Anna Marie (Hinricksen) Reichert (1920 - 2005)
Anna Marie Reichert was born June 19, 1920, the daughter of Peter and Fredia Ludeman Hinricksen. She died Thursday, March 17, 2005 at the Virginia Health and Reb Center in Waukesha, Wisconsin at the age of eighty-four.Anna was born in Denison, Iowa and received her education in the Goodrich No. 5 School in Crawford County. She continued her education at a Beauty School in Des Moines, Iowa.
On February 18, 1961, Anna was united in marriage to Henry Reichert in Denison, Iowa. They settled on a farm where Anna was a homemaker and operated her beauty shop on the farm. In 1978, the couple retired and moved to North 20th St. in Denison. Henry passed away in 1979 and Anna moved to a home on East Broadway. She moved to Schleswig for a couple of years before moving to Waukesha, Wisconsin to be closer to her son, Lee. In 1998, Anna moved back to Denison, Iowa and made her home in the Reed House for two years and then returned to Wisconsin.
Anna was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. She loved her grandson and her great-grandchildren and was very fond of her dog, Muffie. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting, all kinds of craft work and caring for her green plants.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Henry in August 1979 and her daughter, Jolene Jors in November 1985.
Survivors include one son, Lee Jors and his wife, Joan of Waukesha, Wisconsin; one grandson, John Henry Jors and his wife, Sandy of Colchester, Connecticut; two great-grandchildren, Haley and Tyler Jors; one sister, Ida Taylor of Missouri and one brother, Leo Hinricksen and his wife, Jackie of Arkansas; other relatives and friends.
Memorial services were held 10:30 AM., Thursday, March 24, 2005 at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Vicar Michael Stoerger officiated the services. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Anna Reimers (1922 - 1994)
Anna Reimers was born January 24, 1922, the daughter of Johann and Emma Rehmke Reimers. She died at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska on Wednesday, May 4, 1994 at the age of Seventy-two years.Anna was born on a farm north of Schleswig where she grew up and received her education in Otter Creek schools No. 3 and No. 4 near her home. After completing her education, she remained at home and helped her parents until their retirement to Schleswig in 1962.
She was a devoted christian and a life long and faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig where she was baptized in Christ May 28, 1922 and confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 2, 1939. In her leisure time, Anna enjoyed television and music and in younger years enjoyed children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, John in 1984 and one sister, Hilda Schau in 1983. Survivors include two sisters, Elsie Reimers of Schleswig, Lucille Ress and her husband, Emil of Manning; two nieces and six nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, May 7, 1994 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa with Rev. Donald Wagner officiating the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" and "Lord, Take My Hand and Lead Me." Pallbearers were: Freddie Jepsen, Ronald Schau, Darcy Reimers, Merlin Schau, Allen Reimers and Gary Schau. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.

Annette Jean Jaacks (1957 - 2002)
Annette Jean Jaacks, daughter of Robert and Norma Meggers Jaacks, was born January 4, 1957 at Denison, Iowa. She received her education at Worthington, Minnesota and graduated from Webster City High School in 1975. She was a longtime employee at the Webster City Veterinary Clinic. She had moved to her Stanhope acreage in 1985.Annette's survivors include her mother, Norma Jaacks of Webster City; sister and brother-in-law, Debra and Roxy Greenfield of Ankeny; brother and sister-in-law, James and Lisa Jaacks of St. Louis; nephew, Jacob Greenfield of Ames; great-nephew, Dane Ahrens of Ankeny; grandmother, Erma Meggers of Denison.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Jaacks in 1996 and grandparents. Annette was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Her life revolved around her love for animals and nature.
Memorial services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19, 2002 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Webster City with Rev. Travis Schmidt officiating the service. Lavonne Breitenkamp served as organist accompaniment for soloist Rev. Travis Schmidt singing, "The Lord's Prayer" and congregational hymns "How Great Thou Art" and "Just As I Am".

Arlene Ruth (Janssen) Block (1920 - 1990)
Arlene Ruth Block, the daughter of Henry and Emma Bauer Janssen, was born Aug. 28, 1920 in Denison, Iowa and died Sept. 28, 1990 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha, Neb., at the age of 70.Arlene grew up on the family farm in Washington Township near Buck Grove where she spent the formative years of her life and helped on the family farm. She received her education in a rural school near her home.
Feb. 3, 1939, Arlene was united in marriage to Paul Block at St. John's Lutheran Church in Buck Grove, by Pastor E.E. Greene. They made their home on a farm south of Denison and were blessed with the birth of three children. After Paul's death, she remained on the farm until 1985 when she moved to Denison.
Arlene was baptized on Oct. 3, 1920, and confirmed Jan. 15, 1936, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Zion's Ladies Aid Society and the Crawford County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Her strength and character were evidenced by her devotion to her Lord and the volunteer work she did at the Eventide Nursing Home.
Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, who died on April 18, 1981; her parents; and one brother, Vernon Janssen.
Survivors include her children: Irma Plagmann and her husband, Orrin of Harlan, Pauline Meeves and her husband, Byron of Denison, and Linda Werkmeister and her husband, Kenneth of Sac City; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild; a sister, Vera Stover and her husband, Harry of Denison; two sisters-in-law, Viola Janssen and Marion Block, both of Denison.
Funeral services were held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Pastor Kurt Kaiser and Pastor Philip Bloch officiated at the services with interment in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Mrs. Karen Kahl was organist and Henry Henningsen soloist. The solo selections were "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art." The congregational hymn was "Rock Of Ages." Serving as pallbearers were George Janssen, Curtis Janssen, Virtus Petersen, Kevin Stover, LeRoy Stover and Dennis Wellsandt. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Walter A. Huebner & Sons Funeral Service in Denison.

Arlo Paul Jahn (1929 - 2001)
Arlo Paul Jahn was born June 4, 1929, the son of Hugo and Hattie Mordhorst Jahn. He died Tuesday, March 13, 2001 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of seventy-one.Arlo was born in Manilla, Iowa and was baptized in Christ and later confirmed on March 20, 1944 at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manilla. He received his education in a rural school near his home.
On February 25, 1951, Arlo was united in marriage to Arlene Riessen at the Friedens Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig. Arlo entered the United States Army on March 1, 1951 and was stationed in Camp Carson, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
After receiving his honorable discharge on April 9, 1952, Arlo and Arlene made their home in Manning, where Arlo worked as a hired man for the Opperman Brothers. In 1954, the couple started farming on their own in Hayes Township until 1962 when they had a farm sale. Arlo worked at Farmland Foods from September 1962 until retiring on October 24, 1988. On April 29, 1963, they moved to their new home in Denison.
Arlo was a past member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla. He was an active member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, where he served on the church council in his earlier years. He was also a member of the Schuetzen Verein of Westside. Arlo enjoyed doing yard work and gardening. In his leisure time, he loved to go fishing, hunting and camping with his family and friends. He also loved spending time at his son, Kevin's acreage.
Arlo was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Terry and Brian, two brothers, Roy and Wilbur Jahn and one sister, Lois Joens.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene of Denison; one son, Kevin Jahn of Denison; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 15, 2001 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Douglas Searles officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Dorothy Jessen provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "My Faith Looks Up to Thee", "How Great Thou Art" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". Those serving as pallbearers were: Donald Littleton, Gorden Petersen, Roger Bukacek, Glen Miller, Ed Point and Ran Jahn. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Arthur August Bohlmann (1926 - 2003)
Arthur August Bohlmann was born March 3, 1926, the son of Otto and Clara Fester Bohlmann. He died Thursday, December 4, 2003 at his home near Ricketts, Iowa at the age of seventy-seven.Art was born on a farm west of Ricketts in Soldier Township. He was baptized in Christ, April 4, 1926, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township by Rev. Gemmingen. At the age of one Art moved with his family to a farm in Hanover Township, where he passed away. He received his education at St. Paul's Lutheran School near his home. On March 17, 1940, Art was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church by Rev. H. A. Wagner. After completing his education, he farmed with his father on the family farm.
On July 7, 1945, Art was united in marriage to Evelyn Klinker at St. Paul's Lutheran Church by Rev. H. A. Wagner. The couple settled on the family farm and were blessed with the birth of two daughters. His love for the land never ceased. After semi-retirement in 1991 Art took over the family garden and continued to live on the farm where he lived for seventy-six years.
Art was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and served the church with various offices as secretary, elder, financial secretary and trustee. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who enjoyed his family very much. He truly enjoyed the outdoors, farming, gardening and spent many hours in his shop, always repairing and trying to make things work better.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister-in-law, Lorraine Gierstorf and two nieces in infancy.
Survivors include his loving wife, Evelyn of fifty-eight years; two daughters, Karen Kahl and her husband, Darold of Denison; Karla Kluver and her husband, John of Sergeant Bluff; four grandchildren, Gary Kahl and his wife, Kathy of Denison; Shelly Freese and her husband, Bradley of Council Bluffs; Tami Kshywonis and her husband, Lee of Omaha; Troy Kluver of Sioux City; six great-grandchildren, Coltin and Justin Kahl; Tyler and Megan Freese; Jacob and Jace Kshywonis; one brother, Herbert Bohlmann and his wife, Leona of Ricketts; two brothers-in-law, Elmer Gierstorf and his wife, Marge of Charter Oak; Donald Klinker and his wife, Pat of Leon, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 7, 2003 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hanover Township in Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. Eugene Ernst officiated the service and grave side rites held at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Hanover Township in Charter Oak, Iowa. Organist Shirley Stull provided the organ accompaniment for the congregational hymns, "I Know that My Redeemer Lives" and "Silent Night! Holy Night!". The soloist was Eldon Hardekopf and he sang "How Great Thou Art" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak. Those serving as pallbearers were: Dean Bohlmann, Lee Kshywonis, Dennis Klinker, Bradley Freese, Troy Kluver, Aaron Gress, Jerry Stull, Gary Kahl and Ladean Gierstorf.

