Ella C. (Hesse) Woodford (1899 - 1973)
Mrs. Ella C. (Neubauer) Woodford, daughter of August and Ernestine Demuth Hesse was born on a farm in Segene, Texas, Feb. 20, 1899, and died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, May 23, at the age of 74 after a lingering illness.Mrs. Woodford attended rural schools and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She came to Crawford County with her parents when she was 12 years old.
She was united in marriage to William Neubauer of Ida Grove in 1917. They made their home on farms near Schleswig and Denison. To this union, four children were born. They retired in 1944 to Denison.
She was united in marriage in 1962 to Charles Woodford, Denison. Mr. Woodford died May 15, 1972.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, a son, Edwin, her parents, a grand child, and one sister, Helen.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. George (Viola) Segebart, Deloit, and Mrs. John (Esther) McNeely, Tucson, Ariz., one son, Clarence, also of Tucson, one step daughter, Mrs. Bill (Alberta) Clausen, Denison, 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, eight step grandchildren, a brother, Robert of Denison, three sisters, Mrs. Hulda Hottendorf, Denison, Mrs. Louise Kruger, Denison, and Mrs. Henry (Ida) Kollbaum, Anthon.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 25, at the Zion Lutheran church, Denison, with Rev. Robert Maschke officiating. Burial was in the Grant Township cemetery in Ida County. Arrangements were by the Huebner Funeral Home.

Wilhelmina (Berndt) Preuss (1896 - 1975)
Mrs. Henry Wilhelmina Preuss, a daughter of Chris Berndt and Bertha nee Raun, was born July 23, 1896 at Poplar Grove, Illinois, and departed from this life at her home southwest of Schleswig, early Sunday morning, July 6, 1975. Her life spanned 79 years, 1 month and 13 days.She received her education and grew to womanhood in Poplar Grove, Illinois, where she was united in marriage to Henry Preuss May 17, 1917. After her marriage, she came to the farm where she and Mr. Preuss were privileged to live together for 58 years. Two sons and a daughter were born to this union.
She became a member of the United Church of Christ in 1944. Mrs. Preuss had been in failing health for the past six months.
Her son Kenneth preceded her in death in 1958. Survivors include: her husband, Henry; her son William of the home; and a daughter, Henrietta, Mrs. John Reimers; a son-in-law, John Reimers of Charter Oak, four grandchildren, Shirleen, Mrs. Fred Jepsen of Charter Oak, Allen Reimers of Denison, Nancy, Mrs. Harry Schlotfield of Omaha and Tracy Preuss of Omaha; four great grandchildren; neighbors and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, July 8, 1975, at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig with Rev. A.F. Rinne officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. John Evers, organist, and Mrs. Ernie Grell and Mrs. Gunnar Johnson who sang "My Faith Looks Up To Thee" and "I Heard The Voice of Jesus". Bearers were: Vernon Brodersen, Gerald Jurgensen, Edmund Petersen, Roger Harm, Harry Meggers and Ronald Struck. Interment was in Morgan Cemetery, Schleswig.

Wilhelmine Dorothea (Riessen) Glau (1885 - 1966)
Funeral services for Dora Glau were held Monday, December 12 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, with Rev. F. A. Wiese officiating.Wilhelmine Dorothea Glau, daughter of Jurgen Riessen and Wilhelmine nee Witt was born November 28, 1885 in Crawford County where she grew up. She was both baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church.
She was married to John Glau at Schleswig on March 9, 1910. The couple lived in the Schleswig community until 1930. They then moved to a farm near Ida Grove, retiring to Ida Grove in 1952. After the death of her husband in 1958, she lived for several years with her brother Ed at Schleswig.
In May 1965, she made her home in Sunrise Manor at Sioux City. For the past several months, she was a patient at St. Joseph's Hospital at Sioux City. She died December 8th.
She is survived by two children, Edwin of Schleswig and Mildred, wife of Laurence McKensie of Sioux City, 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Three brothers, Ed of Schleswig, John of Sioux City and Bernhard of Denver, Colorado. She attained 81 years & 10 days.
Interment was made at the Ida Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were Walter Korner, Harry Ericksen, Allen Riessen, Donald Riessen, Alwayne Riessen and Elmer Ericksen.

William August Walde (1898 - 1973)
William August Walde, son of the late Paul and Marie (Clausen) Walde, was born February 28, 1898, in Germany and died February 1, 1973, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, after a prolonged illness, at the age of 74 years, 11 months and 4 days.Mr. Walde came to the U.S. with his parents when he was 9 years old. They made their home in Denison, Iowa. He attended Lutheran school and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
Mr. Walde worked on the farms before his marriage to Lillian Ruberg of Denison on July 3, 1917, at the Lutheran Parsonage in Denison. They made their home on farms in Crawford County, having lived on one farm for 31 years.
They retired to Denison in 1956. Mr. Walde suffered a stroke in 1941 and since this time had been unable to communicate verbally. He entered Eventide three years ago and entered Crawford County Memorial Hospital Tuesday, January 30, 1973.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, LaDonna, two brothers Albert and Henry.
Survivors include his wife Lillian; five sons, Walter, Raymond and Virgil of Denison, Edward of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Leonard of Vail, Iowa; seven daughters, Helen, Mrs. Kenneth Hinze and Wilma Walde of Denver, Colorado; Ruby, Mrs. Paul Jahn of Denison, Lillian, Mrs. Arden Fastenau of Aurora, Colorado, Gladys, Mrs. Phil Hagney of Gettysburg, South Dakota, Marilyn, Mrs. Max Yoakum of Des Moines, Iowa, and Marlene, Mrs. Gerald Brudenell of Tallahassee, Florida; 32 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one brother, Max of Denison; four sisters, Mrs. Minnie Moeller of Denison, Mrs. Hattie Wulf of Denison, Rose, Mrs. Wallace Larson of Kiron and Irene, Mrs. Howard Smith of Carroll.
Funeral services were held at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison on Saturday February 3, 1973 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Robert Maschke, officiating. Interment was made in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens at Denison with the following serving as pallbearers: Dennis Jahn, Ronald Jahn, Dennis Sonnichsen, Dale Walde, Roger Walde, and Russell Walde. Huebner Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

William Bockelmann (1896 - 1968)
William Bockelmann, son of Fred and Anna (Ackelbein) Bockelmann was born October 1, 1896 at Soldier Twp., Crawford County, Iowa. He was baptized and in 1911 confirmed in St. John's Lutheran Church at Charter Oak, Iowa.On July 8, 1915 he was united in marriage to Emma Margaret Rosburg and to this union five children were born. William and his wife lived in the Charter Oak area until 1947 when he semi-retired from farming and made their home in the town of Charter Oak.
He had been in failing health for the past 2 years and entered the Crawford County Memorial Hospital the last part of October and passed away Friday, November 8, 1968 at the age of 72 years, one month and seven days.
He is survived by his wife, Emma, his children, Herman of Charter Oak, Arlene, Mrs. Fred Kiepe of Ute, Albin of Omaha, LaVerne of Denison and William Jr. of Ida Grove. 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Three sisters, Minnie, Mrs. August Voss of Onawa, Lena, Mrs. Fred Aronson of Charter Oak, and Laurena, Mrs. Walter Henrichson of Colo.
He was preceded in death by both parents and one sister, Dora, Mrs. Nohna Pithan of Charter Oak.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 8, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. E. T. Lange, officiating Pastor. Interment in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Charter Oak with Dan Bockelmann, Donald Bockelmann, LeWayne Bockelmann, David Bockelmann, Eugene Bockelmann and Leon Kiepe serving as pallbearers. William Carl Schwarz (1882 - 1969)
William Carl Schwarz, son of Carl and Anna Schwarz was born on March 15, 1882 in Crawford County, near Ricketts, Ia., where he lived for his entire life.Mr. Schwarz was married to Christine Clausen on February 15, 1905 in Hanover Township. He and his wife farmed in the Ricketts community until he retired in 1944 and moved into the town of Ricketts.
Mr. Schwarz had held many offices in the community, he was Justice of the Peace, past mayor of Ricketts, past member of the Soldier Township school board, and was town clerk for many years. He was a charter member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church of Ricketts. He was baptized in his infancy at Hanover and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in his youth. He was a member of the Lutheran Laymens League, the A.A.L. and a member of the church board.
He died on February 9, 1969 at a Sioux City Hospital, having reached the age of 86 years, 10 months and 24 days.
He is survived by his sons, Victor and Paul of Ricketts, Ia., and Bernhard of Malta, Mont.; 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Mr. Schwarz was preceded in death by his wife on April 3, 1965; his parents; one brother; one son, Elmer; one grandchild, Larry, killed in Vietnam, and one great-grandchild, Dale.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 12, 1969 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church at Ricketts. Pastor Fredrick Wiese officiated. Pallbearers were James Schwarz, Richard Schwarz, Kenneth Schwarz, Vincent Crum, Robert Schwarz and Robert Andresen. Interment was at St. Paul's Lutheran cemetery in Hanover Township at Charter Oak, Iowa.

