The
First Regiment Iowa Volunteers was
opposed of independent military
companies organized before the war
began, and enlisted for three months.
It is said that Capt. Herron and his
company tendered their services to the
Secretary of War three months before the
commencement of hostilities. This
regiment was engaged at Wilson’s Creek,
under Gen. Lyon, and lost ten killed and
nearly fifty wounded.