Audrey A. (Hollander) Raisch (1940 - 2005)
Audrey A. Raisch was born October 24, 1940, the daughter of Emmett and Laura Stockfleth Hollander. She died Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of sixty-four.Audrey was born in Ida Grove, Iowa and lived with her parents on a farm near Schleswig. She received her education in a rural school near her home and graduated from the Schleswig High School with the class of 1959.
On September 17, 1965, Audrey was united in marriage to Donald Raisch at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. The couple made their home in the country near Schleswig and were blessed with the birth of two daughters. In 1970, they moved to a new home that they built in Schleswig.
Audrey loved her family, and especially loved spoiling her grandchildren. She enjoyed making afghans, crocheting, knitting and sewing and traveling, including her trips to Alaska; Hawaii; Arizona; California; Branson, Missouri and Nashville, Tennessee. Audrey enjoyed spending her leisure time golfing, playing bridge, socializing, dancing and attending country concerts. She loved her work at Wal-mart, greeting and cashiering, especially giving attention to children who were fascinated by all of her buttons on her Wal-mart vest. She will be greatly missed by her family, her many friends and her Wal-mart family.
She was preceded in death by her father: Emmett Hollander, three uncles: Martin Jepsen, Ray Baker, Fred Jess and his wife, Viola and one cousin: Janice Peterson.
Survivors include her husband, Donald of Schleswig; two daughters, Deborah Snelling and her husband, Craig of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Michelle Raisch of Denison; two grandchildren, Kristin and Eric Snelling of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; her mother, Laura Hollander of Denison; one sister-in-law, Lillian Soga and her husband, Matsuo of Japan; one aunt, Clara Baker of Boulder City, Nevada; and four cousins, Richard Jepsen and his wife, Mary of Boulder City, Nevada; Carol Domino and her husband, Burdette of Sac City; Jerrie Wigg and her husband, Glenn; and Julie Teut and her husband, Lowell, all of Schleswig; other relatives and many friends.

Lizzie Anna (Bendixen ) Wiedemann (1888 - 1973)
Funeral services for Mrs. Lizzie Wiedemann were held Friday morning, July 20, 1973, at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig with the Rev. Henry Held officiating. Mrs. John Evers was the organist. Mrs. Harlan Buffum and Mrs. Don Meyer sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Heaven is My Home".Lizzie Anna Wiedemann, daughter of Wm. Bendixen and his wife Irene (Mundt) was born August 23, 1888 at Tipton Sweet Water, Wyoming and passed away at the Eventide Home in Denison July 18, 1973, following a three-month illness. She attained the age of 84 years, 10 months and 25 days.
When a small child, she moved with her parents to the Schleswig community where she has since resided. She was united in marriage to John W. Wiedemann on March 29, 1911 and to this union five daughters were born. She was a long and faithful member of the United Church of Christ and of the Women's Fellowship.
She was preceded in death by her husband John W. Wiedemann, who died in 1966, a daughter, Lavina, one sister Hilda Burk and two brothers Emil and Harvey.
Surviving are her daughters, Elvera Brus, Denison; Milda Schiernbeck, Kiron; Ardene Deyo, Denver, Colorado; and LaJune Obrecht, Schleswig; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ella Albertsen, Mapleton; Josie Jorgensen, Spirit Lake; Wanda Bendixen, Mapleton and Viola Henriksen, Cushing; one brother Mag Bendixen of Des Moines; many other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were: Verdell Brus, Keith Obrecht, Dale Schiernbeck, Howard Henningsen, John Knudsen and Martin Magill. Interment was in Morgan Cemetery.

Paul Cradit Weatherby (1888 - 1973)
Paul Cradit Weatherby died on Jan. 30, 1973 at the age of 84 years, five months and one day. He was a native son of Crawford County, Iowa, having been born to David and Harriet Cradit Weatherby on Aug. 29, 1888 in the same house where he had made his home until being hospitalized in November of 1972.Mr. Weatherby's schooling began in a new one room school, District No. 8 of Washington Township. He attended school in Des Moines and then the Denison Normal School. He continued his education at Morningside Academy where he played football under John Griffin. He was a tackle at the time Morningside's competition included such schools as Notre Dame and Iowa University.
"Doc" Weatherby captained his team to victories and went on to Iowa State at Ames where his coach was the late Clyde Williams. In track he held a Drake Relays record for the hammer throw for over 30 years. While at Morningside he was a member of the Otho Fraternity and organized the "M" Club for athletes. He also met his future bride there.
In 1916 he was married to Louise McDonald at Sioux City. They came back to Crawford County and the family farm in Washington Township. Here they made their home for 56 years.
It was a life of service to family and acquaintances that filled these years. The Weatherbys were charter members of the Crawford County Farm Bureau. Paul also was a charter member of Kiwanis, served on the early county conservation boards, was a 50-year member of Sylvan Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, White Shrine, Mt. Zion Commandry, Royal Arch Masons and the M Club at Morningside.
Paul continued the herd of Polled Shorthorn cattle begun by his father. In the early years this breed was the Polled Durham. It was a Weatherby bull that was chosen grand champion at the Chicago International Livestock Exposition. He was a conservator of the land so it would be productive for the grandchildren. In the 1930s with the help of the old CCC he had terraces built and began farming on the contour.
In later years his time was devoted to chauffeuring grandchildren who were the fifth generation on the land. He lived to see the sixth generation take their first steps on the farm.
He leaves, not to mourn but to carry on, his son-in-law and daughter, Lawrence and Mary Margaret Drake and their family. The grandchildren and great grandchildren are Steven and Pamela Drake and son Kelly Joe, Sally Drake, Daniel and Susan

Theodore August Ernst (1893 - 1983)
Theodore August Ernst was born on April 24, 1893, near Schleswig, in Ida County, Iowa, the son of Henry and Minnie Sable Ernst. He died on Thursday morning, December 29, 1983, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 90.Ted was raised on a farm near Schleswig. He received his formal education in the rural schools near his home. As an infant, Ted was baptized and later during the years of his education, he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grant Township.
On February 14, 1918, Ted was united in marriage to Hilda Jurgensen at her family home south of Schleswig. Together they farmed in the Schleswig area until their retirement in 1948 when they moved into Schleswig.
Ted was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as treasurer of the congregation for many years. After the closing of Trinity, he became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by his wife, one son Vernon, one daughter Carol, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Survivors include, one son Merle of Schleswig, two daughters, Phyllis, Mrs. John H. Gosch of Schleswig and Audrey, Mrs. James Munson of Monroe, Louisiana, and a daughter-in-law, Darlene Ernst of Denison and a son-in-law, Louis Schmadeke of Schleswig. Also surviving are twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, two brothers, Walter Ernst of Schleswig, and Ray C. Ernst of Ida Grove and two sisters, Florence, Mrs. Ben Rabe of Ida Grove and Mrs. Hertha Else of Schleswig.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 31, 1983, at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Burial was in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at Grant Township. The Rev. Richard Nelson officiated at the services. Mrs. Leroy Hight served as organist with Immanuel Lutheran Ladies Choir. Hymns for the services were "Abide With Me" and "How Great Thou Art." Grandsons serving as pallbearers were Keith Schmadeke, Allen Ernst, Tim Schmadeke, Jerry Ernst, Danny Munson, Marc Gosch, Steven Ernst, Scott Ernst, Ross Ernst and Harlan Schmadeke.