William Isabell DeMey (1888 - 1968)
Funeral services were held recently for William Isabell DeMey in Mumaw Chapel in Lancaster, Calif. Funeral mass was conducted in the Sacred Heart Church. Burial was in Joshua Memorial Park. A retired cattle and grain farmer, DeMey went to Antelope Valley in 1961.He was born March 14, 1888 in Vail, Iowa and died in Antelope Valley Hospital.
He is survived by his widow, the former Minnie L. Namanny whom he married Sept. 20, 1916 in Denison; three sons, Earl of Sanborn, Iowa; Raymond of Lancaster, Calif; and LeRoy of Sioux City; and two daughters, Pearl DeMey of Lancaster, Calif. and Irene Earnest of Ames.

William Frederick Eggert (1899 - 1973)
William Frederick Eggert, son of the late Adolph and Alevena Ruberg Eggert was born on a farm in Hanover Township on March 8, 1899 and died at his home in Denison on April 5, 1973 having attained the age of 83 years and 28 days.Services were held at 1 p. m. on Saturday, April 7, 1973 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Pastor Robert Maschke officiated at the services. Music was by Mrs. Fred Rabe as organist and Henry Henningsen as soloist.
Mr. Eggert grew to manhood on the farm. He attended rural schools and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
On March 29, 1911 he was united in marriage to Emma Vogt, and to this union five daughters and two sons were born. Mr. and Mrs. Eggert farmed in Hanover Township until retiring to Denison in 1944. Mrs. Eggert died on Nov. 6, 1970.
Mr. Eggert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Emma, one son Raymond, two brothers, Fred, and an infant brother Henry, and one granddaughter.
Survivors include one son, Edward. Five daughters, Hilda, Mrs. Leonard Mahnke, Viola, Mrs. Carl Miller, Edaline, Mrs. Arthur Boettger, Loretta, Mrs. Alfred Petersen, Erma Jean, Mrs. Marland Mork, all of Denison, 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, one brother Johannas of Denison, nieces and nephews and other relatives and a host of friends.
Interment was in Morgan Township Cemetery with Huebner Funeral Service in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Jerry Boettger, Ronald Miller, Steven Mork, Donald Eggert, Danny Mork, and Charles Petersen.

William G. Gehring (1891 - 1974)
William G. Gehring, son of William C. and Anna Jepsen Gehring, was born July 5, 1891 in Crawford County, and died September 25, 1974 in the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, at the age of 83.He grew up on the farm attended rural school and the Lutheran School in Denison. He was baptized in infancy and confirmed in 1907 at the Lutheran Church in Denison.
On December 18, 1912, he married Hertha Schade in Denison. They settled on a farm in Goodrich Township, and continued farming until retirement in 1946. They then moved to Denison where they continued to make their home. Mr. Gehring has been in failing health the past 10 years.
Mr. Gehring is survived by his wife, Hertha, four children: Adele (Mrs. Joe DeConnick), William L. Louis, and Mrs. Arlene Sovinski, all of Denison, eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Adele Christiansen of Ida Grove.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two children, Victor and Lucille, and a brother, Edward.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 28, 1974 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Robert Maschke officiating. Mrs. Fred Rabe served as organist and Arthur Beeck was soloist. The following served as Pallbearers: Robert Bell, William B. Gehring, Edward Gehring, Donald Steinkuehler, Norman Friedrichsen, William J. Gehring, Edlef Jurgensen, and Darrell West. Interment was made in the Morgan Township Cemetery, Schleswig, Iowa. Huebner Funeral Home was in charge of services.

William Groth (1901 - 1964)
Funeral services for William Groth were held Monday at the United Church of Christ (E&R). Mrs Ernie Grell and Mrs Don Meyer sang "Heaven is My Home" and "Abide With Me." Mrs Broder Petersen was the organist. Rev. Walter Baumgartner read the following obituary:William Groth was born on July 23, 1901 in Goodrich township, Crawford County. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Christopher Groth.
Mr Groth was married to Louise Wulf on November 25, 1925. To this union eight children were born. Mr and Mrs Groth lived in this community their entire life on a farm south east of Schleswig. Mr Groth united with the United Church of Christ through confirmation in 1947. He was in good health but death came suddenly, Friday evening while performing the evening chores, evidently the result of a heart attack.
Mr Groth is survived by his wife, Louise, eight children: Wilbert of Denison, Darlene, Mrs Arlo Jensen, Denison; Irene, Mrs Herman Meiners, Denison; Margaret, Mrs Erwin Moeller, Denison; Vertus of Denison; Marilyn, Mrs Darlo Perwitz, Charter Oak; Betty, Mrs Paul Meeves, Dunlap and Milroy at home. One brother, John of Denison; one sister, Mrs Fred Voss of Denison.
Seventeen grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr and Mrs Christopher Groth, one brother, Charles and one grandchild.
Burial was made in the Morgan Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Leonard Hagemann, Lester Hagemann, LeRoy Fredricks, Walter Maack, Harry Groth and Wm. Luth.

Edward Krohnke (1888 - 1982)
Edward Krohnke was born on July 12, 1888 in Morgan Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the son of Claus and Marie Heesch Krohnke. He died Sept. 19, 1982 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, at the age of 94.Edward spent his early years on a family farm. At the age of 13 he moved with his family into Schelswig. He recieved his formal education in the rural schools as well as the Schleswig community school. After the completion of his education, Edward worked for the railroad for several years before beginning a farming career.
When Edward was 26 years old, he was united in marriage to Amanda Henkel in Charter Oak. Together they made their home near Schleswig where they farmed for several years. Later they moved to Deloit where they started a dairy operation. A brief time later they moved to a farm in Goodrich Township where they remained for three years. For the next 25 years, Edward farmed the Krohnke homestead. For the past several years, Edward has made his home south of Schleswig. His wife Amanda died in 1974.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Edward was preceded in death by two brothers in infancy, three sisters and two other brothers.
Survivors include, two sons, Edgar of Schleswig and Howard of Schleswig, two daughters, Luella, Mrs. Kenneth Peters of Arcadia and Joyce Krohnke of Schleswig, two grand-children, Priscilla and Douglas and two great grandchildren, Sean and Dylan. Also surviving are two step grandchildren, Carolyn Lambert and Lois Boyens, four step great grandchildren and one step great great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Sept. 21, at 10:30 a.m. At the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. The Rev. Fred Moore officiated at the services. Mrs. Evelyn Johnson served as organist with Mrs. Rubie Kastner, soloist. Pallbearers included, Gaylen Bahnsen, Ray Boyens, John Gosch, Douglas Krohnke, Francis Krohnke and Arnold Jepsen. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Edward Lamp (1888 - 1974)
Edward Lamp, son of Jochim and Agnes Wiese Lamp, was born July 27, 1888 in Iowa Township, Crawford County.He attended the country schools near his home in 1915, and married Laura Friedrichsen of rural Manning. The couple farmed in Crawford and Carroll counties until 1939. They then moved to Denison to make their home. Mr. Lamp worked at the Armour plant during and after World War II. He then was employed by the City of Denison and served on the police force for about eight years before retiring.
On March 28, 1974, he entered the Crawford County Memorial Hospital until April 8 when he was taken to the Denison Manor of Denison for care until his death May 3.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Marvin, Vertus and Charles, one sister, Mrs. Henry (Jessie) Voge, all of Manning, one son, Clifford of Phoenix, Ariz., one granddaughter and one son-in-law.
He is survived by his wife, Laura, three sons, Harvey of Denison; Wilbur of Manning; and Arnold of Coon Rapids, three daughters, Mrs. Walter (Delores) Sonnichsen of Denison; Mrs. William (Marion) Nicholson of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Robert (Norma) Archer of Denver, a daughter-in-law, 17 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and four brothers, Frank Lamp of Carroll, and Herman, Hubert, and Gerhardt all of Manning. Mr. and Mrs. Lamp had celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary in February of this year.
Funeral services were held at the Maxwell Funeral Home, Denison, May 6 with the Rev. Robert Maschke officiating. Burial was at the Manning Cemetery.

