The horse thieves must look sharp ! At a regular meeting of the Garnavillo Horse Thief Detective Association, held June 10th, 1878, the following officers were elected:

The annual meeting of the Garnavillo Horse Thief Association was held at Turner Hall, Garnavillo, May 14th, 1883, and elected the following officers for the ensuing term:
President - J. H. Kuenzel.
Vice- President - Fred Kann.
Secretary - Helmuth Brandt.
Treasurer - J. H. Tangemann.
Captain - C. J. Strickfort.
Lieutenant - Henry Brandt.
Riders - Aug. Oelke, Henry Hill, Wm. Beck, J. Uriell, H. Schaefer, Fred Schumacher, Fritz Bruns, Ludwig Mueller, Wm. Mallering and H. Ruter.

At a meeting of the Garnavillo Horse Thief Detective Association the following officers were elected for the ensuing year:
President - J.H.. Kuenzel
Vice president - Fred Kann
Secretary - Helmuth Brandt

Captain - C.G. Stickford
Lieutenant - Henry Brandt
The society was organized in 1870, for the purpose of rendering assistance to its members in case any of them loose horses by theft, and to its credit be it said that not a horse has been stolen in this neighborhood since it was organized.

The Garnavillo Horse Thief Detective Association held its meeting at the Turner hall on Monday, May 22nd, and elected the following officers for the ensuing year:

Treasurer - Henry Dettmer
Captain - C.G. Stickfort
Lieutenant - C.W. Schumacher
Riders, as follows: Julius Pufahl, H.W. Fritz, E.W. Kregel, Wm. Beck, W.A. Tangemann, J.F. Schumacher, F. Wilker, Hy. Schumacher, Hy. Mueller and Chas. Schulte.
A very enthusiastic meeting was held, over fifty members were present.

Lieutenant - C.W. Schumacher
Riders - Julius Pufahl, H.W. Fritz, E.W. Kregel, W.A. Tangeman, J.F. Schumacher, F. Wilker, Henry Schumacher, Henry Mueller, Chas. Schulte and George Kuhlman.
There are about $185 in the treasury.

Notice of Annual Meeting
The annual meeting of the Garnavillo Horse Thief Association will be held at Garnavillo at the Council rooms on Monday, June 1, at one o'clock p.m. for the election of officers and the transaction of such business as may come before the meeting. All members are reuested to be present.

Hook & Ladder Company Organized
The citizens of Garnavillo have organized a Hook & Ladder Company for protection against the fire fiend. The following officers were elected:
Foreman - Eugene Barnes
1st Assistant - J. W. Hudson
2nd Assistant - H. Limbech
Sec. - J. H. Tangeman
Treas. - L. C. Meyer
They intend to erect a building 12 X 30 on the east side of the public square for storing the truck, ladders, etc. A ball will be given in Turner Hall on the evening of Dec. 26th, the proceeds to be devoted to the benefit of the above company.