Theresa Margaret Rehmke (1893 - 1980)
Theresa Margaret Rehmke was born on November 20, 1893, at Hayes Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas and Anna Reincke Rehmke. She died on Friday, April 18, 1980, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, Iowa, at the age of 86.Theresa was raised on a family farm. She received her formal education in the rural schools near her home. Theresa was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
Theresa made her home with her brother on the farm in Hayes Township. After his death, she moved to Schleswig, where she has since continued to make her home. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
In addition to her parents, Theresa was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 21, 1980, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig, Iowa. Burial was in the Grant Township Cemetery near Schleswig. The Rev. Theodore Letzring officiated at the services. Serving as pallbearers were John Reimers, Wilbur Reimers, LeRoy Rehmke, Lowell Rehmke, Gaylord Boeck and Wayne Schroeder.

Titus Claus Gloede (1889 - 1978)
Titus Claus Gloede was born on February 16, 1889, near Ricketts, Iowa, the son of Claus and Anna Holst Gloede. He died on Sunday morning, November 26, 1978, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, Iowa, at the age of 89. Titus was raised on a family homestead farm near Ricketts. He was baptized and later in 1904 confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Soldier Township.On February 12, 1913, Titus was united in marriage to Lillian Schmidt at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He farmed from 1913 to 1945 when he retired and moved to Ricketts. In 1975 he became a resident of the Denison Care Center. Titus was a very active member of his church, serving in many areas including the Lutheran School Board.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Lillian in 1967, two sons, Wilbur and Alvin, and three grandsons.
Survivors include his children, Hildegard, Mrs. Carl Bohlmann of Charter Oak, Victor Gloede of Sutherland, Iowa, Elvera, Mrs. Jack Carlyle of Denison, Miss Evelyn Gloede of Dunlap, Miss Frances Gloede of Beverly Hills, California, Darlene, Mrs. Wallace Saunders Jr. of Charter Oak and Una Bell, Mrs. Harold Frehse of Denison. Also by fourteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 28, 1978, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Ricketts, Iowa. Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Soldier Township. The Rev. R. Winterowd officiated at the services. Pallbearers included DuWayne Bohlmann, Stephen Carlyle, Allen Gloede, Randall Gloede, Craig Frehse and Rick Saunders. Honorary pallbearers included Keith Carlyle, Jeff Frehse, Ronald Gloede, Roger Gloede and Randall Saunders.

Vernetta Marie (Schmidt) Paulsen (1912 - 2001)
Vernetta Marie Paulsen was born April 26, 1912, the daughter of Albert and Hulda Peters Schmidt. She died Monday, June 18, 2001 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of eighty-nine.Vernetta was born in Goodrich Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ on June 2, 1912 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa and later confirmed there on April 10, 1927 by Rev. William Frese. Vernetta grew up on the family farm in Goodrich Township and received her education in a rural school near her home.
On September 21, 1932, Vernetta was united in marriage to Ferdinand Paulsen at the home of her parents by Rev. William Frese. Following their marriage they made their home on a farm in Goodrich Township and were blessed with the birth of two children. The couple spent their life together working side by side on the farm helping neighbors, friends and family. After Ferdinand's death in 1962, Vernetta moved to Denison and worked at Eventide, until her retirement in 1976.
Vernetta was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison. The love and affection Vernetta had for her Lord was evidenced in her daily life. Her love, understanding and concern for people, and always giving of herself to help others was her mission in life. Her leisure time was occupied with sewing dolls, making quilts, collecting antiques, refinishing furniture and enjoying her family.
Vernetta was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother, Ronald Schmidt. Survivors include one son, Ronald Paulsen and his wife, Faylene of Charter Oak; one daughter, Roseann Gehlsen and her husband, Reynold of Denison; six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Lavern Zage of Denison; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 21, 2001 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. David Loeschen officiated the services and grave side rites held at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison, Iowa. Dianne Fume provided the organ accompaniment for the congregational hymn "How Great Thou Art". Ryan Paulsen played guitar as he sang "What A Friend We Have in Jesus". Those serving as pallbearers were: Cosette McKinney, Ryan Paulsen, Roni Knief, Shawn Gehlsen, Brett Gehlsen, and Troy Gehlsen.

Vernon J. Ernst (1919 - 1965)
Funeral services for Vernon J. Ernst were held Monday morning, October 25 at 10:30 at the Trinity Lutheran Church Grant Township with Rev. F. Kemfert of Galva officiating. Music was by Mrs Walter Streck, organist, hymns sung by the girl's choir were "Asleep In Jesus" and "In the Hour of Trial."Vernon was born in Crawford County to Theodore and Hilda nee Jurgensen Ernst on May 31, 1919. He was baptized in June of the same year at Trinity Lutheran Church Grant Twp. Being confirmed on March 25, 1934, he received his elementary schooling in Parochial and rural schools. He entered military service in 1942 and was discharged in January of 1946. Part of which was spent in the South Pacific.
On September 29, 1946 he was married to Darlene Roennau at the Lutheran Church in Denison. To this union were born six children. They farmed five miles west of Schleswig their entire married life. He held various offices of his Church, Trinity Lutheran Grant twp., including President of Voters Assembly, elder and at present president of the Fellowship Club. At present he served as Quartermaster of the V. F. W. He was also a member of the American Legion.
Five weeks ago he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and was taken to the Crawford County Memorial Hospital at Denison. Later being transferred to the St. Josephs hospital in Sioux City. Three weeks ago he underwent surgery, after regaining consciousness for a day he went into a coma from which he never recovered. During these five weeks his wife was with him at the hospital. The doctors did all that could possibly be done for him. He passed away on Friday morning, October 22 (1965) at 10:20.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Darlene, five children, Steven, a student in college at Maryville, Missouri, Sheryl, Pamela, Scott and Ross at home. His parents, Mr and Mrs Theodore Ernst, a brother, Merle of Schleswig, two sisters, Phyllis, Mrs John Gosch of Schleswig and Audrey, Mrs James Munson from Cherokee, his parents in law, Mr and Mrs Asmus Roennau of Denison besides many relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Vicky Lynne in 1949 and a sister, Carol, Mrs Louis Schmadeke in 1964.
Pallbearers were members of the V. F. W. and the American Legion. Interment was at Grant twp. cemetery. Sinn's Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

ARTHUR, Iowa - Vernon S. Christiansen, 81, of Arthur died Monday, July 13, 1998, at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Christensen-Ciha Funeral Home in Ida Grove, with Dr. Herb Johnson officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Morgan Township Cemetery, rural Schleswig, Iowa, with military rites conducted by the American Legion McNamara-Moore Post 61. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.Mr. Christiansen was born April 27, 1917, in Vail, Iowa, the son of Fred and Selma (Ericksen) Christiansen. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He married Martha Wallace on March 5, 1946, in Reno, Nev. The couple farmed near Arthur for many years, retiring in 1995.
Survivors include his wife; and three sisters, Mabel Wunschel of Arthur, Loween Lansink of Odebolt, Iowa, and Viola Namanny of Ida Grove. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Victor Frederick Richard Spack (1916 - 1965)
Manning - Funeral services for Victor Frederick Richard Spack, 48, were held at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning on Friday afternoon, Aug. 6. Interment in the Manning Cemetery. Rev. Edward Heinicke was in charge of the service. Nephews were pallbearers.Son of Michael and Emily Deiber Spack, he was born at Buck Grove on Dec. 12, 1916. He attended rural schools and was married on June 21, 1936 to Arlene Ruhde of Manning at Maryville, Mo. They farmed in Crawford County for 20 years, and for the past 4 1/2 years operated a tavern in Manning.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Mr. Spack died early Wednesday morning Aug. 4, (1965) at Manning General Hospital, following a long illness.
He was preceded in death by his father and a daughter in infancy. He is survived by his wife; three children: Kenneth Michael, Omaha; Linda Lou and Mark Allen at home; his mother, who lives in Aspinwall; two brothers, Elmer, Boyer, and Clifford, Aspinwall, and a sister, Mrs. Ed (Esther) Jochimsen, Charter Oak.

