theresa and her husband, Dave Bueltel of San Diego, Calif.; 24 grandchildren; brothers and sisters, George H. Ed was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Manilla.
Prayer service was held Friday, Aug. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla. The rite of Christian burial was held Saturday, Aug. 4, 1990 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Manilla, Ia., with Reverend Father John Cain as celebrant. Music was by the Sacred Heart choir. Mass servers were Jason Knott and Scott Schaefer. Pallbearers were Randy Schaefer, Dan Holquist, Jeff Knott, Ron Schaefer, Steve Knott, Todd Oliver, Chad Oliver, Andy Urzendowski and Jay Knott. Honorary pallbearers were Kyle Knott, Troy Knott, Travis Knott and Tyler Knott. Interment was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Manilla.

Edward Friedrich Preul (1905 - 1999)
Edward Friedrich Preul was born January 17, 1905, the son of August and Franciso Peters Preul. He was born in Garfield Township, Ida County, Iowa. Edward was baptized in Christ on June 25, 1905 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Grant Township by Pastor A. Amstein.In 1916, he moved with his family to a farm near Charter Oak. Edward received his education at a rural school near his home and St. John's Lutheran School. Charter Oak. Edward was confirmed on April 3, 1921 at the St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak by Pastor A. Amstein. After receiving his education, he helped his parents on the farm.
On February 20, 1935, Edward was united in marriage to Alma Ketelsen. The couple made their home on various farms in the Charter Oak area and were blessed with the birth of three children. In 1961, they purchased the Theresa Jurgensen farm one mile south of Ricketts and lived there until their retirement in 1972 when they moved to Charter Oak. Edward was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak. He was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed socializing with his friends and playing cards with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Edward died on Tuesday, July 20, 1999 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of ninety-four.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Richard Alan Buschmann; eleven brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Alma of Charter Oak; two daughters, Norma Buschmann and her husband, Henry of Ute; Betty Schmidt and her husband, Dennis of Denison; one son, Robert Preul and his wife, Cheryl of Ridgecrest, California; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Florence Preul of Denison; many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were held at 2 P.M., Friday, July 23, 1999 at St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. L. C. Gebhardt officiated the service and grave side rites held at St. Paul's Cemetery in Charter Oak. Art Beeck provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "What a Friend We Have in Jesus", "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me" and Just as I Am, Without One Plea". Honorary pallbearers were Brandon Throckmorton, Jeremy Buschmann, Brady Buschmann, Christopher Preul, Randall Preul, Kallee Throckmorton, Brittany Throckmorton, Justin Buschmann. Desirae Weaver and Corinne Preul. Pallbearers were Randy Buschmann, Terry Buschmann, Brenda Schmidt, Russell Preul, Patty Throckmorton, Alan Buschmann, Brian Schmidt and Rodney Preul. The Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak was in charge of the arrangements.

Edward Richard Meeves (1903 - 1993)
Edward Richard Meeves was born on Nov. 13, 1909, the son of Henry and Mathilda Ohl Meeves. He died on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1993 at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Neb. at the age of 83 years.Edward was born on a farm in Boyer Township near Dunlap, la. and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by the Rev. Wiliam Frehse. He received his education in a rural school near his home and continued his education at the Dunlap High School.
On March 9, 1930, Edward was united in marriage to Velma Huelsman at St. John's Luthern Church in Charter Oak by Rev. A. Amstein. The couple settled on the farmstead in Boyer Township where they were blessed with the birth of three children.
Throughout his nearly 63 years in agriculture, Edward took deep pride in his farming heritage. He was active and productive in the region where he served as a member of the Dane Ridge Watershed and past director of Boyer No. 2 country school. Edward was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak and once served on the St. John finance board. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and who's affection will be remembered by those who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Marie Herrig; two brothers, Henry and Charlie; and one grandson, Rodney Nemitz.
Survivors include his wife, Velma of Dunlap; one daughter, Jeanette Nemitz and her husband Milfred of Denison; two sons, Gerald and his wife Donna of Schleswig and Paul and his wife Betty of Dunlap; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; two step great great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerry of Denison; one sister, Agnes Christiansen of Dunlap; and two aunts, Tena McCoid and Emma Ohl both of Dunlap; nephews, nieces, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 6, 1993 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Ia with Pastor L.C. Gebhardt and Vicar Lee Weander officiating the service and graveside rites at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison, la. Angela Gebhardt provided the organ accompaniment for the St. John's Ladies Choir singing "How Great Thou Art" and "I'm But a Stranger Here" and congregational hymn "Nearer, My God, to Thee." Honorary pallbearers were: Lucinda Strong, Rae Lynn Schnider, Cheryl Meeves, Felicia Wittorf, Larry Schnider, David Strong, Bob Wittorf, Deb Nemitz, Sue Nemitz and Pat Nemitz. Pallbearers were: Randal Nemitz, Ritchie Meeves, Rollin Nemitz, Bryce Meeves, Ross Nemitz, Bryan Meeves, Ryan Nemitz and Brent Meeves. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Walter A. Huebner and Sons' Funeral Home in Charter Oak.

