Marquette High School Graduates
1925-1952
Students attended school in what was then North McGregor, in the 1860's. The first school was in a log school house and the patrons furnished chairs, tables, etc. The schoolmaster was A.J. Jordan. The earliest Marquette (North McGregor) school records that have been found are teachers' records from 1861. The first official records of the board of education are dated August 1867. George Keen was then president; W.W. Wheeler, vice president; George Spangler, secretary; and A.T. Lipe, treasurer of the board. Directors were: John Moshman, Henry Rienow and Andrew Scheckner, in addition to George Keen and W.W. Wheeler.
When the school year 1924-25 opened, the first four year high school started in the new school at Marquette. Five were graduated the first year. The new school building was built on the site of an old foundry, established in 1858 by John Thompson and George Keen.
The Marquette High School continued until 1952, when Marquette and McGregor schools merged.