Mina Marie Johannsen (1889 - 1986)
Mina Marie Johannsen, daughter of Johanns and Johanna Neimoth Johannsen, was born near Ricketts, June 14, 1889, and died Jan. 6, 1976, at Eventide, at the age of 86 years, 6 months and 22 days.Miss Johannsen attended school in the Ricketts area. She has lived all of her life in the Ricketts and Denison area. For the past three years she has been a resident of Eventide.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Carl, Paul, Johannes, and an infant brother, three sisters, Sena, Lena, and Emma.
Survivors include two sisters, Mahala (Mrs. August Petersen) of Denison and Mrs. Bertha Stone of Cedar Rapids, nieces and nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2;00 p.m., Friday, Jan. 9, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, with Reverend Robert Maschke officiating. Pallbearers were Herbert Johannsen, John J. Peters, Jr., Val Jean Johannsen, Irvin Schultz, Robert Kropf, and Roland Petersen. Interment was made in Morgan Township Cemetery, Schleswig, with Huebner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Minna Helene (Rolfs) Sievers (1899 - 2003)
Minna Helene Sievers was born December 15, 1899, the daughter of Peter and Anna Lucht Rolfs. She died Sunday, November 23, 2003 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of one hundred three.Minna was born in Holstein, Germany, where she grew up as a child. She was baptized and later in 1914 confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Holstein, Germany. In 1925, Minna immigrated to America settling in Omaha, Nebraska, where she did domestic work.
On June 15, 1929, Minna was united in marriage to Claus Sievers in Omaha, Nebraska, where the couple made their home for several years before moving to the Dr. Sievers farm near Kiron. They later purchased a farm near Kiron. After Claus's death in 1967 Minna moved to Denison, where she made her home. In 1990, she moved to the Eventide Lutheran Home.
Minna was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison for seventy years. She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially chocolate chip cookies for family and friends and usually would send some home with you when visiting her. She was an elaborate housekeeper, and was always ready for visitors. In her earlier years, Minna enjoyed playing cards and was a member of several card clubs.
Minna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother and one sister. Survivors include a niece, Edith LeMoind of Iowa Falls; three nephews, H.W. (Ben) Sievers of Ralston, Nebraska; William V. Sievers of Tigard, Oregon; Waultradt Thanheiser of Seattle, Washington; also several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 26, 2003 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. David Sewing officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Jenny Goslar singing "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me" and congregational hymn "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound". Pallbearers were: Dennis Huebner, Lorenz Schultz, Robert Janett and Milfred Nemitz. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Minnie Bertha (Hitz) Lueck (1893 - 1978)
Minnie Bertha Lueck was born Jan. 4, 1893, the daughter of Rheinhardt and Fredaricka Hitz in Germany. She died April 13, 1978 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, at the age of 85.Minnie came to the United States as an infant. Her family made their first home in Shelby. Later they moved to Dunlap and in 1909 they moved to Denison.
On Dec. 30, 1914 Minnie was united in marriage to Fred Lueck at Denison. Together they made their home on a farm in Washington Township for 36 years. They lived in Buck Grove for one year before retiring to Denison in 1960. For the past six years she has made her home with her daughter in Denison.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Fred in 1968 and one brother.
Survivors include one daughter Mrs. Frieda Lingle of Denison and one son Paul, also of Denison and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held April 17 at 1:30 p.m. at the Huebner Funeral Home, Denison. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery. The Rev. Victor 0. Hoyer officiated at the services. Pallbearers included August Hast Jr., Vernon Hast, Ralph Hoffmeier, Donald Murray, Virgil Dozark and Melvin Hoffmeier. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Minnie (Miller) Janssen (abt 1891 - 1974)
Minnie Janssen, nee Miller, passed away at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, on November 9, 1974, at the age of 83 years, 6 months and 13 days. She was the daughter of the late Hans Miller and his wife Dorothea nee Miller.She married Herman Janssen in Crawford County on February 15, 1911. The couple farmed until Mr. Janssen's death in 1949. Mrs. Janssen moved to Schleswig proper in 1951.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Herbert Clausen, (Sylvia), Mrs. Andrew Clausen (Berniece) and Mrs. Frank Iversen (Ethel) of Charter Oak; one son, Allen Janssen; one sister, Letty Hansen; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 12, 1974, at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig with Rev. R.J. Ratzlaff officiating. Mrs. John Evers was organist and Mrs. Ernie Grell and Mrs. G.M. Johnson sang "Whispering Hope" and "Rock of Ages". Casketbearers were Mark Janssen, Leon Clausen, Larry Clausen, Ronald Clausen, Delmar Clausen, Verdell Clausen and Darrell Iversen. Interment was in the Morgan Cemetery.

Minnie Marie Albertina (Hollander) Klotz (1890 - 1984)
Minnie Marie Albertina Klotz, 93, of Mapleton, died Thursday, February 16, 1984 in Maple Heights Nursing Home after a long illness.Services were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Matthew Lutheran Church at Mapleton. Pastor Philip Ritter officiated. Burial was in Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig under the direction of the Walter Funeral Home of Mapleton.
Mrs. Klotz, the former Minnie M. A. Hollander, was born November 17, 1890, to Andrew Peter and Albertina (Stegeman) Hollander in Crawford County, near Schleswig.
She married Henry Klotz March 15, 1911, at Schleswig. He died July 4, 1952. She came to Mapleton in 1966. Mrs. Klotz entered the nursing home August 4, 1968, the day it opened. She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and Lois Circle of the Lutheran Church Women.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two daughters, two sisters and one brother.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lorraine Spahn of Mapleton, and Mrs. Milo (Marion) Jensen of Denver, Colorado; two sons, Eldo of Portland, Oregon, and Andrew of Mapleton; 11 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Mick Feauto, Larry Clausen, Bradley Klotz, Dick Frank, Dr. Lonnie Kennel, and Clifton Klotz.

Minnie L. (Stahl) Wiese (1892 - 1985)
Minnie L. Wiese was born at Bonningheim, Germany, January 6, 1892, the daughter of Guttlob and Wilhelmi Ott Stahl. She was raised in Germany where she received her formal education. At the age of nineteen, Minnie came to the United States, living with relatives in New York City for six months before moving to Manilla.In 1913, Minnie was married to Gus Wiese near Manilla and they made their home on a farm there. Gus died in December of 1938, and Minnie continued to farm for a year before moving to Denison in 1940. She was employed for many years for several Denison families in their homes. Following her retirement, Minnie continued to reside in Denison until September of 1984, when she moved to the Carroll Health Center at Carroll. Minnie suffered a broken hip March 24, and had been hospitalized since that time at the St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll where she died Friday evening, April 12 (1985).
At the time of her death she had attained the age of 93 years, three months, and six days. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries in Denison, and a member of the Crawford County Republican Women.
Minnie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Helen Crampton, and two brothers.
She is survived by two daughters, Luella Malone of Los Gatos, Calif., and Dorothy, Mrs. Alvin Kutschinski of Charter Oak, two sons, Walter Wiese of Macon, Ga., and Robert Wiese of Omaha, Ne., twenty grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, one brother, Ernst Stahl of Germany, and three sisters, Pauline Vogel of Sac City, and Emma Siglocho and Sophie Trefz both of Germany. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews residing both in Germany and the United States.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 15, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, with the Rev. Donald D. Fraker officiating. Music for the service was provided by the congregation singing, "I Fall Asleep In" Jesus' Wounds" and "I'm But A Stranger Here" with Mrs. Fred Rabe serving as organist. Honorary bearers were Richard Boeck, Norman Christensen, and Allen Nepper. Pallbearers included Eldon Argotsinger, Ed Drilling, Michael Mundt, Rudolph Pingel, Russell Hyde, and Larry Carstensen. Interment was in the Nishnabotna Cemetery at Manilla. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Minnie (Steckelberg) Miller (1883 - 1985)
Minnie, daughter of Charles and Margaret Nieman Steckelberg, was born May 13, 1883, near Manilla. She attended Manilla schools.On March 5, 1901, she was united in marriage with Herman W. Miller at her home near Manilla. They began farming south of Manilla and later purchased a farm one and a half miles west of Manilla, where they were living at the time of Herman's death on June 15, 1930. Minnie continued to manage the farm business until her sons graduated from school and could operate the farm. In 1942 she moved to Manilla and continued to be active in church and community projects.
She was an active 4-H leader for many years. When the Manilla Manor Nursing Home was opened for residents in April 1976, she moved there as the first Manilla resident. She was a long-time active member of the Presbyterian Church. Minnie had been in declining health for several years, and died on Friday, September 13, 1985, at the Manilla Manor, Manilla, at the age of 102 years and 4 months.
Minnie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one son, Arno Miller on June 23, 1983; two grandsons, Wayne and Marlin Vennink; one great-great granddaughter, Jennifer Vennink; four sisters, Emma Miller, Ida Witt, Mathilde Minor and Elsie Manford; and two brothers, Henry and Frank Steckelberg; and a son-in-law, Louis Vennink.
She is survived by three children: Selma, Mrs. Louis Vennink, Manning; Lucille, Mrs. Melroy Carstens, Manilla; Alvin Miller, Manilla; 15 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, Ruth Miller, Manilla, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services were held on Monday, September 16, 1985 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Manilla, with Pastor Frank Christ officiating. Organist was Trudy Saunders and vocalist was Larry Genzen. Interment was in the Nishnabotna Cemetery, Manilla. Pallbearers were Randal Spies, Jon Vennink, Kurt Pfannkuch, Cory Wegner, Steven Jorgensen and Derek Justice. Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla was in charge of arrangements.

