A. V. Palmer was born in Pennsylvania on May 23, 1851. He came to Clayton County in September, 1864. He has been principally engaged in the livery business and in staging since his arrival here. He has fifty miles of staging from West Union to Postville by way of Elkader. He has recently purchased a nice houseon section 17, on the Elkader and West Union road. He was married to Emma Nidlock on Aug. 24, 1875. She was born in Allamakee County, Ia., June 23, 1851. They have three children--Sophrona, born July 3, 1876; Emmet LeRoy, Nov. 2, 1878, and Margaret Luella, born Apr. 20, 1881. In politics Mr. Palmer is a Republican.
