Old Settler Dies.
Mrs. Hiram Hall died Friday morning at 1a.m., Feb. 23, 1912, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. E. Wright, in Ionia.
Lenora Oliver was born near Plattsburg in Clinton county, New York, Jan. 13, 1828, where she grew to womanhood. August 16, 1849, she was united in marriage to Hiram Hall, of that place. Seven children were born to this union, three of whom survive her, Darwin Hall and Mrs. Cora Howdeshell, of Minneapolis, and Mrs. Amelia Wright, of Ionia, where she has made her home since last June. Also one step daughter, Mrs. Matilda Green, of Monona, Iowa.
In 1866 they came with their family to Nashua, Iowa, where they resided until 1902, when they moved to Minneapolis, where her husband died July 25, 1804 [sic]. Since that time she has made her home with her two daughters, Mrs. Howdeshell and Mrs. Wright.
The funeral was held at the home Sunday at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. Will Kirwin, of Nashua, and the remains were taken to the Oak Hill cemetery at Nashua for burial by the side of her husband and other loved ones gone before.

Editor Note:Hiram Hall Death Date should be 1904. The referenced Darwin Hall is Darwin S. Hall. Darwin R. Hall is the son of John S. Hall.

MRS. AUGUSTA OLNEY

7 November 1901

Mrs. Augusta Olney, of Carrville, died last Friday night, Nov. 1, aged 65 years. She was the mother of a large family of children, all of whom were with her with the exception of a son and daughter. A husband also survives. The funeral was held from the school house in Carrville Sunday, Rev. J. A. Abbott conducting the services. The interment was at Charles City.

G. R. Olney Dies from Accident
G. R. Olney a former resident of Bradford, died at St. Francis hospital in Waterloo Tuesday, Feb. 28, following an accident, the details of which we take from the Waterloo Courier:
R. R. Olney, 56, lifelong resident of Iowa, died at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday in St. Francis hospital of shock and injuries suffered when his left leg was crushed by a limb from a tree he was trimming at the home of his son, Edward Olney, Jesup, Iowa.
The limb cut by Olney, who was in the tree, pinned him against the trunk of the tree, crushing his leg. He was brought to the hospital yesterday afternoon.
He was born July 19, 1871, in Floyd county, and had resided in that county and in Nashua until a year ago, when he went to Jesup to make his home with his son. He married Miss Clara Clark at Nashua many years ago. On Oct. 30, 1922, he married Dianthe Melissa Waters, who survives him.
Surviving besides his widow are three children, Mrs. Mabel Betts, 525 Logan avenue; Edward Olney, Jesup, and Irving Olney, Jesup, and three grandchildren. Two children preceded him in death.
The body was brought to Nashua Monday and funeral services were held at Lundt's undertaking parlors, at 1:30, Rev. A. Raymond Grant officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill cemetery.

Services For John Olson On Saturday

John A. Olson, 85, former Watertown Resident, died Wednesday in a Watertown hospital. He had been living in Lake Preston recently.

The funeral will be Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in the Congregational Church with the Rev. A. R. Tinge officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Mathiesen, Gergen, Rhodes and Wight Chapel from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon and after 1 p.m. at the church.

Mr. Olson was born Feb. 28, 1886, in New Hampton, Iowa, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ambert Olson. As a child, he came to South Dakota with his parents. On Jan. 29, 1922, he married Bessie Cook at Watertown.

He was a member of the Congregational Church, a veteran of World War I and a member of Codington County Post No. 17 of the American Legion. Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Violet Olson, St. Bonifacius, Minn., and Mrs. Robert (Stella) Ostrander, Watertown; two sons, Harold H. Olson, Sacramento, Calif., and John L. Olson, Watertown; two sisters, Mrs. Christina Pierce, Paradise, Calif., and Mrs. Julia Peters, Bauman, N.D.; one brother, Ed Olson, Benicia, Calif.; 29 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

KNUT OLSON (1846 - 1925)

