Hugh Ferguson
4th Iowa Cavalry Company A

Hugh Ferguson's was mustered into service with the 4th Iowa Cavalry
October 16, 1864 for a period of three years. He was discharged June 7, 1865 at Clinton, Iowa.
Tradition states that Hugh had a horse shot out from under him, and other sources suggest he
was held prisoner at Andersonville for six months.
Hugh was born February 4, 1835 in Schuylerville, New York. After the war, he married Mary May SAFELY on February 2, 1882, in Tipton,Iowa. Hugh died July 15, 1906 and is buried in Niblett Bluff Cemetery, Vinton, Louisiana. |