Edward J. Evers (1901 - 2000)
Edward J. Evers was born on a farm in Goodrich Township, Crawford County, Iowa, April 3, 1901, the son of William F. and Joachine Rahn Evers. He was received into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and confirmed in his Christian Faith there April 16, 1916. He was raised on the farm and received his education in the rural and Zion Lutheran Schools. Following his schooling he helped on the farm.On February 9, 1927, Edward was united in marriage with Hertha Adele Maria Thomsen at the Zion Parsonage in Denison. Their union was blessed with five children, Darlene, Mardella, Norma, Derald and Ardell. They made their home on the farm in Goodrich Township where they farmed and raised cattle and hogs until their retirement. In 1975 the Evers' moved to Denison. Hertha died December 1, 1990, and Edward continued to reside at their home in Denison.
In earlier years, when health permitted, he enjoyed traveling, attending the Saturday sales at Denison Livestock Auction and trains. In addition of being an excellent cook he will be fondly remembered by his family as a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather and for his love of reminiscing about his life and events of his time.
Since August 9, 1999 Edward made his home at Denison Care Center in Denison and it was there his death occurred Monday, January 10, 2000. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 98 years, 9 months and 7 days. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
Including his parents and his wife, Hertha, Edward was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Mardella Ann Evers, one granddaughter, Sharon K. Evers, one brother, William C. Evers and one sister, Rose Denker.
Those who remain to cherish his memory include four children and their spouses, Darlene and Ralph Vogt of Charter Oak, Iowa, Norma and Alfred Schoenfeld of, Schleswig, Iowa, Derald and Pat Evers of Denison, and Ardell and Henry Ewoldt of Kiron, Iowa, 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews,"and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, January 13, 2000 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with the Rev. Kurt R. Kaiser officiating. Music for the service was provided by Larry Boeck singing "How Great Thou Art" and "On Eagles Wings" and the congregation singing "I'm But A Stranger Here". Karen Kahl served as organist. Edward's pallbearers were his grandchildren, Dean Vogt, Burdette Vogt, Terry Vogt, Kevin Vogt, Lydell Schoenfeld, Calise Thygesen, Leon Schoenfeld, Karen Evers, Mark Ewoldt and Dale Ewoldt. Interment was at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison, Iowa. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Edward Carl Fester (1909 - 1994)
Edward Carl Fester was born January 14, 1909, the son of Albert and Ida Rosburg Fester. He died at the Tri City Hospital in Oceanside, California on Tuesday, August 23, 1994 at the age of eighty-five years.Edward was born on a farm in Soldier Township, near Ute. He received his education as a young man, graduating from the Denison High School with the Class of 1926. He continued his education at the University of Iowa, graduating in 1930 from the Business College. While attending the University he was President of Kappa Sigma Fraternity in Iowa City. After completing his education, he returned to Denison and was employed at the Crawford County Court House.
On June 28, 1935, Edward was united in marriage to Donna Gaughan of Denison, at St. Rose of Lima Rectory in Denison. The couple made their home in Denison. In 1941 the couple moved to Glendale, California where Edward was employed at the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, until his retirement in 1971, subsequently moving to Vista, California in 1979, where they lived at the time of his death.
Edward was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Glendale, California, also the K.C. and Elks Club. He lived reading, working crosswords puzzles, and all sports, especially golf.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Donna of Vista, CA.; one son, Keith Fester and his wife, Louise of New Brighton, MN.; three grandsons, Bill of Milwaukee, WI.; John of Chicago, Illinois and Steve of New Brighton, MN. Other survivors include two brothers-in-law, Leo Gaughan and his wife, Anna of Denison; Joe Gaughan.of Vista, CA. and Stacia Schulte and her husband, Edward of Omaha, NE.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 27, 1994 at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. Fr. Andrew Hoffmann served as Celebrant with interment at the Oakland Cemetery in Denison. Jean Cornelius provided the organ accompaniment for the St. Rose of Lima Church Choir. Doug Jenson provided the guitar accompaniment for soloist, Nancy Jenson. Honorary Pallbearers were: Leo Gaughan, Reiney Mundt and Walter Jaacks. Pallbearers were: Edward Heffernan, Harold Heffernan, Harold Heffernan, Pat Heffernan, Donald Staley, Marvin Staley and Jack Staley.

Edward P. Jepsen Sr. (1902 - 1973)
Edward P. Jepsen Sr., 71, of Charter Oak, died December 25 at his home of an apparent heart attack. Services were at 10 a.m. December 28, 1973, in St. John's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Albert Prouty officiated. Burial was in Morgan Township Cemetery near Schleswig.Mr. Jepsen was born August 6, 1902 in Goodrich Township. He married Elsa Beeck of Schleswig September 24, 1924 in Denison. The couple farmed, and retired to Charter Oak in 1970.
Survivors include the widow; three sons, Edward Jr. and Fred of Charter Oak and Arnold of Schleswig; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Marjorie) Flink of Denison, Mrs. Donald (Anna) Hopp of Charter Oak. and Mrs. Marlow (Norma) Henningsen of Vail; 20 grandchildren; two brothers, Herman of Schleswig and William of Denison; two sisters, Mrs. Hans (Amanda) Pickel and Mrs. Ella Kuehnhold of Denison.