Another old settler of this section has left the sorrows and miseries of this world. Knut Olson who resided two miles east and one mile south of Jerico died at the home of his son Ole K. Oleson on Saturday, Nov. 14. His death was due to old age. He had always been a healthy man until this year.
Knut Olson was the son of Ole and Carrie Olson and was born at Jostedalen, Norway, June 15, 1846. He came to this country in 1868 and settled on a farm near Reilly Settlement. In 1870 he was married to Martha Johnson at the Saude Parsonage and to this union four children were born of whom three survive, namely Ole K. Olson of  Saude, John K. Olson of Michigan and Mrs. Caroline Lawrence of  California.
He was a member of the Lutheran Church and a friendly and pleasant man. He did his work well and raised a family which is a credit to him. His funeral was held at the Jerlco Lutheran Church, Rev. Tjernael officiating. Burial was made in the cemetery by the church.

Rites Thursday At Crane Creek For J. Otteson

Funeral services for James T. Otteson, 70, were held on Thursday, May 20, from Crane Creek Lutheran Church. Pastor David Stewart officiated.
Mr. Otteson died Monday, May 17, at 9:30 a. m., in the Waukegan Pavilion Nursing Home where he had been cared for the past two months. Prayer services were held at the Waukegan Funeral Home at 1:30 p. m. on Wednesday.
At the 2 p. m. services here Thursday, organist, Ole Sanderson accompanied soloist, Mrs. Halvor Nelson who sang "Still, Still With Thee," and "Behold A Host Like Mountains Bright".
Mrs. John O. Gordon, Charles City and Mrs. Art Sjobakken, New Hampton, had charge of the flowers. Larkin - Martin Funeral Service had charge of the arrangements. Casket bearers were Carlton Landswerk, Cresco, John Gordon, Charles City, Leonard Steinmetz, Jr., Cresco, Arthur Gordon, Madison, Wisconsin, Harold Steinmetz, Cresco and Art Sjobakken, New Hampton. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
James Otteson was the son of Otto and Sigrid (nee Attleson) Otteson. He was born Dec. 10, 1894 near Jerico in Jacksonville Township, Chickasaw county. He was baptized and confirmed in the Crane Creek Lutheran Church and on July 25, 1918 , he was married to Amanda Malheim at Crane Creek by the Rev. C. P. Heltne.
Two children were born to this union, Leona, who preceded him in death at the age of 14 and Shirley, Mrs. James Ackley, Jr. of Mundelien, Ill. His wife died in 1952.
He married Mrs. Alma Ballard at Waukegan in December of 1954. Besides his wife and daughter, he is survived by four grandchildren, Scott, Dawn, Rebecca and Kathleen Ackley at Mundelien, also two stepdaughters, several step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren of the Chicago area; three brothers, Henry, Santa Rosa, Calif.; Oscar; Osage, and Olaf, St. Paul, Minn; three sisters (Anna) Mrs. Edward Gordon of Crane Creek; Mrs. Leonard (Sigrid) Steinmetz, Cresco, and Mrs. Floyd Munson (Tomena) of Crane' Creek.
He was preceded in death by his patents, wife Amanda, daughter Leona, three sisters, Bertha, Mrs. Theodore Landswerk; Carrie, Mrs. R. O. Sjobakken, and Martha Otteson and two brothers. Oscar and Andrew. Mr. Otteson was a carpenter by trade. He attended the rural schools in this area. Following his first marriage he farmed for several years here and in North Dakota. Moving to Waukegan in 1924 he followed the carpenter trade until 1956. He suffered with Parkinson's disease for several years.
He was a member of the Crane Creek Lutheran Church and at Waukegan be was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was active in church affairs.