Minnie Marie (Walde) Moeller (1897 - 1993)
Minnie Marie Moeller nee Walde passed away Feb. 22, 1993 at Eventide having reached the age of 95 years, 11 months and 10 days. Death was attributed to old age.Minnie was born Mar. 4, 1897 at Schleswig, Holstein, Germany. She came with her family to Denison in 1907 and remained in the Denison area until her death. She was baptized in Germany as an infant and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison on April 5, 1914.
On Feb. 9, 1921 she was united in marriage to Adolf Moeller at the Lutheran parsonage with Rev. Frese officiating. This union was blessed with one daughter, Alyce Pollock. After their wedding they farmed west of Denison until moving to Denison in 1953. Her husband passed away Nov. 19, 1969. Minnie was a housewife and homemaker throughout her life. After her husband's death she moved to Eventide in November of 1979.
Surviving Minnie are her daughter and son-in-law, Alyce and Tony Pollock of Forest Grove, Oregon. Grandson and wives: Mike and Shirley Pollock of Anchorage, Alaska and Mark and Carolee Pollock of Wasilla, Alaska; three great grandchildren: Joe and Becky Pollock of Anchorage, and Justin Arnold of Salt Lake City, Utah. Also surviving are three sisters: Hattie Wulf of Denison; Rose and Wallace Larsen of Kiron, Ia. and Irene and Howard Smith of Carroll, Ia. and numerous nieces and nephews. Her parents, her husband and three brothers preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 1993, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Ia. with Pastor Kurt Kaiser and Pastor Philip E. Bloch officiating the service and graveside rites held at the Oakland Cemetery in Denison, Ia. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for Henry Henningsen singing "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Just as I Am" and congregational hymn "Savior, Again to Thy Dear Name We Raise". Pallbearers were Raymond Walde, Leonard Walde, Gaylord Moeller, Gilbert Moeller, Erwin Moeller and Paul Jahn. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Walter A. Huebner and Sons' Funeral Home in Denison.

Minnie Margaretha (Boyens) Schwitzer (1899 - 1988)
Minnie Margaretha Schwitzer, the daughter of Hans and Mary Johannsen Boyens, was born on Jan. 14, 1899 in Goodrich Township, Crawford County, Ia. She died Thursday morning, Oct. 13, 1988, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, at the age of 89 years, eight months and 29 days.Minnie spent her early years on her family's farm in Goodrich Township and attended rural schools, finishing her education at Zion Lutheran School in Denison. She later moved with the family to a farm in Hanover Township. She was baptized on June 4, 1899 at Soldier Township and was confirmed on March 16, 1913 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and a past member of the Zion Ladies Aid.
Minnie was united in marriage to Rudolph Schwitzer on March 30, 1921 by Reverend Freese. They farmed west of Denison until 1947 when they moved to Denison. After moving to town, Minnie spent many years as a cook in the Revers Cafe in Denison; a job that she greatly enjoyed. She and Rudolph entered Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison in August of 1988.
In addition to her parents; Minnie was preceded in death by three brothers: Edward, Herman and Bill and one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Boyens.
Survivors include her husband Rudolph of Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison; one son, Eldor Schwitzer and his wife, Elverda of Denison; one daughter, Grace and her husband, Vern Cooper of El Paso, Texas; four grandchildren: Keith Schwitzer of Boulder, Colo., Gary Cooper of El Paso, Texas, Steve Cooper and Terry Cooper, both of Phoenix, Ariz., five greatgrandchildren ; sisters-in-law: Minnie Boyens, Elsie Boyens, and Leona Schwitzer, as well as a number of nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m..Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Pastor Kurt Kaiser officiated at the services. Interment was in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Mrs. Darold Kahl was organist for Henry Henningsen as soloist, and congregational singing. Selections were "How Great Thou Art," "Heaven Is My Home" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives." Honorary pallbearers were Keith Schwitzer, Steve Cooper, Terry Cooper and LaVerne Christiansen. Serving as pallbearers were Edmund Petersen, Melvin Boyens, Delmar J. Ellis, Jack Simpson, Jay Ellis and Gary Cooper. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison.

Mollie (Petersen, Christiansen) Kundson (1896 - 1981)
Mollie Christiansen Kundson was born on May 11, 1896 in Hanover Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the daughter of Jurgen and Adeline Lorenzen Petersen. She died March 27, 1981 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, at the age of 84. Mollie was raised on a family farm in Hanover Township. She received her formal education in St. Paul's Lutheran School.On June 7, 1916 Mollie was united in marriage to Henry L. Christiansen. They made their home on a farm near the Denison community. Later they moved to Dension. After Mr. Christiansen's death in 1941, Mollie remained in Denison where she raised her family.
In 1956, Mollie was united in marriage to Merle Knudson. During her years of retirement she has continued to make Denison her home. Mollie was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She has been a long time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
In addition to her parents and her first husband Henry, Mollie was preceded in death by one grandson, seven brothers and one sister.
Survivors include, her children, Helen, Mrs. Elmore Bryan of Bolingbrook, Ill., Adeline, Mrs. Keto Ettleman of Dow City, Lucille, Mrs. Forrest Brown of Ankeny, and Charles Christiansen of Denison. Also by eleven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, one brother August Petersen of Denison and one sister, Mrs. Marie Klinker of Colorado Springs, Colo.
Funeral services were held March 30, at 2:00 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. The Rev. Jack Heck officiated at the services. Serving as pallbearers were William Ettleman, Robert Ettleman, Charles Ettleman, John Brown, Neil Wilken and Kenneth Christiansen. Nellie (Sciford) Bohlmann (1898 - 1996)
Nellie Bohlmann was born January 7, 1898, the daughter of Charles and Wilhemina Brandenburg Sciford. She died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa on Wednesday, March 6, 1996 at the age of ninety-eight.Nellie grew up on a farm near Charter Oak, receiving her education in a rural school near her home. She was baptized in Christ and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Hanover Township, near Charter Oak. As a young child she helped her family on the farm after school and in the summer time.
On February 25, 1914, Nellie was united in marriage to Herman E. Bohlmann at the home of his parents. The couple settled on his parents farm and remained there for twenty-seven years and were blessed with the birth of six children.
In 1941, the family purchased a farm near the home farm, and settled there. In 1964, they retired to Schleswig. Nellie was a loving wife and mother, who's Christian devotion was focused on her family. She helped her family learn their religion lessons and cared for her family with diligence.
In 1977, she and Herman celebrated their sixty-third wedding anniversary. She was a past member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and their Ladies Aid in Hanover Township. She was a devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, their ladies aid and the Schleswig Senior Citizens.
Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Herman in 1977, one son, Ernest in 1984, a grandson, Michael in 1985 and one great-granddaughter, Sandy Ramer in 1991.
Survivors include three daughters: Lillie Petersen and her husband, Emil of Schleswig; Caroline Lux of Omaha, Nebraska; Donna Karas and her husband, Frank of Raytown, Missouri; two sons, Edgar of Omaha; Donald and his wife, Marlene also of Omaha; eighteen grandchildren, forty-three great-grandchildren, thirty great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 9, 1996 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser officiated the service and grave side rites held at the St. Paul's Lutheran cemetery, Hanover Township, Charter Oak. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "I'm But a Stranger Here", "How Great Thou Art" and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives". Pallbearers were: Patrick Hanrahan, Michael Bohlmann, David Bohlmann, Mark Bohlmann, Jeff Karas and Paul Lux. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig was in charge of arrangements.