Edward Lapel (1885 - 1975)
Edward Lapel, son of Johann and Caroline Miller Lapel, was born on a farm near Manilla April 12, 1885 and died at the Eventide Home for the Aged Saturday, Feb. 8, 1975 having reached the age of 88 years 9 months and 27 days.Mr. Lapel attended rural schools. He was united in marriage to Dora Rohde of Manilla Feb. 21, 1906: They made their home on a farm near Manilla, and were blessed with three sons. Mr. and Mrs. Lapel retired to Denison, in 1953. Mrs. Lapel died in May of 1954. The past two years, Mr. Lapel made his home at Eventide Home for the Aged due to ill health.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dora, his parents, four brothers; Gus, John, William and Henry and two sisters, Anna and Adele.
Survivors include three sons Wilbert of Denison, Raymond of Vail, Albert of Springfield, Mo., eight grandchildren, several great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Feb. 11, 1975 at 2 p.m. at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, with Rev. Harold McDonnell officiating. Songs sung were "My Task" and "A Perfect Day". The following served as pallbearers: Walter Walde, Evan Anderson, Carl F. Meyer, Bernard Miller, Irvin Slechta, Art Frahm. Interment was made in the Lutheran Cemetery, Denison.

Edward Reincke (1898 - 1992)
Edward Reincke was born on November 29, 1898, the son of Rudolph and Katherine Streck Reincke. He died on Friday, June 26, 1992 at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa at the age of ninety-three years.Edward was born on a farm north of Schleswig and attended a rural school near his home. He was baptized in the Lutheran Church in Grant Township and confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. H. Schwenk on March 16, 1913. After completing his education, Edward worked for his father until he went on his own at the age of twenty-one.
On July 26, 1922, Edward was united in marriage to Anna Boysen at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Schleswig and the couple were blessed with the birth of four children.
They settled on a farm west of Charter Oak where they farmed until their retirement in 1950 and moved to Charter Oak. Edward was a loving and caring husband and father who was happy all of his life and had many friends. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anna; three brothers; one sister; one grandchild; and one son. Survivors include two sons, Leonard of Ute and Roy and his wife Joan of Long View, Texas; and one daughter Marcella Schwingdorf and her husband Leonard of Ute, Iowa. Also twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and one daughter-in-law, Juanita Stephensen.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday June 29, 1992 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. Vicar Patrick Sparling officiated the service and grave side rites held at the St. Paul's Cemetery in Charter Oak. Art Beeck provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "How Great Thou Art" and "Abide With Me." Pallbearers were: Ralph Bohlmann, Laverne Strait, Marvin Streck, Ervin Kuhlmann, Harwin Jess and Glenn Quandt.

Elfrieda Christena (Asmus) Hopp (1899 - 1996)
Elfrieda Christena Hopp was born August 15, 1899, the daughter of William and Anna Schurke Asmus Sr. She died on Saturday, March 16,1996 at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa at the age of ninety-six.Elfrieda was born on a farm west of Denison, Iowa where she lived with her parents. She was baptized in Christ on September 24, 1899 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa and confirmed there on April 5, 1914. Elfrieda received her education in a rural school in Paradise Township and the Zion Lutheran School.
In 1918, Elfrieda was united in marriage to William Prosch. In 1920, she was united in marriage to Paul Hopp and they made their home on a farm. Along with being a homemaker, Elfrieda helped with the farm work and helped care for her paralyzed mother.
The couple moved to Denison in 1944, but years later they returned to the farm. Paul died in April of 1971 and Elfrieda remained on the farm until entering the Denison Care Center in 1986.
Elfrieda was a life long member of Zion Lutheran Church. She enjoyed flower gardening, especially roses, fishing, watching birds and other animals. She loved entertaining, had a smile for everyone and loved to hum musical tunes. She also enjoyed the companionship of her two dogs, Mitty and Lady.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother, four brothers, Ervin, William, Alfred, Marvin, two half-brothers, Harold, DeWaine and one half-sister, Mary Ann.
Survivors include two daughters, Evelyn Fredericks and her husband, Harold of Deloit, Lou Ann Haberberger of Denison; three grandsons, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; one brother, Loren Asmus and his wife, Rose of Redding, California; one sister, Edna Wolfe of Denison; one half-brother, Alvin Asmus and his wife, Eleanor of Mitchell, South Dakota; three half-sisters, LaVonne Lane and her husband, Brian of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Lois Teal and her husband, Roger and Arlene Kustz and her husband, Kenneth all of Brookings, South Dakota.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 16, 1996 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Vicar Andrew Carlson officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Henry Henningsen singing "I'm But a Stranger Here" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and congregational hymn "My Faith Looks Up to Thee". Honorary Pallbearers were: Merlin Jurgensen, Leroy Fredericks, Louis Hinricksen, Wilbert Groth, Arlo Jensen and Daniel Grill. Pallbearers were: Jeffry Haberberger, Shawn Haberberger, Gene Haberberger, Lee Haberberger, John McClellan and Tom Ransom. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Dorcas Society. Elizabeth (Shupitar - Clausen) Littleton (1894 - 1981)
Elizabeth Clausen Littleton was born on Feb. 28, 1894, near Vail, the daughter of Michael and Victoria Shebetka Shupitar. She died Oct. 31, 1981, at the Denison Care Center at the age of 87.Elizabeth spent her early years on a family farm near Vail. She received her formal education in the rural schools near her home. After the completion of her education she moved to Vail where she made her home for several years.
On Jan. 15, 1914, Elizabeth was united in marriage to John W. Clausen. Together they made their home on a farm near Vail. After Mr. Clausen's death in 1938, Elizabeth continued to make her home on the farm and later returned to the Vail community.
In 1965, Elizabeth moved to Denison. She was united in marriage to Frank Littleton on Jan. 17, 1976 in Denison. Mr. Littleton died in Nov. of 1977. Elizabeth has since continued to make her home in Denison where she became a member of the First Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents and her husbands John and Frank, Elizabeth was preceded in death by two sons, Floyd and Elwin, one brother and six sisters.
Survivors include, two daughters Lucille, Mrs. Lester Lee and Arlene, Mrs. Marion Day both of Denison, one step-daughter, Dorothy, Mrs. Dorothy Munson of Denison and one step-son, Rex Littleton of Denison. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, seventeen step-great grandchildren and three step-great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Nov. 2, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Denison. Burial was in the Vail Cemetery at Vail. The Rev. Warren Wilson officiated at the services. Serving as pallbearers were Thomas Brady, Ronald Tucker, Lloyd Deiber, Dick Weatherman, Jack Fast and Richard Clausen.

Ella Alma (Aldag) Grell (1895 - 1984)
Ella Alma Grell was born on June 11, 1895, in Hayes Township, Ida County, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Sophia Prosch Aldag. She died on Friday morning, October 26, 1984, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison at the age of 89.Ella was raised on a farm in Ida County. She attended rural schools near her home. She was baptized and later confirmed in the Christian faith in Grant Township.
On July 16, 1913, Ella was united in marriage to Willie Grell in Grant Township. Together they made their home on a farm northwest of Schleswig. After their retirement, they moved to Ida Grove. Mr, Grell died in 1952. Ella made her home with her daughter for nineteen years before moving to Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison. Ella was a long-time member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig.
In addition to her husband, Ella was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Minnie and Annie, three brothers, Henry, Willie and John and by one great-grandson, Ryan Baker.
Survivors include one daughter, Vernette, Mrs. Marvin Baker of Kiron; two sons, Ernie Grell and Leslie Grell of Schleswig; five grandchildren, twelve greatgrandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Theodore Aldag of Denison, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Monday, October 29, 1984, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. The Rev. Fred Moore officiated at the services. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. Mrs. Dorothy Jessen served as organist with Mrs. Rubie Kastner as soloist. Hymns included "Abide With Me" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". Serving as pallbearers were Louis Aldag, Lowell Aldag, Alwin Aldag, Kenneth Aldag, Walter Grell and Fred Grell.

Ella C. (Boger) Schramm (1890 - 1977)
Ella C. Schramm was born on April 7, 1890, the daughter of Fritz and Ida Boger, at Paradise Township. She died on Sunday, April 3, 1977 at Crawford County Memorial Hospital, after a long illness, at the age of 86.As a young girl, Ella was raised and educated in Crawford County. She was baptized and later confirmed into the Lutheran faith.
On Sept. 10, 1913 she was united in marriage to Ed Schramm. Together they lived on a farm in Crawford County moving to Denison in 1921. To this union 10 children were born. In 1951 Ella's husband Ed died and she continued to live in Denison where she raised her family. Ella was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and was one of the oldest members of its Ladies' Aid.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Ella was preceded in death by three children in infancy, one son Edward in 1966, two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include, six daughters, Hattie, Mrs. Ray Myers of Las Vegas, Nev., Marie, Mrs. Virgil McCord, Denison, Elenanore, Mrs. Clarence Miller, Denison, Mrs. Vera McLean, Solana Beach, Calif., Mrs. Lorraine Gunderson, Denison, Irene, Mrs. Harold Eggert, Denison and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lois Schramm Blum of Palos Verdes, Calif. Also by 21 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren, and by three sisters, Mrs. Hilda Kahl of Manning, Mrs. Anna Kock of Denison and Hattie, Mrs. Herman Kahl of Buck Grove.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 6 at 2:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Denison. The Rev. Gary Hoffstetter officiated with Henry Henningsen and Mrs. Fred Rabe providing the music. Burial was- in the Morgan Cemetery, Schleswig. Pallbearers were Richard Gunderson, Stephen Gunderson, Gordon Gunderson, DeWayne McCord, Kurt Crispin and Mark Miller. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home, Denison.