OLGA (OLSON) OTTESON

Funeral Services For Mrs. Andrew Ottelson, 45, Wednesday. Died Sunday from Heart Disease. Funeral Services at Crane Creek Lutheran Church

Mrs. Andrew Otteson, age 46 years, 9 months and 4 days, died Sunday, February 13 at 12:25 at her farm home 6 miles north of New Hampton. Death followed an illness of seven days with heart disease and other complications.
Olga Redina Olson was born on a farm in Jacksonville township May 9, 1892, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ole I. Olson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and has been a member of the Crane Creek church all her life. She was educated in the rural schools of her home community.
She was married to Andrew G. Otteson at the Crane Creek parsonage April 8, 1915. After their marriage they moved to the farm which has since been her home. Three children were born to them, Gilbert, 20, Olga, 18, and Arthur, 9, all at home.
Mrs. Otteson had been in poor health for a number of years but was always, cheerful, ready at any time to do an act of kindness. She was a devoted wife and mother, a good neighbor and friend.
Besides her husband and children she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Ole I. Olson and a sister, Clara Olson of New Hampton, a half sister, Susie Thompson of Duluth, a half brother, Ole I. Olson of Artesian, South Dakota, and other relatives and many friends who mourn her death. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1: 00 o'clock from the home and 2:00 o'clock at. the Crane Creek Lutheran church with Reverend FInstad In charge. A quartet sang at the home and at the church. Burial was in the cemetery adjoining the church.
Her coffin was born by Clarence Gordon, John Gordon, Olaf Throndson, Herbert, Lee, Oliver Lee and Louis Hopperstad. Reverend C. P. Helne of Spring Grove, Minnesota, came to attend the funeral.
Our deepest sympathy is extended to the family of Mrs. Otteson.

SIGRID (ATTLESON) OTTESON

OBITUARY: Mrs. Sigrid Otteson 69, Died Thursday At Jerico.
CRANE CREEK: Mrs. Sigrid Otteson, age 69 years, 2 months and 15 days, died at her home in Jerico on Thursday evening February 17, at 6:15. Several days before her death she suffered a paralytic stroke which was followed by pneumonia. Mrs. Otteson remained conscious until death took her. Sigrid Attleson was born December , 2, 1868, to Jens and Karl Attleson in this county, which has always been her home. Her education was received in the rural schools.

She married Otto Otteson October 24, 1885, at New Hampton and they made their home on a farm in the vicinity of Jerico, which continued to be her home until her death. Eleven children were born to this union, eight or whom survive their mother. Her husband preceded her in death nearly twelve years ago. Three daughters, Mrs.Theo Landswerk (Bertha), Mrs. R. O. Sjobakken (Carrie), and Martha, and one son Oscar, also preceded her in death. Her living children were all at her bedside when she passed away.

Mrs. Otteson was a life-Iong member of the Crane Creek Lutheran church and an active and Interested worker in the Ladles Aid Society. She was a devoted mother and a sincere Christian and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She Is survived by her aged mother, Kari Attleson, 89, of Lawler; three daughters, Mrs. E. B. Gordon (Anna) of Jerico, Mrs. L. W. Steinmetz (Sigrid) of Cresco, Mrs. Floyd Munson (Tomena) of Lawler; five sons, Jens T. of Waukegan. Illinois, Andrew of Jerico, Henry of Seattle Washington, Oscar and Olaf of Jerico; three sisters. Mrs. Andrew Johnson of Jerico, Mrs. B. S. Vlkdal of Saude and Mrs. Knute Peterson of New }lamp-"'" ton, three brothers, Ed Attleson and, !)",.'; Henry Attleson of Jamestown, North Dakota, and John Attleson of New' Hampton; twenty-six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, February, 21. at 1 :00 o'clock at the home and 2:00 o'clock at the Crane Creek Lutheran church with Reverend H. M. Finstad in charge. A quartet sang "What a Friend we have in Jesua" at home, and "Jesus Pilot Me"' and "Jesus Lover of My Soul" at the Church service.

Her coffin was borne by Walter and OrvIn Sjobakken of New Hampton, Carlton Landswerk of Cresco, John and Arthur Gordon of Cresco, and 0liver Otteson of Jerico, six of her grandsons. BurIal was made in the Crane Creek cemetery. A large group of relatives and friends attended the funeral and several donations were made to the Lutheran church in her memory.
