January 28, 1931 JIM JOHNSON DIED FROM HEART ATTACK James Johnson, the brick and stone mason, died at his home in New Hampton, Thursday morning, January 23, 1931. Death was due to enlargement of the heart (myocarditis). He had been sick but a week. The deceased was born in Dane County, Wisconsin, July 1, 1862. He was married on January 6, 1886, to Miss Nellie Olson. To this union five children were born, two of whom died His funeral services were held on Monday afternoon from the Crane Creek Lutheran Church, and burial was in that parish cemetery. Services were conducted by the pastor, Reverend H. O. Finstad. Jim Johnson was a fine old man and many are sorry that he has been called from earth. He was a man of good habits, moral character, sturdy constitution and he continued to be active in his accustomed pursuits, that of stone mason, brick laying, plastering and cementing, after the usual age men ordinarily drop out of the ranks of the workers. We mourn with his family and to his wife and children and other relatives we extend sincere sympathy. 9 February 1927 Louis Johnson Dies Suddenly Louis Johnson, for more than 40 years a resident of this community passed away suddenly at his home north of town at the noon hour on Monday, the summons coming almost without warning while he was conversing with his sister. Louis Johnson, son of Rev. and Mrs. H. C. Johnson, was born at Dallas City, Ill., July 28, 1869 and later moved to Carthage, Ill. In 1883 he came to Iowa, where he spent the remainder of his life. After the death of his parents he and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Neubauer and Miss Kate Johnson remained in the home in the west part of town for several years. About nine years ago they sold their home and moved to a farm and since that time have lived in the country near Nashua. A few years ago Mrs. Neubauer passed away, leaving Louis and his sister Kate to carry on alone. Deceased has been afflicted for the past few years with enlargement of the heart, which was the cause of his sudden demise. He was known as a man of integrity and true worth and in the years he had dwelt among us had won many true friends who were shocked and pained to hear of his passing. He is survived by two sister, Miss Kate Johnson of Nashua, and Mrs. Ella Mommer of Traer, and by nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Episcopal church. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at the M. E. church, Rev. Raymond Grant officiating. Interment will be at Oak Hill cemetery. Contributed by Misti Adams |

A short time ago she submitted to a very serious operation for a tumor of the stomach, hoping that it would improve her health, but she grew steadily worse. Everything possible was done for her but her sickness did not respond to treatment. Nellie Olson was born in Norway, February 2, 1865. When a very On January 6, 1886, she became the bride of James Johnson of New Hampton, who died January 22, 1931. Besides her children she is survived by one grandson, James, of Columbus, Ohio. Following her marriage the family lived on a farm near New Hampton, later moving to this city. Mrs. JOHNSON was a member of the Crane Creek Lutheran church. She was a faithful worker in the Women's Relief corps of this city. She was a devoted wife and mother, a kind neighbor and a true friend. JAMES JOHNSON We extend our deepest sympathy to all who mourn the death on Mrs. Johnson. In the passing of Mrs. James Johnson we feel the loss of an estimable woman, neighbor and friend whose kind words and deeds endeared her to all with whom she met. Her cheerful conversation was always an uplift to Mrs. Mills. Mrs. Johnson was at all times just her self "Nellie", a person of rare integrity. For more than a half century we have heartily enjoyed "Nellie" as best of friends. Mills family. Again the Master beckoned and one of our faithful sisters heard the call and gently her spirit winged its way to Him who gave it. She was faithful to every trust and down through the years her untiring labor in behalf of the Relief corps will stand as a monument to her memory. The tender sympathy of this Women's Relief corps, A.P. Morton post, No 69, is extended to her sons and daughter. Not dead, but only promoted. She has entered the Order above, And there 'neath the smiles of the Master, She will finish her labors of love. The next regular meeting of the corps will be Tuesday, July 14th. --Mable Thorson, Press Cor. See Nellie Oleson Pedigree Chart and the Johnson-Oleson Family Group Record Contributed by Jim Johnson |