Ella D. (Boysen) Hansen (1892 - 1986)
Ella D. Hansen, the daughter of Broder Boysen and Lena Ehlers Boysen, was born on April 22, 1892, in Goodrich Township, Crawford County. She died Nov. 10 at Crawford County Memorial Hospital.Ella spent her early years on a farm in Goodrich Township and she attended Goodrich Country School. After her schooling, she stayed at home, helping her parents, with the stacking of the grain, husking the corn and milking cows. Ella was Baptized on July 23, 1893 and later Confirmed on November 10, 1935 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Stockholm Township.
On February 23, 1916, she was united in marriage to Myers Hansen at the Lutheran parsonage by Rev. William Frese. Their married life began on her fathers farm in Goodrich Township, later they bought the farm, living on this place for 28 years, at which time they retired and moved to Denison to make their home. Ella was a long time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and was a member of the Zion Ladies Aid.
In addition to her parents, Ella was preceded in death by her husband, Myers, who died on May 12, 1957 and one great-grandson.
Survivors include, her two sons, Leo Hansen and his wife Opal of Deloit; and Elroy Hansen and his wife Lucille of Denison. Also surviving are five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Nov. 14, 1986 at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery. The Rev. Donald Fraker and Rev. James W. Ristvedt officiated at the services. Mrs. Fred Rabe served as organist with Henry Henningsen as soloist. Serving as pallbearers were: Clayton Bral, Merritt Behrens, Dennis Hansen, Eric Hansen, Jason Hansen and Richard Hansen. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison, Iowa.

Ella C. (Brockman) Friedrichsen (1888 - 1981)
Ella C. Friedrichsen was born on May 14, 1888 in Ida County, Iowa, the daughter of Claus and Catherine Larson Brockman. She died on Friday, December 25, 1981, at the Manning Plaza, Manning, Iowa, at the age of 93.Ella was united in marriage to Carl J. Friedrichsen on February 27, 1913, at Schleswig, Iowa. Together they made their home on a farm near Schleswig until 1949 when they retired and moved into Schleswig. Mr. Friedrichsen died in 1972.
In 1973, Ella moved to Denison to be near her son. Later she became a resident of the Odebolt Colonial Manor. For the past three years, she has been a resident of the Manning Plaza.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Ella was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include, one son Raymond C. Friedrichsen of Denison, two grandchildren, Larry Friedrichsen of Snyder, Nebraska and Joanne, Mrs. Lynn Shurter of Graettinger, Iowa. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, December 28, 1981, at 2:00 p.m. at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. The Rev, James Cobb of the United Presbyterian Church officiated at the services. Serving as pallbearers were Richard Moeller, Herbert Wellendorf, Bill Brockman, Ray Jepsen, Alvin Stockfleth and Milroy Hottendorf.

Ella (Holtorf) Keller (1898 - 1988)
Ella Keller was born Aug. 30, 1898, the daughter of John and Friederiea Peters Holtorf Sr. She died May 10, 1988, at her home Schleswig at the age, of 89 years.As a young girl, Ella lived with her parents on the family farm, and received her childhood education in rural schools. She enjoyed her childhood with three brothers: John, Arthur and William; and two sisters: Rose and Amanda, all of whom have preceded her in death.
On Feb. 25, 1920, Ella was united in marriage to Otto Keller at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Together, they made their home on farms in Monona and Crawford Counties where Otto farmed the land and she cared for their two children. In 1932 they moved to Schleswig where Otto was employed for 16 years as a policeman and later employed by the town of Schleswig. After retirement, they remained in Schleswig.
Ella spent her life caring for her family and was a loving wife and devoted mother who enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, and playing cards. She enjoyed family events and dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
In addition to her parents, husband,b rothers, and sisters, Ella was preceded in death by one grandson; one great-grandson; and two sons-in-law; Elmer Namanny and Francis Quandt both of Schleswig.
She is survived by two daughers: Marcella, Mrs. Elmer Namanny and LaRue, Mrs. Francis Quandt both of Schleswig; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 12, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Pastor Richard Nelson and Pastor Kenneth Hessel officiating. Mrs. Marlene Hight was organist for the Immanuel Ladies Choir singing "Rock Of Ages" and "How Great Thou Art." Burial was in Morgan Cemetery at Schleswig. Serving as pallbearers were Ron Quandt, Adam Namanny, Richard Quandt, Russell Quandt, Jerry Namanny and Tom Murphy. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig.

Ella H. (Jepsen) Kuehnhold (1897 - 1993)
Ella H. Kuehnhold, daughter of Fred and Anna Margarita Marquardt Jepsen, was born November 16, 1897 on a farm in Goodrich Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and received her education in the rural schools.On January 6, 1925, Ella was united in marriage with Adolph O. Kuehnhold. They settled on a farm near Charter Oak where they farmed for thirty-five years. Their union was blessed with five children, Vernon, Betty, Melvin, Donald and Wayne. They lived on the farm until 1958 when they retired and moved to Denison.
Adolph died November 25, 1968 and Ella continued to reside in Denison. Mom was a kind and loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and caring for her flowers in her yard. She especially enjoyed the visits with her family and friends always showing her strong Christian faith by the concern she had for others.
Ella lived in her home in Denison until December 7, 1983 when she moved to the Denison Care Center where she resided until her death. Ella entered into rest Tuesday evening, June 15, 1993 having attained the age of 95 years, 6 months, and 29 days. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
Including her husband and her parents, Ella was preceded in death by four sisters, Annie and Mary Jepsen in infancy, Emma Gregahes and Amanda Pickel, and five brothers, Henry, Fred, Herman, William and Edward Jepsen.
Those who remain to cherish her memory include five children and their spouses. Vernon and Dorothy Kuehnhold of Denison, Betty and Jerry Fouts of Dow City, Melvin and Mary Kuehnhold of West Point, Nebraska, Donald and JoAnn Kuehnhold and Wayne and Gloria Kuehnhold all of Denison, 24 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Elsa Jepsen of Denison and Ella Hoefs of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Ella (Reinking) Lenz (1893 - 1979)
Ella Lenz was born on August 26, 1893, near Schleswig, Iowa, in Grant Township, Ida County, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Dora Bielenberg Reinking. She died on Monday evening, December 24, 1979, at the Bishop Clarkson Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 86.Ella spent her early years on a family farm north of Schleswig. She received her formal education in the rural schools near her home. She was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church at Grant Township.
On February 23, 1916, Ella was united in marriage to Henry Lenz at Schleswig, Iowa. They farmed near Schleswig until 1946 when they retired and moved to Schleswig. Mr. Lenz died in 1958 and since that time, Ella has continued to make her home in Schleswig. Ella was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a member of Immanuel Ladies Aid.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter-in-law, two sisters and one brother.
Survivors include, two sons, Loren and Howard, both of Schleswig; four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Also by one sister, Mrs. Harriett Reimer of Schleswig and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Friday, December 28, 1979, at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Schleswig, Iowa. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery. The Rev. Theodore Letzring, pastor, officiated at the services. Pallbearers included Walter Gosch, Milt Wassgren, E.W. Claussen, Bill Brockmann, Lyle Gruhn and Richard Frank.

