Granville served in the Civil War on the Union side, as a private in Co C, 75th Infantry from Prophetstown, IL. He lived about 40 miles from Prophetstown and I don't believe he ever married. He enlisted 9 Aug 1862 At Prophetstown, IL, at the age of 23 years, and was listed as a farmer. He stood 5'7", had dark hair, blue eyes and had a dark complexion. His period of service was for 3 years and he was mustered out 12 June 1865.

WILLIAMS 27 February 1862 in Whiteside Co, IL. She died 26 June 1864. He married (2) FIDELIA OLMSTEAD 09 April 1865. She was born June 1832 in Canada, and died 31 August 1915 in Prophetstown, Whiteside Co, IL. 
 
Notes for EDWARD R. CONNER: 
Edward R. Conner served in Co. A of the 140th Regt, IL Vol Inf, same company as his brother, Jabez. He enlisted 19 May 1864, for 100 days; mustered out 29 Oct 1864 at Camp Fry, Chicago, Cook Co, IL. According to the muster roll for this company, Edward was 41 years old at the time he enlisted. He stood 5'8" tall, had brown hair, gray eyes and had a dark complexion. The family lived in the 37th District, Whiteside Co, IL at the time of the 1850 census; same county, Prophetstown, IL in 1860. 
 
J. V Allison, Minister of the Gospel, was the person who officiated at Edward and Betsey's marriage. His 1st wife, Betsey, died while he was in the service, during the Civil War. After her death, Edward 2/m Fidelia Olmstead. They were married by Russell T. Dickinson, Justice of the Peace. She had previously been married to Jonathan G. Olmstead and had a daughter, Ida, who married Mr. Post. 
 
Edward was a retired grocer at the time he applied for a pension. He had moved to Prophetstown from Sterling, IL.

He married ANNA MILAN 01 March 1876 in Dunlap, Harrison Co, IA, daughter of EDWARD MILAN and HANNAH RECORD. She was born 21 March 1852 in Bellevue, Jackson Co, IA, and died 23 August 1909 in Lyons, Clinton Co, IA. 
 
Notes for JABEZ W. CONNER: 
Jabez enlisted with the Union Army 19 May 1864 at Sterling, Whiteside Co, IL for service of 100 days. Mustered in at Camp Butler, IL 18 June 1864; discharged at Camp Fry, Chicago, Cook Co, IL 29 Oct 1864. Served in the 140th Regt, IL Vol. Inf, Co. A, in the rank of: Drummer - Musician. At the time of his enlistment he listed himself as a farmer, 18 years of age, 5' 5-1/2", light complexion, blue eyes, with light hair. 
 
His family lived in Prophetstown, Whiteside Co, IL. He had worked for the railroad and also was a house painter. Played the violin. 
 
Jabez and Anna were staying in the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Clark and Amanda Conner Reynolds, in Prophetstown, IL at the time of their son, John Houston's, birth. 
 
On the 1880 census, Jabez' mother, Catherine, age 75, is listed as living in their home. 
 
Jabez died from injuries received in a fall while painting. He fell, striking some sort of case on the way down, breaking a rib. This punctured his lung. His widow, filed for a pension due to his service in the Civil War. Stated that she did not have any marriage license as it had burned in a house fire.

Notes for JOHN HOUSTON CONNER: 
John Conner and Martha were married in the church parlor of the Evangelical Lutheran Zionskirche, Clinton, Iowa, 12 days before the birth of their first child. When asked about this Grandma Martha Conner said she didn't want to get married then but her mother insisted. She said that no grandchild of hers was going to be born without a marriage first. 
 
Jack, as his friends called him, worked for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad in Iowa, but moved to Los Angeles, CA in 1940, for health reasons. He then went to work for the Standard Oil Refinery in El Segundo, CA. This refinery was called El Segundo, Spanish for the second, as it was Standard's second refinery.

Martha's family immigrated to America from Germany 14 April 1882. Her mother was pregnant with her at the time so she was this family's first child born in America. She was baptized, in Clinton, IA, by Professor G. Fritschel, from Mendota, IL. 
 
After her father's death, she and her sisters sold milk door-to-door, from her family's cow. When her husband, Jack, was very sick she became a seamstress to bring in money. Was able to pay their house off in no time at all.

Harry was born in the Conner house at 408 Oak St, Clinton, IA. 
 
He was Asst. Manager of the J.C. Penney store in Bloomington, IL when he met Dorothy. She was a customer. They lived in Bloomington then, during World War II, he moved his family to California where they settled in Palms, Los Angeles Co. At that time he worked for Bechtel, at the El Segundo Refinery. In 1949, the family moved to West Los Angeles where they lived until he and Dorothy moved to a retirement community in Laguna Niguel, Orange Co, CA. 
 
Harry died after being diagnosed with lymphoma at the age of 86 yrs. Prior to his death he had lost a lot of weight and resembled his father, John H. Conner. They both bore a striking resemblance to Abraham Lincoln.
