6 M v. Nicholas August JOHANNSEN was born on 22 Mar 1890 in Clinton, Iowa. He died on 16 Dec 1964. He was buried on 18 Dec 1964 in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Rock Falls, Illinois.  Nicholas married Ruth GROVE. Ruth was born on 20 Jun in Dixon, Lee, Illinois.

BURIAL: JENS JOHANNSEN SERVICES HELD - Private funeral services were held Thursday for Jen Johannsen, 81, who died Wednesday morning at Mercy Hospital, Clinton. Rev. Harley Stauffer, pastor of the West Sterling Mennonite church officiated and burial was in Riverside Cemetery. He was born Jan. 30, 1897 in Clinton, Iowa the son of Jens and Catherine Nissen Johnannsen. He resided in Sterling many years. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Melvin-Schilling Funeral Home.

Birthdate is listed as Oct 1873 however, the age is listed as 16, which would place the birthdate in 1883.

Bottom half of original telegram is torn and missing. GW. This telegraph from Harold Vernon Willcox informing his father Ora Glenn Willcox of Harold Jr's death, lists Ora's address as 918 6 Street,Mason City, Iowa.
43. STERLING DAILY GAZETTE , 15 Sep 1944. "Former Comrades Act as Pallbearers For Fred Johannsen
The body of Fred Johannsen, who was killed in Chicago Monday, arrived in Sterling Thursday at 12:30 and was taken to the Melvin funeral home, where the funeral was held this afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Harry E. Shiffer, pastor of the Rock Falls Christian church, officiating. The services were in charge of Burt E. Brown post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, John J. Connell, commanding. Past Commander H. W. Wiles was in charge of the services at Riverside Cemetery and Taps were sounded by Charles Van Gilder. Casket bearers were all comrades of Mr. Johannsen in Battery B, 129th F. A. during World war 1. They were Tony Terlizzi, Lt. H. A. Cullins, James Pittman, John Boyer, Waite Courtright and Otto Regilin. Color bearers were E. Drosti and Fred G. Allai. Color guards were Arthur McGinn and Mason Galt. Mrs. J. H. Linn, organist, played "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," and "In the Garden." Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Albert Jurkens, assisted by Mrs. James Glenn. Those from out of the city attending the funeral were Mrs. Mary Stewart (JOHANNSEN), Chicago; Mrs. Edith Witmer (JOHNANNSEN), Freeport; Chris Nissen, Mrs. Ida Thomas, Clinton, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wilson and family, Orangeville, Ill.; Mrs. Lance Cooper and daughter, Freeport; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wilcox and daughter Ruth, Mrs, Ida Fallon and Mrs. Ralph Hempel, of Chicago.