Ella Margaret (Peters) Schroeder (1889 - 1993)
Ella Margaret Schroeder was born October 6, 1889, in Otto Creek Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the daughter of Claus and Emma (Schrader) Peters. She graduated with the third graduating class of Schleswig High School in 1906. As a young woman she worked for Dr. Schultz and also as a telephone operator in Schleswig.She married Herman C. F. Schroeder on January 3, 1912. Ella was a hard working, faithful and loving wife and mother. Helping her husband in his store making metwurst and bologna for which they were well known for. Mr. Schroeder died on April 6, 1948.
She continued in the work field. Working at Wolfs Department Store and later at Marie's Dress Shop both in Ida Grove, retiring at the age of 91.
In September of 1986 Ella entered the Morningside Care Center in Ida Grove where she was lovingly cared for over six and a half years. She died at the age of 103, Friday, May 28, 1993, at the care center.
Her family includes two daughters, Lenore and her husband, Edmund Hamann, and Garnet Potter, 2 grandsons and their wives, Dennis and Trudie Potter and Gary and Barbara Potter; 5 great-grandchildren, Jessica, Jackie, Jennifer, Jon, and Greg Potter, and 1 great-great-grandson, Andy Potter.
Ella was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 sisters, 4 brothers, 3 half brothers, and a son-in-law.
Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 1, 1993 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Richard Hempenius officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Morgan Township Cemetery in Schleswig, Iowa. Evelyn Johnson provided the organ music and the congregation sang "Amazing Grace" and "When I, O Lord".

Elma L. (Brown-Ivey) Jensen (1897 - 1982)
Elma L. Jensen, born Jan. 27, 1897, to Mr. and Mrs. William Brown of Fairfield, 111. She was adopted in 1899 by Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Ivey of Manilla. She moved from Manilla to Perry in 1926 and was employed by Ringheim's Dry Goods Store until her marriage.She was married to Oliver Jensen on March 9, 1927. Mr. Jensen preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 1977. Mrs. Jensen was a resident of Perry for 54 years, until moving to the Davis Nursing Home in Denver, Colo, in 1980, where she died on July 21, 1982.
She was a member of the Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Milwaukee RR Clubs, and other community organizations.
She is survived by two children, Mrs. Lavon Jensen Pickford and her husband, Hugh of Houston, Tex., Gerald Jensen and his wife, Florence of Denver, Colo., by eight grandchildren, James, Susan and William Pickford, all of Houston, Tex., Craig Jensen of Springfield, Ill., Wayne Jensen of Ft. Collins, Colo., Bruce Jensen of Gunnison, Colo., Scott Jensen of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Cheryl Jensen ot Denver. Also a sister, Mildred Mason of Odebolt.
Graveside services were held July 26, at 2 p.m. at the Nishnabotna Cemetery, Manilla. Ohde Funeral Home, Manilla, was in charge of the graveside services. Rev. John Cornish, Manilla United Methodist Church, officiated at the rites.

Elma (Lorenzen) Stoltenberg (1891 - 1983)
Elma Stoltenberg was born on November 4, 1891, near Schleswig, Iowa, the daughter of Mathias and Christine Lorenzen. She died Monday evening, August 15, 1983, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison at the age of 91.Elma moved with her family at an early age to Worthington, Minnesota, where they resided for nine years after which they moved to Walnut, Iowa and back to Schleswig, Elma attended schools at Schleswig, Walnut and Bayles Business College at Council Bluffs, Iowa.
On November 29, 1917, Elma was united in marriage to Ennis Stoltenberg at Papillion, Nebraska. Together they made their first home in Onawa. To this union two sons were born. Later they moved to Schleswig where for many years they operated a grocery business. In 1945 they retired and continued to make Schleswig their home where they were members of the United Church of Christ. Elma was also a member of the Women's Guild and American Legion Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 1970, her son Lt. Kenneth, who lost his life over Formosa in WWII in 1942, two sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include one son, Darrell Stoltenberg and his wife Alverda of South Bend, Indiana, three grandchildren Randy, Susan and Kay Ann and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Friday, August 19, 1983, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. The Rev. Fred Moore officiated at the services. Andrea Neddermeyer served as organist with Rubie Kastner as soloist for the services. Hymns included "How Great Thou Art" and "Abide With Me". Pallbearers were Leonard Hollander, Ray Schmidt, Larry Clausen, Harry Wellendorf, E.W. Claussen and Byron Behrmann.

Elsie A. (Neddermeyer) Kunze (1894 - 1988)
Elsie A. Kunze was born on Feb. 21, 1894 near Charter Oak, la., the daughter of Christian Neddermeyer and Katherine Kunze Neddermeyer. She was baptized in St. John's Lutheran Church and was confirmed in 1906 by Reverend Amstein. She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church and was a former member of the Ladies Aid. She received her education in St. John's parochial school in Charter Oak.On Feb. 21, 1915, Elsie and Fred Kunze were united in marriage by Reverend Amstein, and to this union three children were born: Lawrence, Fred and Phyllis. Her husband Fred died on Feb. 5, 1972.
She lived with her family in the vicinity of Charter Oak and Ute until she and her husband retired from farming in 1949. She enjoyed gardening and crocheting. After her husband's death she remained in Charter Oak until she entered the Dunlap Care Center in Dunlap, in 1980.
She entered Jenny Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, on Dec. 30, 1987 for surgery and died Jan. 14, 1988, shortly after 4 a.m. She reached the age of 93 years, 11 months and seven days.
In addition to her parents and husband Fred, Elsie was preceded in death by her sons: Lawrence and Fred; one grandson Kim; a great-granddaughter Tammy; five brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include: her daughter Phyllis and husband, Edward Baak of Charter Oak; twelve grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Homer Musgrove of Council Bluffs, and two sisters-in-law: Mrs. Eleanora Neddermeyer and Mrs. Viola Kunze, both of Charter Oak, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 1988 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, with burial in the St. Paul's Cemetery near Charter Oak. Vicar Michael Awe officiated the service and the graveside rites. Art Beck served as organist for congregational singing of "Just As I Am Without One Plea" and "I'm But A Stranger Here." Serving as pallbearers were Darin Gloede, Jason Schneider, Chad Kunze, Eric Schneider, Randy Gloede and Dean Petersen. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak.

Elsie Amelia (Schwarz) Schreiber (1899 - 1985)
Elsie Amelia Schreiber was born April 26, 1899, in Soldier Township. She died June 22 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of 86. Elsie was educated in the Soldier Township school and Immanuel Lutheran school near Ricketts.Elsie was united in marriage to Carl A. Schreiber on Jan. 24, 1929 at the home of Rev. Ott in Morningside. They made their home in Ricketts until the spring of 1934 when they moved to a farm north of Ricketts. They retired in 1961 and settled in Ricketts. She was a member of St. John's Ladies Aid for many years, and served for the American Cancer Society in Soldier Township.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Amelia Schwarz, and one sister, Emma Buenger.
Survivors include: her husband Carl Sr., three sons: Carl H. of Algona; Edwin D. of Twin Falls, Id.; Robert E. of Ricketts; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren; two sisters: Elma, Mrs. Elma Koeppen of Mapleton; Carrie Langholdt of Eventide; two brothers: Walter Schwarz of Sioux City and Henry A. Schwarz of Climbing Hill.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 25 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. Interment was in the Soldier Township Cemetery. Vicar Robert Wagner officiated at the services and the graveside rites. Mrs. Paul Claussen served as organist with the St. John's Ladies Choir singing hymns "Abide With Me" and "I Know My Redeemer Lives." Serving as pallbearers were: Carl H. Schreiber, Edwin D. Elsie (Rath) Schoening (1897 - 1993)
Elsie Schoening was born July 9, 1897 to the late John and Elise Schroeder Rath in Crawford County, Iowa. She died Jan. 31, 1993. She grew up in Iowa and was baptized and confirmed at Johannes Lutheran Church, Crawford Co. Iowa.She married Paul Schoening on Oct. 25, 1916 at Denison, la. and lived at Buck Grove. They then farmed near Dow City. Mr. Schoening soon became involved in banking. Among other towns, they lived in Cherokee, Primghar and Lester. They moved to Battle Creek, Neb. from Lester in 1955 where Mr. Schoening was in the Battle Creek Bank. After retiring, they moved to Norfolk. Mr. Schoening passed away Aug. 2, 1962.
Elsie was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid, Willing Hands Group, Lutheran Women's Missionary League and worked many years as a volunteer in the Lutheran Hospital Women's Service Guild.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Maxine) Wyant of Sioux Falls, S.D., 2 daughters-in-law, Melva Schoening wife of the late Merlin Schoening of Norfolk, Neb. Lynda Schoening Petersen, wife of the late Vernon Schoening of Denison, la., four grandchildren, three step grandchildren, 12 step-great grandchildren, 11 step-great great grandchildren, one half-brother, Bob Rath, of Denison, la., two half-sisters Carmen Beermann and Gertie Christiansen of Denison, la.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul, two sons Merlin and Vernon, four brothers, one sister and 4 half brothers.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1993 at Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk, Neb. Services were conducted by Pastor John C. Bass. Soloist Dan Heibel sang "Amazing Grace" and the congregational hymn was "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". Pallbearers were Elmer Gall, Gilbert Hinnerichs, Clarence Brueggeman, Bill Meisinger, Earl Meisinger, and LeRoy Meisinger. Interment was in the New Lutheran Cemetery, Norfolk, Neb. Arrangements were by Howser Fillmer Mortuary, Norfolk, Neb.

