Mrs. Minnie Riggs Dies at 89 From Fall

Funeral services were held at the Chenoweth and Son Funeral Home,  Saturday,  August 31, for Mrs. Minnie A. Riggs, 89.  She fell at her home Tuesday evening and was taken to Iowa City hospitals where she died Wednesday morning.
Rev. W. W. De Bolt officiated at the 2 o'clock services and burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua, Iowa.  Mrs. F. L. Hanscom accompanied Marjorie, soloist.
Mrs. Pearl Bonzer and Mrs. Clara Thomas were the flower committee.  Casket bearers were Dale Coates, George Bonzer,  Porter Hinmon, Frank Richards, Clarence Storing, and Charles Pierce.
Minnie Amy Riggs, was born in Waverly,  January 4, 1868 and passed away August 28, 1957, at Iowa City at the age of 89 years,  seven months, and 24 days.
She was the daughter of Seth and Sarah Ann Thompson, being the youngest of 12 children - eight daughters and four sons - all of whom preceded her in death.
She was united in marriage to Marvin L. Riggs on her birthday,  January 4, 1887. To this union were born two sons,  Calvin of Panama City, Fla., and Ivan of Nashua.  Those who honor her memory are 11 grandchildren,  27 great-grandchildren,  and four great - great- grandchildren. 
She and her husband lived in the Six Mile Grove neighborhood until 1911 at which time they moved to Nashua.  They moved to their present home in December, 1913.  Her husband preceded her in death,  February 19, 1933.
Among those from away who attended the services for Mrs. Minnie Riggs were Mr. and Mrs. Calvin E. Riggs, Panama City, Fla.,  Mr. and Mrs. Morris Riggs, Belle Plaine, Iowa,  William B. Riggs, Charles City, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Rutter, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Strohm and Gary and Ronnie Riggs, Waterloo,  and Laura R. Franklin, Mt. Pleasant.  The visitors also spent several days here, with old neighbors and friends.

Mrs. Robinson Dies of Stroke Sunday Morn.
Funeral at Jerico Lutheran Church Tuesday P. M.
A well known resident of this county, Mrs. Louis Robinson, passed away at
her home in the Jerico community after a brief illness, leaving a large group of relatives and close friends, as her entire life had been spent in this county. Where ever the Louis Robinson family located they were welcome residents, always held in the highest esteem, in every locality in which them lived.
Monday afternoon the remains were taken from the Larkin Chapel to her
home where Rev. M. Otto held a short service of prayer before leaving her home for the Jerico Lutheran Church, where the funeral services were conducted by her Pastor at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday. Interment was in the parish cemetery, her pallbearers being Harold Munson, Oscar Anderson, Alfred Robinson, Henry Knutson, James Anderson James Roberson.
A brief sketch of her life is thus given by her pastor. Mrs. Gurina Robinson, wife of Louis A. Robinson, was permitted to enter into her eternal rest this last Sunday morning, ending her life's pilgrimage of 67 years, 7 months and 11 days.
Mrs. Robinson, the daughter of Ole and Anna Anderson, was born on January 4th, 1879, in Jacksonville Township, Chickasaw County, Iowa. She was baptized by the Rev. J. Moses, and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. Ness. Her secular education was received in the rural schools of this community.
On 12 April 1904, Gurina Anderson was united in holy matrimony with Mr. Louis A. Robinson, at Saude, Iowa by Rev. J. Rugland. To this union were born two sons and four daughters. Throughout her life she was a devoted member of her church, and active in it's Ladies' Aid organization. Mrs. Robinson was in seemingly good health, about her usual work, until last Friday noon, August 16, when she suffered a severe stroke, which caused her death on sunday morning, August 18th, 1946, shortly after 10:00 o'clock, at her home. Her husband, together with her children were all present at the time she passed away.
Her departure is mourned by her husband, Louis A. Robinson; her six children: Alvie of Elma, Selma (Mrs. Paul Landsverk) of Waterloo, Olive (Mrs. Ed Thompson) also of Waterloo, Laurine (Mrs. Cletus Anderson) of Lawler, and Annetta and Homer at home, four grandchildren; a sister Mrs. Anna Johnson of Elma, and a brother James Anderson of New Hampton, besides a large number of more distant relatives.

Lydia S. Rowley was born in Steuben Co. New York. She moved with her parents, George and Charity Rowley, to Michigan, when a child, and later they moved to Fayette, Ia., where she was married Nov. 25, 1850, to John W. Johnson who preceded her to the better land April 8, 1900. From Fayette they moved to Bradford and later to the farm near Bassett in 1854 where she died July 27, 1912.
She leaves to mourn her loss one sister, Mrs. Laura Ressler of Shellrock, Ia., and two brothers, George R. Rowley of Waterloo and Amos O. Rowley of Wilke, Ia. She was the mother of eight children of whom Effie, the youngest, died when two and one-half years of age. The surviving children are Mrs. Elizabeth C. Blunt and J. Lewis Johnson, both of Charles City, Mrs. Elvira R. Gault of Bassett, Mrs. Elfrada E. Thomas of Ionia, Mrs. Charlotte C. Augustine of Cedar Rapids, and George and Ey, who are living at home. She is mourned by a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the M.E. Church and professed religion over sixty years ago and has been a true christian women in deed and thought.
