John F. Wahls

John F. Wahls, son of John and Steina (Bolton) Wahls, natives of Mecklenburg, Germany, was born in that country in 1820. He emigrated to the United States in 1852, and three years later came to Clayton County and located on his prsent farm on sections 20 and 21, Farmersburg Township. It consists of 950 broad and fertile acres, nearly under excellent cultivation, and is one the largest and finest farms in Clayton County. They deal extensively in fine stock. In 1846 he married Katherine Wellner. To them were born two children - John and Fritz, both deceased. Mrs. Katherine Wahls died in New Orleans, and in 1855 Mr. Wahls married Mary, daughter of E. and Mary Jacobs, nee Easaulote, who were natives of Germany, and came to the United Sates in 1853, locating in Clayton County. Four children have blessed this union, viz.: Henry, born Apr. 30, 1876, is now married and resides on the old homestead. He has the entire charge of the farm and is making a fine success of it. Mary, born Mch. 9, 1862; Bertha, June 13, 1865, and Lewis, Dec. 15, 1871. The family are members of the Lutheran church, and in politics Mr. Wahls votes the Republican ticket.