Elsie (Blunk-Martin) Schultz (1898 - 1976)
Mrs. Elsie Martin Schultz, daughter of Wilhelm and Dora Bohman Blunk, was born near Ricketts, On May 12, 1898. She died at the Jefferson Manor Nursing Home, in Jefferson, on Thursday, Oct, 21, 1976 after attaining the age of 78 years, 5 months and 9 days.Mrs. Schultz was raised in the Ricketts community, where she attended rural schools, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, in the Hanover Twp. Church.
Oct. 15, 1919, she was united in marriage to Arthur Martin, and to this union, one daughter was born. They made their home on farms in the Charter Oak and Ricketts area. Mr. Martin died January 8, 1930.
On March 21, 1934, she was united in marriage to Ernst Schultz, at St. Paul's Lutheran parsonage, Hanover Twp. and made their home in Ricketts and Charter Oak, before moving to Denison where she lived the past 30 years. Mr. Schultz died June 29, 1968. Mrs. Schultz entered the Jefferson Manor Nursing Home in February of this year, due to poor health.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents; three brothers, William, August and Herman, also three sisters, Bertha, Emma and Martha.
Survivors include her daughter, Arlene, Mrs. Harry Christie, of Armour, South Dakota; 2 step-sons, Leo, of Chicago, Ill., and Melvin, of Schleswig, two step-daughters, Melinda, Mrs. Ed Meyer, Chicago, Illinois, Matilda, Mrs. Iver Nielsen of Littleton, Colorado, also eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Huebner Funeral Home on Saturday, Oct. 23, at 1:30 p.m., Pastor Gary Hoffstetter officiated. Organist was Mrs. La Vera Venzke and soloist was Henry Henningsen. Interment was made in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Hanover Twp. Pallbearers were: Warren Hass, Herman Wellendorf, Dave Duncan, Sr., Ray Siemer, Bernard Duncan and Charles Furne.

Emil August Seils (1891 - 1981)
Emil August Seils was born Dec. 13, 1891 in Soldier Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the son of Albert and Wilhelmina Fahrnow Seils. He died April 26, 1981 at Eventide Lutheran Home, Denison, at the age of 89.Emil was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township. He spent his early years on a family farm in Soldier Township, attending Immanuel Lutheran School where he received his formal education.
On March 15, 1922, Emil was united in marriage to Martha Goerner at Charter Oak. They made their home on the Siels home place where they farmed for twenty-five years before moving to Charter Oak. Emil was employed in Charter Oak for a number of years before retirement.
In addition to his parents, Emil was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters. Survivors include, his wife Martha of Charter Oak, one daughter, Vernet, Mrs. Vic Bohlmann of Jefferson, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also by one sister, Mrs. Ella Goberson of Mapleton, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held April 29, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery. The Rev. L.C. Gebhardt officiated at the services. Pallbearers were Loren Seils, Ray Else, Reynold Goerner, Larry Aronsen, Jerry Bohnsen and Robert Schreiber. Funeral arrangments were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Emilie F. (Neuman) Gronau (1892 - 1990)
Emilie F. Gronau, the daughter of Johann and Anna Tama Neumann, was born Feb. 22, 1892, on the family farm near Kiron, la. She died March 15, 1990, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, la. at the age of 98 years.Emilie was baptized a Christian, March 12, 1892, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Stockholm Township near Kiron. She grew up on the family farm and attended a rural school and the German School located near the church. She was confirmed April 8, 1906, at St. John's Lutheran Church. She furthered her education at a sewing school in Omaha, Neb.
Emilie and Henry Carl Gronau of Kiron, were united in marriage Sept. 16, 1914, at St. John's Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with a daughter and son. They made their home on the Gronau family farm near Kiron, where Emilie continued to make her home until November, 1988, when she entered Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison.
Emilie was active in many things: She and her sister, Frieda Friedrichsen, as partners, owned and operated the Sisters Cafe in Kiron for a number of years; and she decorated wedding cakes. Her memberships included: the Loren Club, the Home and Garden Club, a life long member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for many years, a charter member of the St. John's Ladies Aid, the quilting circle of the church; and the Lutheran Womens Missionary League.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Henry; her daughter, Frieda, as a young girl; her son, Albert L. Gronau; a daughter-in-law, Virginia Gronau; three brothers and five sisters.
Survivors include four grandchildren: Jean and her husband, Lyle Kropf or Kiron, Jerry Gronau and his wife, Barbara of Odebolt, Abe Gronau and his wife, Lynne of Kiron, and Jane Gronau of Kiron. Also surviving are seven great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; one sister, Frieda Friedrichsen of Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison and one sister-in-law, Orpha Neumann of Urbana, Ill.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Satur-day, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Stockholm Township with Pastor Hilmer Hafner officiating. Interment was in the church cemetepr. Lois Gronau was organist and Darwin Walter was soloist. Solo selections were "Softly and Tenderly" and "How Great Thou Art." Congregational hymns were "I'm But a Stranger Here, Heaven is My Home" and "Jesus Lives; The Victory's Won." Serving as pallbearers were: Todd Brus, Terry Clark, Keith Gronau, Scott Gronau, Tim Kropf, Kevin Namanny and Jeff Ullrich. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Walter A. Huebner and Sons' Funeral Service in Denison, la.

