Christian Beck was born in Bavaria, Germany, Dec. 17, 1845. He was the son of Simon Beck, a native of Germany. Christian's mother died when he was six years old. His father emigrated to America in 1852, and settled in Clayton County, Iowa. Christian came to Iowa and remained with his father on a farm fifteen years, after which he learned the blacksmith's trade. He was married in 1870 to Anna Ledin, who was born in Hamburg, Germany, and now has three children, of whom two are living— Edward and Jennie. William is deceased.