Olga (Sievers, Glau) Herren (1899 - 1993)
Olga Herren was born on November 12, 1899, the daughter of Herman and Johanna Linde Sievers. She died at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison on Saturday, May 8, 1993 at the age of ninety-three years.Olga was born near Schleswig Holstein, Germany and later came to America with her parents in 1903. She and her family settled on a farm near Manning, Iowa where she grew up and attended a country school. After Olga completed her schooling she began helping her father on the farm.
She was united in marriage to Ben Glau on January 23, 1917 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. The couple settled on a farm three miles west of Denison and were blessed with the birth of two sons.
In January of 1946, Ben and Olga moved to Denison. In July of 1948, her husband, Ben died and Olga remained living in Denison. Olga was united in marriage to Louie Heeren on April 17, 1949 in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple continued to live in Denison until Louie died on March 14, 1977.
On March 19, 1991, Olga moved into Eventide Lutheran Home where she remained until the time of her death. Olga loved to cook, sew and do quilting. Olga had a wonderful sense of humor and was a loving and caring mother who worked hard and would help anyone who needed her. She was dedicated to her Lord and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Ben Glau and Louie Heeren; one son Leslie on October 13, 1988; three sisters; and one brother. She is survived by one son Marvin Glau and his wife Abbie of Desert Hot Springs, California; one brother Herb Sievers of Omaha, Nebraska; two sisters, Adela Popken of Canyon City, Colorado and Anna Glau of Mountain Home, Arkansas. Also four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 10, 1993 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa. Pastor Kurt Kaiser officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Denison, Iowa. Olga M. (Pieper) Canada (1896 - 1992)
Olga M. Canada was born on May 3, 1896, the daughter of Henry and Abel Rohlis Pieper. She died on Friday, Jan. 17, 1992 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, at the age of 95 years.Olga was born in Minden where she grew up and received her education, graduating from the Minden High School with the class of 1914. After having completed her education, Olga taught the sixth grade for eleven years before her appointment as director of the Kiron school.
On Nov. 26, 1924, Olga and Ira M. Canada were united in marriage at the Congregational Church in Council Bluffs. The couple settled in Kiron where she worked with Ira in the drugstore they owned and operated. The couple retired in 1950, a career that lasted 26 years and saw many changes in the fashion and needs of the community.
After retiring, the couple joined the United Church of Christ in Schleswig where she was active in the church Women's Guild, and the Dorcas Society and enjoyed making quilts and playing cards with the other members of the group. Other memberships include: the VFW Auxiliary, Eastern Star Lodge, Hospital Auxiliary, and the Senior Citizens. Additionally, she enjoyed China painting, attending Sunday services and reading every evening. In 1963, Merle passed away and Olga and her sister, Sophia enjoyed traveling together, visiting Hawaii, Germany, London and France.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Merle; and her sister, Sophia and one brother Rudolph.
Survivors include a niece Helen Pieper Hulle; four grand nieces; 14 great grand nieces and nephews; two second cousins, Mary Ann Higley Rosser and Rosella Storjohn; and one step-great great niece Dianne Podrazo.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 20, 1992 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. Pastor James Schatz officiated the service and graveside rites held at the Minden Cemetery in Minden. Dorothy Jessen provided the organ accompaniment for soloist David Rosser singing "How Great Thou Art" and "Just a Closer Walk With Thee." Pallbearers we're William J. Petersen, John P. McClellan, Herbert Wellendorf, Michael J. Goodin, Charles Evers and Milroy Groth. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Walter A. Huebner and Sons' Funeral Home in Schleswig.

Olive (Leytham) Lyman (1889 - 1983)
Olive Lyman was born on June 29, 1889 in Shelby County, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Mae Lyon Leytham. She died Feb. 16, 1983 at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, at the age of 93. Olive was raised on a farm southeast of Dunlap in Shelby County. She received her formal education in the rural schools near her home.On Jan. 1, 1908, Olive was united in marriage to Newton Pearl Lyman at her parents home in Dunlap. Together they made their first home on a farm near Dunlap in Harrison County. In 1921 they moved to Monona County and later in 1927 moved to Crawford County. They made their home in Deloit, for ten years before moving to Denison. After her husband's death in 1957, Olive continued to make Denison her home. Since December of 1981, she has been a resident of Eventide Lutheran Home due to failing health.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Olive was preceded in death by one son Dale in 1961 and seven brothers and sisters.
Survivors include, three sons, Dean Lyman of Newell, Merrill Lyman of Denison and Howard Lyman of Des Moines. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren, two brothers, Richard Leytham of Tennessee and Kenneth Leytham of Council Bluffs and one sister, Mrs. Opal Evans, also of Council Bluffs.
Funeral services were held Feb. 19 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Denison. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Dunlap. The Rev. Dr. Scott Woodworth officiated at the services. Mrs. Dorothy Norman serviced as organist with Henry Henningsen soloist. Hymns for the services were How Great Thou Art and In The Garden. Pallbearers were grandsons, Gerald Lyman, Sheldon Lyman, Garlyn Lyman, Gailen Lyman, Michael Lyman and Mitch Lyman. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Oliver C. Boeck (1899 - 1990)
Oliver C. "Ike" Boeck was born on a farm in East Boyer Township, Crawford County, Ia., Aug. 12, 1899, the son of Herman and Minnie Blunk Boeck. In 1906, he was baptized at Manilla and confirmed April 5, 1936, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll. He was raised on the family farm and received his formal education in the local rural schools.On April 1, 1920, Ike was united in marriage with Else Petersen at Denison. The early years of their marriage were spent in Astor, Manning, Denison and Carroll where Ike was in the auto repair business. In 1936, the Boecks returned to Denison and Ike managed the Denison Auto Company until 1956, when he purchased the business with his son, Richard. Following his retirement in 1968, the Boecks continued to reside in Denison spending the winter months in Texas until 1975. In the spring of 1988 they moved to the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison where he had since resided.
Ike died early Saturday morning, April 7,1990, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 90 years, seven months and 25 days. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
Ike was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Ralph, Alfred "Jack", and Benton Boeck.
Survivors include his wife of seventy years, Else Boeck of Eventide in Denison; three children and their spouses: Shirley and Arlen Germeroth of Denison, Richard and Joleen Boeck of Denison and Jane and James Niday of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one sister, Helen and her husband Orville "Sam" Kracht of Denison; one brother, Robert Boeck of Manilla; two sisters-in-law, Adela Petersen of Denison and Ramona Boeck of Manilla; also many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with the Rev. Kurt R. Kaiser officiating. Music for the service was provided by Larry Boeck singing "Nearer My God To Thee" and the congregation singing "How Great Thou Art" and "I'm But A Stranger Here." Karen Kahl served as organist. Committal services and entombment of his cremains was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison.

Otto H. Keller (1894 - 1985)
Otto H. Keller was born on May 3, 1894, in Crawford County, the son of Franz and Hermina Kusch Keller. He died on Saturday, March 16, 1985, at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison at the age of 90.Otto spent his formative years on his family's farm in Monona County north of Ute. He received his formal education in the rural schools near his home. In June of 1918, Otto entered the United States Army in Onawa, Iowa. Following his tour of duty, he was discharged at Camp Dodge, Iowa, in June of 1919.
On February 25, 1920, Otto was united in marriage to the former Ella Holtorf at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Together they farmed for twelve years in Monona and Crawford counties. In 1932 they moved to Schleswig where Otto was employed for sixteen years as policeman. He later was employed many years by the town of Schleswig.
In addition to his parents, Otto was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, Hugo and Albert, one sister, Mamie Holtorf, and one grandson, Richard.
Survivors include his wife Ella of Schleswig, two daughters, Marcella, Mrs. Elmer Namanny, and LaRue, Mrs. Francis Quandt, both of Schleswig, six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother Edward Keller of Somerset, California, and two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Riley of Ute, and Mrs. Elsie Creese of Charter Oak, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 19, 1985, at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. Military honors and graveside rites were provided by the Schleswig American Legion and V.F.W. The Rev. Richard Nelson and Vicar Dr. John R. Stephenson officiated at the services . The Immanuel Ladies Choir with Mrs. Marlene Hight as organist provided music for the services. Hymns for the services included "Rock of Ages" by the choir and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" sung by the congregation. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Jerry Namanny, Ronald Quandt, Richard Quandt, Russell Quandt, Tom Murphy and Jim Murphy.