Emily Mary (Greder) Spack (1891 - 1982)
Emily Mary Spack was born on Dec. 20, 1891 near Denison, the daughter of Jocob and Katherine Greder. She died on March 31, 1982 at the Manning Hospital, Manning, at the age of 90.Emily was reared on a family farm in Crawford County. She received her early education in the rural schools near her home. She was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
On April 5, 1909, Emily was united in marriage to Michael Spack. Together they made their first home on a farm near Buck Grove. They continued to farm in Crawford County until the time of Mr. Spack's death in 1948. Later, Emily moved to Aspinwall where she was employed. In 1971, she moved to the Manning Plaza due to failing health.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Emily was preceded in death by two sons, Elmer and Victor, two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include one son, Clifford of Aspinwall, one daughter, Esther, Mrs. Ed Jochimsen of Charter Oak, two daughter-in-laws Arlene Spack and La Verne Spack, nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
Funeral services were held April 2 at 2:00 p.m. at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery. The Rev. Jack Heck of Zion Lutheran Church officiated at the services. Pallbearers were Ronald Jochimsen, Mike Spack, Mark Spack, Rick Spack, Abe Gronau and Dallas Lile. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Emma Alvina Wilhamina (Christiansen) Ohl (1897 - 2003)
Emma Alvina Wilhamina Ohl was born March 7, 1897, the daughter of Fred and Pauline Tech Christiansen. She died Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa at the age of one-hundred-five.Emma was born in Soldier Township near Charter Oak, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ in April of 1897 in Soldier Township by Rev. Wehking and was confirmed on April 11, 1911 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. William Freese. Emma received her education at a rural school near her home. After completing her education, she assisted in the the family home.
On May 2, 1917, Emma was united in marriage to Nicholas Ohl at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. William Freese. The couple farmed near Dunlap and Charter Oak areas and were blessed with the birth of four children. They moved to Dunlap on November 6, 1965. During Emma's life time she was a seamstress, designing clothes for herself and her family.
Emma was a devoted member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City and their Ladies Aid. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, especially making aprons for family members and friends. She also enjoyed playing Pitch and Euchre. In her younger years, Emma enjoyed attending house and barn dances.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1966, three brothers, Herbert, Walter and Raymond and two sisters, Anna and Lillian.
Survivors include two daughters, Leona Naslund of Denison; Evelyn McMinemee and her husband, Wayne of Denison; two sons, Maynard Ohl and his wife, Adlyn of Dow City; Ferris Ohl and his wife, Fern of Hinton; twenty grandchildren, fifty-five great-grandchildren and seventeen great-great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
"This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it." Emma's favorite verse. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 24, 2003 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Dow City, Iowa. Rev. Gordon Buchholz and Rev. Larry Lemke officiated the services and grave side rites held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap, Iowa. Sherry Ketelsen served as organist accompaniment for soloists Julie and Emmie Wood as they sang, "The Best Is Yet To Come"; Jodi and Katlyn Weinkauf as they sang, "This Is The Day The Lord Hath Made" and congregational hymns, "Just As I Am Without One Plea", "Be Still My Soul" and "Abide With Me". All grandchildren sang, "On Eagle's Wings".
All grandchildren, nieces and nephews were honorary pallbearers; granddaughters were casket bearers and serving as pallbearers were Michael McMinemee, Dennis Ohl, Ryan Ohl, Bill Lahr, Maynard Ohl, Jr., Randy Ohl, Mark Ohl and Jeff Lahr. The Huebner Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Emma (Schoenfeld) Christiansen (1896 - 1992)
Emma Christiansen was born on Jan. 24, 1896, the daughter of Fritz and Cecilia Geimer Schoenfeld. She died on Monday, Nov. 16, 1992 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison at the age of 96 years.Emma was born on a farm in Hanover Township, near Charter Oak and received her formal education in a rural school near her home and also in the Immanuel Lutheran School in Soldier Township where she was baptized a Christian and Confirmed in the Lutheran Faith.
After completing her education, Emma remained with her family for a few years before she was united in marriage to John F. Christiansen on Dec. 14, 1919 at the home of her parents in Soldier Township, by Pastor Ted Wolfram. The couple settled on the Schoenfeld family farm in Soldier Twp. where they remained until retiring from farming in 1945 and moved to Schleswig. They were blessed with the birth of four children. John died in October of 1945.
On June 2, 1982, Emma moved to the Eventide Nursing Home in Denison. Emma was a devoted and loving wife and mother who cared for the family she loved. She was always delighted to see her grandchildren with whom she shared a special affection and devotion. She occupied her free time with special hobbies that included caring for her numerous flowers, crocheting and other needle work. Other interest included her memberships in various clubs in the area.
She enjoyed her travels to Europe, Canada and Hawaii, and for several years, Emma, wintered in Texas and California. She was faithful to her Lord and Savior and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig and Immanuel's Ladies Aid and L.W.M.L.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents, Fritz and Cecilia Schoenfeld; her husband John on Oct. 21, 1945; four brothers: Fritz, Herbert, Arthur and Fred; three sisters: Frieda and Anna Schoenfeld and Bertha Friedrichsen; one great-grandson, Jason Adam Teut on Sept. 5, 1975; one half-sister, Mamie Strobach; three half-brothers , George Strobach, Joseph Prokosch and Henry Prokosch and one son-in-law, Delphin Bruhn on Jan. 5, 1972.
Survivors include four daughters: Arlene Teut and her husband Herbert of Mapleton; Evelyn Teut and her husband Donald; Betty Weifenbach and her husband Lester all of Schleswig; Marilyn Bruhn Neddermeyer and her husband Herman of Ute; 17 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, one step great-grandchild; one sister, Alma Clausen; one brother-in-law, Henry Christiansen both of Eventide in Denison and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 19, 1992, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, with Pastor Donald R. Wagner officiating the service and graveside rites held at the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "Abide With Me" and "I'm But a Stranger Here". Honorary pallbearers were Carol Weifenbach Woebke, Jean Weifenbach Robinson, Linda Weifenbach Russell, Nancy Teut Bielenberg, Diane Teut Merriman, Sandra Bruhn Gronau, Cynthia Teut Paulsen, Connie Teut Falline, Judith Teut Glover and Cheryl Teut Lantz. Pallbearers were: Reggie Bruhn, Randy Bruhn, David Teut, Dennis Teut, Deane Teut, Gray Teut and James Weifenbach. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Walter A. Huebner and Sons' Funeral Home in Schleswig.

Emma C. (Saggau) Otto (1894 - 1985)
Emma C. Otto was born on November 19, 1894 near Denison, Iowa the daughter of Martin and Caroline Jepsen Saggau. She died Sunday evening, November 17, 1985 at the eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, at the age of 90 years, eleven months, and twenty-eight days. Emma spent her formative years in Crawford County. She received her formal education in the Denison community schools.Emma was united in marriage to Barney Otto on June 28, 1916 in Denison. Together they made their home in Denison where Barney was employed by the U.S. Post Office. Barney died on March 21, 1982. Emma entered the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison on April 12, 1984 due to failing health.
Emma served as a past Matron of the Eastern Star, and past High Priestess of the White Shrine. She also served as Mother Advisor of Rainbow, and was active in activities at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison.
In addition to her parents and husband, Emma was preceded in death by two brothers, John Martin and Peter, and four sisters, Anna, Caroline, Marie, and Irene.
Survivors include one son Robert of Clintonville, Wisconsin, and two daughters Bette, Mrs. Stephen Schuyler of Bethesda, Maryland, and Marilyn, Mrs. Shelby Harbison of Springfield, Illinois. She is further survived by four grandchildren, Becky, Tom, Chris, and Peter, and two great grandchildren, Mathew Schultz and Angela Harbison, and one brother Bernie Saggau of Denison, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held On Thursday, November 21, 1985 at 10:30 a.m. at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Interment was in the Oakland Cemetery near Denison. The Rev. James D. Cobb officiated at the services and graveside rites. Mrs. Fred Rabe served as organist for the services. Prelude hymns for the services included In The Garden, The Old Rugged Cross, and How Great Thou Art. And Eastern Star service was held the evening before the services at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers for the services were Louis Miller, Harold Stender, Marcus Christiansen, Dr. David Tan Creti, Martin A. Tan Creti, and The Rev. Michael James Tan Creti. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Emma Emilie (Bohlmann) Gierstorf (1883 - 1976)
Mrs. Emma Emilie Gierstorf, born Bohlmann, was the daughter of Mr. Edward Bohlmann and his wife Augusta Mohr born January 25, 1883 in Morgan Township in Crawford County, Iowa and passed away on Saturday, May 15, 1976, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of 93 years, 3 months and 20 days.She was baptized into the Christian faith on March 6, 1893 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hanover Township. She was confirmed on April 11, 1897 in this same congregation. Mrs. Gierstorf was a life time member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church as well as a member of the Ladies Aid in which she served in various offices.
On October 15, 1913, she was married to William C. Gierstorf in St. Paul's Lutheran.

Emma Johanna (Popken) Haase (1893 - 1976)
Emma Johanna Popken Haase, daughter of Herman and Ernestine Lutz Popken, was born in Goodrich Township, Crawford County, on April 7, 1893, and died April 11, 1976, at Eventide at the age of 83 years and 4 days. Mrs. Haase was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith and attended rural schools.On April 5, 1916 she was united in marriage to Edward Haase. They settled on a farm near Denison. In 1943 they retired and moved to Denison. Mr. Haase died on April 24, 1954. Mrs. Haase was active in church work and in the Lutheran Ladies Aid. Due to ill health she entered Eventide where she has made her home for the past two and a half years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edward, and one brother, Arthur.
Survivors include her children, Vernon, Edmund, and Violet (Mrs. Virgil Boeck), all of Denison, thirteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one brother, Louie Popken of Boulder, Colorado, three sisters, Erna (Mrs. John Ruberg), Annie, (Mrs. Harry Rath) and Mrs. Elsie Thomsen, all of Denison, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 14, at the Zion Lutheran Church Denison, with Reverend Robert Maschke officiating. Pallbearers were Jerry Corbett, Kennis Boeck, Larry Boeck, Dwight Boeck, Steven Haase, and Terry Boeck. Interment was made in Oakland Cemetery with Huebner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Emma Louise Schultz, daughter of Johannes and Johanna Nieman Johannsen was born on a farm near Deloit, Iowa May 24, 1899 and died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa Tuesday, January 14, 1975 due to a prolonged illness, having attained the age of 75 years, 7 months and 21 days.Mrs. Schultz was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended rural schools and lived on the farm most of her life.
She was united in marriage to Walter Schultz of Kiron December 19, 1917 at Denison, Iowa. They made their home on a farm near Kiron, Iowa. To this union six daughters and two sons were born. Mr. and Mrs. Schultz retired to Kiron November, 1956. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary December 19, 1967. Due to ill health, they have made their home at Eventide Home for the Aged the past three years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Dorothy three brothers, Carl, Paul and Johann, and two sisters, Sena and Lena.
Survivors include her husband Walter; five daughters, Alice, Mrs. Fred Schramm of Odebolt, Erma, Mrs. Clarence Bielenberg of Schleswig, Velma, Mrs. Gayle Siebrecht of Odebolt, Ruby, Mrs. Clarence Friedrichsen of Kiron, and Verna, Mrs. Mervin Petersen of Kiron; two sons, Irvin of Kiron and Fred of Odebolt; 22 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Miss Minnie Johannsen. of Eventide Home for the Aged in Denison, Iowa, Mahel, Mrs. August Petersen of Denison, Iowa, and Mrs. Bertha Stone of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Family Prayer Service was held at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison at 8 p.m. Thursday evening, January 16. Funeral services were held Friday, January 17, 1975, at the St. John's Lutheran Church, Stockholm Township, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Robbin Tisdale officiating. Mrs, Robbin Tisdale served as organist and Mrs. Ralph Schultz and Mrs. Elroy Koch sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Asleep in Jesus". The following served as pallbearers: Kenneth Schramm, Larry Bielenberg, Roger Siebrecht, Dennis Schultz, Bruce Petersen and Neal Friedrichsen. Interment was made in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Stockholm Township.

