William Bell (1821-1907) — Louisa Darnold Bell (1822-1900) From Troy, Ohio. Grandfather and Grandmother Bell built first log cabin and were the first white settlers of Troy township, Clarke Co., Ia. Named Troy township after their home town, Troy, Ohio. Occupation farmers, livestock, and grain. They secured the meat contract from Chariton to Creston from the Burlington Railroad, for the railroad employees through Mr. H. C. Seigler and Mr. Mallory who surveyed and platted the town site of Murray, Iowa. The Burlington Railroad had located a warehouse at Murray in 1867 near the Burgus Oil Co. Bulk plant. Chas. Howig, son of Robert M. Howig, one of Murray's early Harness Makers. His home was located one block east of the Murray Methodist Episcopal Church. (Home of Floyd Frey). His shop was located first door north of the Bennett Feed Store and is now removed.

Bell (1864-1954) — Cora Robinson Bell (1867-1959) Occupation, farmers, livestock, and grain. They bought and sold livestock for Bell and Mickle. They served on Methodist Church Board and Treasurer of the Murray Pucheon Horse Co. They had four children, all living as follows: Wm. R., Florence, Ralph M., and Eunice M. Johnson. Ulysses and Cora lived on the farm from 1891-1931 and in Murray from 1931-1954. |