Paul Conrad Henry Lutz (1892 - 1987)
Paul Conrad Henry Lutz was born in Crawford County, near Deloit, Ia., on Sept. 16, 1892, the son of Carl Lutz and Marie Lutz Lutz. He died on Nov, 16,1987 at the Denison Care Center in Denison, after a short illness. He attained the age of 95 years.In 1894 he moved with his family to a farm in Sac County, returning to the Deloit area in 1904. He received his education at the Zion Lutheran School in Denison, graduating from the 8th grade. He worked on the family farm after his schooling.
On July 2, 1919 he and Hulda Hantelmann were united in marriage at Sherrill. To this union sevens sons were born. They settled on the family farm near Denison which they called home until Hulda died on June 9, 1975. Paul continued to make his home there until he entered the Denison Care Center on Aug. 11, 1986. Paul was baptized and on April 12, 1908 was confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. He was one of the oldest voting members of the church.
In addition to his parents and wife Hulda, Paul was preceded in death by one son, Clarence, one grandson, one sister, Margaret Schlung and three brothers: Pastor Henry Lutz, Edward Lutz and Harry Lutz.
Survivors include his sons: Arthur Lutz and his wife, Dorothy of Denison, Alfred Lutz and his wife, Elta of Omaha, Neb., Donald Lutz and his wife, Sylvia of Denison, Marion Lutz of Denison, Vernon Lutz and his wife, Janice of Kiron, and Ervin Lutz and his wife, Barbara of Denison; fourteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, August Lutz and his wife, Emma of Webster, S.D., and one sister-in-law, Adela Lutz of Ida Grove.
Funeral services were held at 11 a. m., Thursday, Nov. 19 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Reverend Bernhard Lutz, Reverend James Ristvedt and Reverend Donald Winter officiated. Mrs. Darold Kahl served as organist for Mrs. Jan Stanley as soloist, and congregational singing. Selections were "I Know That My Redeemer Lives," "On Eagles Wings" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus."

Paul R. Molony (1896 - 1993)
Paul R. Molony was born at Coon Grove, Ia., Nov. 6, 1896, the son of Michael and Bridgett Ayers Molony. He was raised in Crawford County where he received his education. During World War I, from July of 1918 until March of 1919, Paul served his country in the United States Army in France.Upon his discharge he returned to Denison where in 1922 he was united in marriage with Agnes Julia Henry. Their union was blessed with one son, Clement. They made their home on the farm south of Denison where during the 1930's in conjunction with farming, Paul drove an oil truck for the Texaco Company. Paul and Agnes lived on the farm until moving to an apartment in Denison in 1983. Agnes died Aug. 28, 1985 and Paul continued to reside at home in Denison. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison and a Charter and Seventy-Five Year Member of the American Legion Post 8, Denison.
Paul died Tuesday evening, March 2, 1993, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 97 years, three months and 26 days.
Including his parents and his wife, Paul was preceded in death by five brothers, Joseph in infancy and John, Will, Dan and Mike Molony, and three sisters, Sadie Molony in infancy, Margaret Champion and Kate Smith.
Those left to cherish his memory include one son and his wife, Clement J. and Martha Molony of Las Vegas, Nev.; one grandson, Mike Molony of Las Vegas, Nev.; one granddaughter and her husband, Mary and Bill Rodda of Prairie Village, Kan.; and one great granddaughter, Kelli Rodda of Prairie Village, Kan. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
A Legion of Mary Rosary was held at 4 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 8 p.m., Thursday, March 4 at the Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison at 11 a.m., Friday, March 5 with Father Andrew W. Hoffmann as celebrant. Music for the Mass was provided by the St. Rose of Lima adult choir singing, "On Eagles Wings," "Be Not Afraid," and "Sing to the Mountain." Jean Cornelius served as organist. Pallbearers included Tom Jones, Randy Hass, David Collins, Robert Collins, Wayne Collins and Dale Collins. Graveside military honors were provided by the American Legion Post 8, Denison. Interment was in the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery in Denison. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Paul Voss (1898 - 1994)
Paul Voss was born on a farm in Goodrich Township, Crawford County, Iowa, January 15, 1898, the son of Ernest and Rosa Rath Voss. He was received into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison when he was an infant and confirmed in his Christian faith there in his teenage years. He was raised on the family farm and received his formal education in the rural schools in Goodrich Township. Following his schooling he was employed by area farmers.On December 9, 1923, Paul was united in marriage with Amanda Jensen by the Rev. William Frese at the Zion Lutheran parsonage in Denison. They farmed in Goodrich Township until 1945 when they moved to Schleswig and operated a cafe for a number of years. Later Paul was employed at the bowling alley in Schleswig and following his retirement he helped area farmers.
Amanda entered Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison in 1985 and Paul remained at home in Schleswig making almost daily trips to visit her. In 1989 he moved to Eventide Senior Housing in Denison where he had since resided.
Although having no children of their own, Paul greatly enjoyed being around children and sharing his friendship and knowledge with them. In his spare time he enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, socializing with family and friends and card playing. Paul and Amanda shared over seventy years of marriage before her death occurred April 20th of this year.
Paul died July 8, 1994 at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 96 years, 5 months and 23 days. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig.
Including his parents and his wife, Amanda, Paul was preceded in death by sixteen brothers and sisters, Emma Atzen, Bertha Atzen, Anna Atzen, Chris Voss, John Voss, Fred Voss, Rose Jurgensen, Ernest Voss, Martin Voss, Ella Namanny, Emil Voss, Minnie Paulsen, Roy Voss, Edward Voss, Edna Voss and Lillie Boeck.
Those who remain to cherish his memory include three sisters-in-law, Angeline Voss of Sibley, Iowa, Lucinda Hunt of Seal Beach, California and Leona Jensen of Storm Lake, Iowa, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Marlene Hight served as organist. Honorary bearers were Paul's nieces, Burnette Hough, Maxine Krueger, Ruby Johannsen, Mabel Luth, Darlene Baichtal, Junabell Maak, Edeline Jorgensen, Lorraine Buss, Shirlene Johnson, Marlene Chris-tensen, Bonnie Ewoldt, and Vicki Bruner. Casket bearers were his nepnews, Erwin Voss, Gilbert Voss, Virgil Boeck, Gaylord Boeck, Lewis Namanny, Robert Namanny and Donald Namanny. Interment was in the Morgan Township Cemetery at Schleswig. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.

Paul Wingrove (1897 - 1978)
Paul Wingrove was bom Oct. 10, 1897 near Arion, Iowa, the son of Nelson and Dora Thomsen Wingrove. He died Febr. 7, 1978 at his home in Dow City at the age of 80. Paul was raised on a farm and received his education in the Washington Township Schools.On Sept. 27, 1954 he was united in marriage to Josie Wight at Denison. Together they farmed all their working careers in the Dow City area. Paul was baptized on April 28, 1957 at the R.L.D.S. Church in Denison. He retired and moved to Dow City in 1962 where he continued to live until his death.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons Robert and Archie. Also by two brothers John and Earl.
Survivors include his wife Josie of Dow City, one son Jay of Charter Oak, two daughters, Edith, Mrs. Herman Schneider of Denison and Marilyn, Mrs. William Crane of Oakland, 15 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, four step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren. Also by a daughter-in-law Edna Mae Wingrove, aunt Anna Thomsen and a cousin Elton Wingrove, and three brothers Herbert, Linn and Nelson all of Dow City and four sisters, Mrs. Calista Christensen of Denison, Bertha, Mrs. Carl McDonald of Dow City, Mrs. Dorothy Noah of Neosho, Mo. and Ella, Mrs. Leonard Spahn of Pea Ridge, Ark.
Funeral services were held Febr. 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the R.L.D.S. Church, Dow City. Burial was in the Dow City Cemetery. Darrell Argotsinger and Fanchon Quick officiated at the services. Peter J. Heeren (1891 - 1982)
Peter J. Heeren was born on Dec. 21,1891 near Charter Oak, Iowa, the son of Jurgen and Helen Carbaugh Heeren. He died Nov. 6, 1982 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital Denison, at the age of 90 years.Peter moved with his family at an early age to a farm near Denison. He attended the rural schools near his home where he received his formal education.
Peter was united in marriage to Annie Boyels on March 1, 1915. Together, they made their home on various farms in Crawford County. In addition to farming, Peter did blacksmith work for himself and his neighbors. He was later employed with Fink Welding in Deloit for many years. After his wife's death in 1944, Peter moved to Deloit. In 1977, he entered the Eventide Lutheran Home due to failing health.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Peter was preceded in death by two sons, Alfred and Francis, one brother, two half-brothers and five grandchildren.
Survivors include, two sons, George of Denison, and Hubert of Tyrone, Okla. three daughters, Mrs. Mildred Simons of Arion, Mrs. Viola Landgraf of Denison and Mrs. Gladys Luft of Jefferson. Also surviving are fifteen grandchildren, two step grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.

