Clinton Photos

The following photos and a wonderful story were sent to us by Warren Andresen of Richland, WA:

Nettie:

I am essentially the last of my family from Clinton.  I went into the service during WWII and went to college after that.  I have not been home much since.  When a family member died someone else cleaned up after them.

My sister married, had children and then died.  Her husband remarried.  He then died.  His second wife had an estate/garage sale.  None of us relatives knew anything about that sale.  Some stranger bought photo albums for 25 cents a piece.

My niece, Barbara Colschen, and her husband Warren Alan Rosst - the son of my sister - were living in Hong Kong at the time.  They were about to move back to the US when he died of pancreatic cancer.  Barbara came back and was in Florida for a time.

During that time, a relative of hers helped clean up a friend's home after he died.  During the clean-up, that person's widow came across two photo albums and said, "Who are these Andresen's and Colschen's?"  The person replied, "Why those are Bud's (Warren Alan Rosst's) family." -- the nephew that died in Hong Kong!  So, they kept the photo albums and gave them to Barbara.  When she was cleaning up to move to Des Moines some years later, she remembered that I was into the genealogy of our families and sent them to me.

Thus, the albums were essentially lost to us and came back through a quirk of fate.  Serendipity is "The happening upon fortunate discoveries when not in search for them."  Horace Walpole (1764).      Signed -- Andy

Horace must have know the Andresen's because he summed up Andy's story perfectly!  My wish is that serendipity strikes each of us, when we least expect it, of course <grin>  -- Net