Emma Maire (Nollen) Hast (1899 - 1998)
Emma Maire Hast was born November 28, 1899, the daughter of Frank and Annie Hulsebus Nollen. She died at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa on Thursday, April 16, 1998 at the age of ninety-eight.Emma was born in Defiance, Iowa and received her education at a rural school near her home. She was baptized in Christ on October 6, 1918 at Defiance, Iowa by Rev. H. W. Kalas and later confirmed on February 27, 1938 by Rev. E. E. Green.
She helped out at home, after the death of her mother, until her marriage to August Hast on February 19, 1919 at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage by Rev. William Freese. The couple settled in Buck Grove and were blessed with the birth of eight children. They also helped raid their sisters, Nellie Hoffmeier and Ida Bohm. The couple farmed near Buck Grove, later moving to Defiance. In 1958, they moved to Denison. Emma worked at the Community Cafe for several years, where she baked pies and donuts. After the couple retired, they managed the Grand Vue Cabins at Lake Okoboji, Iowa.
Emma was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who was a joy to visit and be around, always serving lunch to everyone. In her leisure time she enjoyed sewing, crocheting and other crafts. She also loved flowers, fishing and watching the birds and squirrels. Emma was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Denison and was a volunteer at the Denison Senior Center, where she and August were awarded the State of Iowa Governor Volunteer Award for 1986.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, August on January 10, 1995; two sons, August Jr. on December 7, 1985; Gayle LeRoy in infancy on December 13, 1919; three grandchildren, Joan Keairnes; Steven Mark Hast, Cathy Ann Hast; one brother, John Nollen; three sisters, Dorothy Didier; Blossom Bohm; and Nellie Hoffmeier.

Bohm of Denison.
Funeral services were held at 10 A.M., Monday, April 20, 1998 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa. Rev. Kurt Kaiser and Rev. Daniel Gifford officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for soloist, Henry Henningsen singing "How Great Thou Art" and "Just As I Am, Without One Plea" and congregational hymns "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" and "What a Friend We Have In Jesus". Honorary pallbearers were: Ricky Hollrah, Deborah Burk, Rynn Hollrah, Jerry Hollrah, Kim Hollrah and Terry Auen. Pallbearers were: Timothy Hast, Russell Stone, Troy Greder, Todd Greder, Larry Stone, Dean Hast, David Hast and Lynn Hast. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Evening Guild. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.

Emma Marie (Tedsen) Miller (1893 - 1976)
Emma Marie Tedsen Miller was born Dec. 4, 1893 in Goodrich Township of Crawford County, the daughter of Carl Tedsen and Trina Dittmar. She died May 28, 1976 in Battle Creek Hospital at the age of 82 years, 5 months, and 24 days.She attended the Rural County School of Goodrich Township, was a member of the Thursday Ladies Group and related to the United Church of Christ.
She was united in marriage to Charlie F. Miller Jan. 29, 1913 in the United Church of Christ, Schleswig. Two sons and one daughter were born to this union: Emma Edgington, Mapleton, Ralph Miller of Schleswig and Carl Miller of Mapleton.
Emma was a housewife. The first seven years of her married life were spent on a farm in Ida County. In 1920 she and her husband moved to a farm near Mapleton where they made their home until 1966, when they moved to Schleswig. In 1973 Emma and Charlie moved to the Willow-Dale Nursing Home of Battle Creek.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Mrs. Henry Stockfleth. She is survived by her husband, Charlie, who resides in the Willow-Dale Nursing Home, two sons, Carl of Mapleton, Ralph of Schleswig, one daughter, Emma Jean of Mapleton, 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Memorial services were held May 30 in Walters Chapel, Mapleton. Rev. Fred A. Moore, Pastor of Schleswig United Church of Christ, officiated. The commital service was in Morgan Township Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ray Miller, Eldred Gronau, Emmett Hollander, Ed Gosch, Ace Nelson, and Harold Stockfleth.

Emma (Quandt) Schneider (1893 - 1990)
Emma Schneider, the daughter of Herman and Albertina Meseck Quandt Sr., was born October 22, 1893 near Charter Oak, Iowa. She died May 15, 1990 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of 96 years.Emma grew up on a farm near Charter Oak and attended a rural school in Hanover Township. After her education, she assisted her brother Emil in his home.
Emma was united in marriage to Paul Schneider December 19, 1915 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover Township. Together this union was blessed with six children. After their marriage, Emma and Paul made their home on farms in Goodrich and Milford Township. Paul died in January 1949 and Emma continued to live on the farm until moving to Denison in 1964. She entered Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison in 1988 where she made her home until her death.
Emma was Baptized a Christian as an infant and later Confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover Township. She was a member of Zion Lutheran in Denison.
Preceding her in death were: her parents; her husband; one daughter, Esther Schneider; one son, Paul Schneider; one grandson; and one son-in-law, William Schneller.
Her survivors include her children: Martin Schneider and his wife Shirley of Denison; Rose Mae Schneller of Denison; Herman Schneider and his wife Edith of Denison; Emma and her husband Harold Riessen of Schleswig; one daughter-in-law, Jeannetta and her husband Cyrenus Knief of Deloit; twenty six grandchildren, thirty one great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Also surviving are; one brother, Herman Quandt of Denison and one sister-in-law, Alvena Quandt of Denison.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 18, 1990 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Pastor Kurt Kaiser officiated at the services with interment in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Denison. Mrs. Karene Kahl was organist and Mr. Henry Henningsen was soloist. The solo selection was "Rock of Ages". The Congregational Hymns were: "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "I'm but a Stranger Here". Serving as pallbearers were: David Schneider, Robert Schneller, Carol Korwes, Sharon Peters, Roland Schneider and Harry Riessen. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Walter A. Huebner and Sons' Funeral Service in Denison, Iowa.

Erna Katherine (Friedrichsen) Schmidt (1895 - 1986)
Erna Katherine Schmidt was born on December 13, 1895 in Otter Creek Township, Crawford County, Iowa the daughter of Martin and Anna Gottburg Friedrichsen. She died Sunday afternoon, February 23, 1986 at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, at the age of 90 years.Erna spent her childhood years on her family's farm in Otter Creek Township. She was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in the First Evangelical and Reformed Church in Schleswig. She received her formal education in the Otter Creek School No. 2.
Erna was united in marriage to John F. Schmidt on January 23, 1918 in Schleswig by Rev. Wetzler. Together they made their home on a farm in Otter Creek Township until retirement in 1946 when they made their home in Odebolt. In 1948 they moved to Schleswig. John and Erna celebrated fifty years of marriage in 1968. John died September 22, 1972. Erna continued to make Schleswig her home until spending the winter months at Eventide in 1974. She made Eventide her permanent residence in 1976.
In addition to her parents and husband, Erna was preceded in death by her brothers, Carl, John, Marvin, Fred, and Alfred, her sister Ella Wellendorf, and her sister Marguerite in infancy. Survivors included her sister, Violet Moeller, of Denison, a number of nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 1986 at 10:30 a.m. at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Interment was in the Morgan Cemetery near Schleswig. The Rev. Leon G. Triggs officiated at the services and graveside rites. Mrs. Fred Rabe served as organist for the services with Mr. Henry Henningsen serving as soloist. Hymns for the services included Just As I Am and In The Garden. Serving as pallbearers for the services were Robert J. Moeller, Richard Moeller, Charles Bandow, Leslie Friedrichsen, Herbert Wellendorf, and Daryl Miller. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.

Fay Arthur Woodruff (1894 - 1974)
Fay Arthur Woodruff, son of Bertram and Martha Campbell Woodruff was born March 9, 1894 on a farm in Goodrich Township, Crawford County Iowa.He was united in marriage to Louise Jensen on January 31, 1917 and they resided on the farm for 51 years. To this union was born one son, Harry.
During the time that Mr. and Mrs. Woodruff lived on the farm he was the Assessor for Goodrich Township and also the Sub rural mail carrier. In November of 1968 they moved to Denison to make their home.
Mr. Woodruff passed away at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital October 20, 1974 at the age of 80 years, 7 months and 11 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Harry and wife, Louise. He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Jennie Gillmor of Los Angeles, Calif., one brother Ralph of Ferris, Texas and other nieces and nephews and relatives. He has been a faithful communicate member of Zion Lutheran Church.