Peter Johann Jepsen (1896 - 1977)
Peter Johann "P.J." Jepsen, son of John and Marie Jepsen, was born March 5, 1896, in Goodrich Township, Crawford County, Iowa. He died Monday, August 22, 1977, at Eventide Lutheran Home, Denison, Iowa, at the age of 81.Peter was raised on the family farm and received his formal education in the rural school near his home. He was confirmed in the Christian faith March 1912 with Pastor Wetzeler of the United Church of Christ, Schleswig, Iowa, where he continued his membership.
On December 20, 1916, he was united in marriage to Frieda Stender at Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa. Three children were born to this union: Eva, Genevieve, and Raymond. Peter and his wife Frieda began their life together on the home place. Later they purchased the farm from Peter's father. In 1953, they retired and moved to Denison.
Peter served as secretary of the Goodrich Township School Board for 31 years, as a director of the Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. of Schleswig for 20 years, as a director of the Farmer Grain and Lumber Co. for 20 years, and on the Crawford County Fair Board for 18 years. He was also involved in raising the initial $100,000 to build the Crawford County Memorial Hospital.
Peter was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Frieda in October 1968, and one sister Anna.
Survivors include two daughters, Eva, Mrs. Irvin Bielenberg of Charter Oak, and Genevieve, Mrs. Leroy Broderson of Denison; and one son, Raymond of Denison. Also by 14 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 24, 1977, at 2:00 p. m. at the Huebner Funeral Chapel in Denison. Music was provided by Malinda Evers, Jeanette Grell and Evelyn Johnson. Hymns of praise: "Rock of Ages" and "Nearer My God to Thee". Burial was in Morgan Cemetery. Pastor Fred Moore of the United Church of Christ, Schleswig, officiated. Serving as pallbearers were grandsons: Merle Bielenberg, Richard Bielenberg, Virgil Bielenberg, Ronald Bielenberg, Lyle Bielenberg, Darrell Broderson and Lonnie Jepsen.

Peter U. Pickel (1898 - 1998)
Peter U. Pickel was born April 5, 1898, the son of Peter and Anna Grauman Pickel. He died Thursday, April 30, 1998 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of one-hundred.Peter was born in Frorup, Germany, where he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He received his education at a school in Frorup and Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Peter served in the German Calvary during World War 1. He immigrated to the United States in 1923, and worked for his cousin Herman Klinker as a farm hand.
On September 14, 1929, Peter was united in marriage to Jane Maas at the Friedens Evangelical Reformed Parsonage in Schleswig, Iowa. The couple lived and settled in the Schleswig area, where he was a carpenter and farmed until 1960, and moving to Schleswig in 1961. After his retirement from farming, he was a caretaker of the Morgan Cemetery for twelve years, and a caretaker of Immanuel Lutheran Church for seventeen years. In 1963, Peter traveled to Germany, to surprise his family with a visit.
Peter became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig in 1936 and a citizen of the United States in 1940. He was a very loving husband, caring father and grandfather who thought of his in-laws, as his own children. Peter enjoyed riding his bicycle, even at age ninety-three. He also loved to play his harmonica and violin and in his leisure time, Peter enjoyed carpentry work, fishing and playing cards.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one great-grandson, five brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Jane of Schleswig; three sons, Bernhard Pickel and his wife, Betty of Mapleton; Richard Pickel and his wife, Lois of Schleswig; Wilbert Pickel and his wife, Betty of Sac City; four daughters, Evelyn Stamm and her husband, Eugene of Omaha, Rubie Kastner and her husband, Rawlo of Schleswig; Beverly Rix and her husband, Allen of Manning; Dorothy Rix and her husband, Larry of Des Moines; nineteen grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; one sister-in-law, Anna Pickel of Jarphung-Weding, Germany; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, May 4, 1998 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Cemetery, Schleswig. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "Glorious Things of You Are Spoken", "Jesus, Lover of My Soul" and "Jesus, Still Lead On". Taped music of "How Great Thou Art" sung by Rubie Kastner was played. Honorary pallbearers were: Lashelle Carlson, Debbie Strohm, Tammi Johnson, Regina Klahn, Rachel Pickel, Traci Ewoldt, Donna Shaw, Diane Pickel Lori Kragel, Sara Vote and Terri Rosener. Pallbearers were: Dennis Stamm, Ross Kastner, David Stamm, Doug Pickel, Glenn Pickel, Rick Pickel, Scott Rix and Todd Rix. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Robert G. Baer (1896 - 1996)
Robert G. Baer was born at Gladstone, Manitoba, Canada on November 23, 1896 to Richard and Alice Baer. The family moved back to Iowa in 1899 to the vicinity of Coon Grove just south of Denison.He was married to Anna C. Miles on December 19, 1917 and five children were born to this union. In early years he farmed. Later he worked many years at the Denison Bottling Works. In the early 40's he began wiring rural farm homes for the new electric service brought to them by the R.E.C. In the early 50's he went to Florida and built his home there. Later he built his home there. Later he built a summer home in North Carolina near Asheville. His wife passed away in 1969. Later he married Anna M. Hines and continued to live in Florida until his death in August 16, 1996 at the age of 99 years.
Funeral services were held at the R. Lee Williams and Son Chapel on Tuesday August 20th at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Tom Couch officiating. Interment was at the Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Petersburg in Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; his children, Virginia and husband, Frank Jorgensen and Roberta, and her husband, Don Yankey of Denison, Dorothy and her husband Lloyd Carney of LaGrange, Indiana, Robert and wife, June of Lincoln, Nebraska and Nancy Martin of Pinellas Park, Florida. Also 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren, 2 step great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Elsie Fuller and Evelyn Griffith and one brother, Ted of Paradise, California, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Rosa Katherine (Riessen) Christiansen (1899 - 1992)
Rosa Katherine Christensen was born on April 20, 1899 at Willow Township near Charter Oak, Ia., the daughter of Luise Clausen Riessen and Johannes H. Riessen. She died Friday, Dec. 4, 1992 at the Manilla Manor Nursing Home in Manilla at the age of 93 years.Rosa was baptized in Christ as an infant by Rev. A. Amstein and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John's Lutheran Church also by Rev. Amstein on April 5, 1914. Rosa received her education in the Charter Oak Public School in addition to her Christian education in the Lutheran school.
On August 27, 1919, Rosa was united in marriage to Johannas Christiansen. The couple settled on a farm in Crawford County and were blessed with the birth of eleven children. They remained on the farm until 1944 when they retired and moved to Denison, Ia. where they lived until October of 1985 and moved to the Manilla Manor.
Rosa enjoyed occupying her free time in her flower and vegetable gardens in addition to the time spent crocheting, sewing, cooking and baking. She was a loving wife and mother who devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. She had wisdom, charm and a keen cleverness that will always be remembered by those who knew her. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and a past member of their Ladies Aid Association.
Rosa was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John in December of 1985; one infant daughter, Mary Louise; one son, Edgar; one grandson; five sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include three sons, Arthur and his wife, Ilene of Phoenix, Ariz., Phillip and his wife, Leone of Fallbrook, Calif., and Dr. Richard and his wife, Nancy of Ann Arbor, Mich. Also six daughters, Genevieve Baker of Manning, Lois Ahrenholtz and her husband, Howard of Manilla, Norma Juhl of Missouri Valley, Dorothy Smith and her husband, Duane of Audubon, Janet Miller and her husband, Greg of Houston, Texas, Donna Jack and her husband, Don of Phoenix, Ariz.; and one sister-in-law, Lois Christiansen of Canoga Park, Calif. Other survivors include 40 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Irene Huelsman and her husband, Eugene of Charter Oak and Helen Ausberger of Jefferson; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7, 1992 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison with Pastor Kurt Kaiser and Pastor Philip E. Bloch officiating the service and graveside rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns, "Abide With Me," "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," and "Jesus Christ, My Sure Defense." Pallbearers were Brian Smith, Jeffrey Juhl, Richard Kuhn, Earl Keesling, Dr. Darrel Baker, Eugene Ahrenholtz, Paul Christiansen and David Christiansen. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Walter A. Huebner and Sons' Funeral Home in Denison.
