Shayla |
The Mission is to help responsible, working class families with a Child in Medical Crisis.
Shayla Kaye Rohrbaugh was born on December 4, 1998 with a condition called Schizencerphaly, a condition where the brain does not develop normally. Her 6 year battle was an inspiration to her family and all who loved and cared for her. Her 18 year old Mother went from a troubled single mom to a 24 hour a day, seven day a week caregiver, and her devotion to Shayla was true inspiration. It is baffling how a special needs child can have such a profound impact on so many lives, but she did. Shayla died on January 8, 2005 leaving behind a little brother, Aydan, and a little sister, Isabel. The Shayla Bee Fund is a living memorial to Shayla.
In October, 2006, nearly two years after Shayla's death, her life was an inspiration to help another family who had an 18 year old son with cancer. The Gilmore Family Support Rally was as much about showing the family how many people were praying for them as it was about helping financially. Shayla's courage is a legacy that has again inspired her family and friends to help other families with a child in crisis through the Shayla Bee Fund.
Most of the revenue comes from event based fundraising and voluntary donations. As of July, 2018, they have distributed over $550,000.00 to 157 Shayla Bee Families. At the end of 2022 they have helped 241 families. Shayla Bee is a 501c Non-Profit Organization.
Shayla Bee assists with medical and travel expenses, home modifications, funeral expenses, volunteer services and many other needs. Families are nominated.
Mini Bees are children who want to Bee the change they want to see in the world. They are children willing to put themselves in other's shoes to help however children can.
Shayla Bee continues to visit families and keep up with progress. Shayla Bee is available to the families any time they need to talk or feel they don't know where to turn.
