Cornell University's Making of America
Cornell University has put the "War of the Rebellion," (a compilation of the official records of the Union and Confederate armies) online, as a part of the "Making of America" (MOA) Project. A searchable index is available. Actual page images are displayed.
Ancestry.com members can search for their Civil War ancestors, or look up the history of a Civil War unit in the Civil War Research Database. You can also access the Civil War Research database directly at http://www.civilwardata.com.

State Historical Society of Iowa
The society has numerous holdings of Civil War material about Iowa soldiers, including diaries, letters, papers and photos. The State of Iowa Adjutant General for the Civil War are housed at the Des Moines archives. Information in these records include enlistment reports, camp reports, casualty reports, etc.
