250 Feliciated Fred Plautzes on Golden Anniversary - Mr. Mrs. Fred Plautz celebrated their 50th anniversary Sunday, September 19, with an open house at St. John Lutheran church. Hosts were their children, Mr. Mrs. Raymond (Kathleen) Jakel, Mr. Mrs. Kenneth (Berniece) Wolf, and Howard Plautz. More than 250 signed the guest book. 150 family, relatives and close neighbors enjoyed a buffet supper at 6:30 the same evening in the social hall of the church. Relatives came from Illinois, Nebraska, Minnesota, Kansas, South Dakota and Iowa.

42-INCH CABBAGE - The Maynard Kienast family of Indianola recently harvested a head of cabbage weighing 22 pounds with a 42 inch circumference.

45 Signed up to Date for Brownies; More are Invited - The first, second and third grade troops met at the Lutheran church for their first meeting Monday, September 13. Our first meeting consisted of getting to know the girls by playing games. The third grade leaders are Mrs. Nancy Hallbach and Anne Fosse. The second grade leaders are Mrs. Linda Haut and Mrs. Bobbi Rowe. The First grade leaders are Mrs. Barb Lumley and Mrs. Pam Lumley. We had approximately 45 girls sign up for Brownies. Any girl still interested in joining may do so.

95 Sign up for Girl Scout Unites; Leaders Named - Nashua Girl Scout leaders had 94 girls sign up for scouts this year at registration held September 9. The first, second and third grade Brownies meetings are Mondays from 3:30 to 4:30. Brownie leaders are Mrs. Richard Lumley, Mrs. Leland Lumley, Mrs. Larry Haut, Mrs. Gary Rowe, Miss Ann Fosse, and Mrs. Steven Halbach. Brownies meet at St. John Lutheran church. Fourth, fifth and sixth grade Junior Scouts meet at St. Michael's Parish Center on Mondays from 3:30 to 5. Leaders are Mrs. Priscilla Betsinger. Mrs. Dianne Roethler, Mrs. Jerry Wad, and Miss Rhonda Fisher. Cadette Scouts, seventh and eighth grade, meet at the Methodist activity building on Monday. The leader is Mrs. Jim Jones. A Senior Scout troop is being organized under the leadership of Mrs. Larry Bean. Leaders attended an age level training session at Charles City September 21.

Baby Talk - A daughter was born to Mr. Mrs. Jeff Edson September 21 at the Charles City hospital. She weighed eight pounds and two ounces and was given the name, "Lisa Ann". Grandparents are Mr. Mrs. Virgil Edson and great-grandparents are Mr. Mrs. Owen Edson and Mrs. Ray Muench. Maternal grandparents are Mr. Mrs. Raymond Garbes; great-grandmother is Mrs. Fred Garbes of Clarksville.

Baby Talk - A Daughter, their first-born, was born to Mr. Mrs. Roger Garbes of Nashua September 17 at the Charles City hospital. Named Tracie Rae, the infant weighted eight pounds and 13 ounces at birth. Maternal grandparents are Mr. Mrs. Robert Bertelson of Charles City. Paternal grandparents are Mr. Mrs. Raymond Garbes of Nashua. Tracie Rae also is well supplied with great-grandparents, including Mr. Mrs. John Mennenga of Shell Rock, Mrs. Fred Garbes of Clarksville, and Mrs. Marvel Tefft and Mrs. Ruth Head of Nashua.

Baby Talk - Mr. Mrs. Dana Parker of Charles City are the proud parents of Heather Lenae, born September 11, weighing in at seven pounds, five ounces. Mrs. Parker is the former Laurie Kasemeier of Nashua. Paternal grandparents are Mr. Mrs. John Roger Kasemeier of Nashua. Maternal grandparents are Mr. Mrs. Gerald Parker of Charles City. Great-grandparents are Mr. Mrs. Ed Hirsch of Nashua, Mrs. Mrs. Herbert Kasemeier of Waverly, Mr. Mrs. Paul Bartelt of Mason City, Mrs. Clarice Dunn of California and a great-great-grandmother, Mrs. Dorothy Jenkins of California.

Baby Talk - Mr. Mrs. William Klassen are the parents of a son, born Setpember 7 in the Floyd county hospital. Grandparents are Mr. Mrs. Frank Ashley of rural Bassett and Mr. Mrs. Will Klassen of rural Ionia. Mrs. Klassen is the former Faye Ashley.

Dinner guests at the James Lynch home on Thurdsay evening were Mr. Mrs. Gerald Dietz, Darin and Amber, Dean Lynch and Karen and Glenn Lynch of Nashua, Mr. Mrs. Lynn Lantow and baby Dean Robert of New Hampton. This was in observance of five recent birthdays, of Glenn Lynch, Karen Lynch, Dean Lantow and baby and Marellen Dietz.

Dr. Mrs. Thomas W. Kelley of Austin, Tx., visited his father the Clark Kellys, in Nashua Wednesday and Friday, and with Mrs. Kelly's parents at Riceville. Dr. Kelly, a retired Army Colonel, recently returned from two years duty with the Army in Hawaii, and will practice medicine in Austin.

Exchange Students Parents were here - The Russ Naeves were hosts three days last week to the parents of the exchange student, Leo Terribelli, who was a guest in their home a few years ago. The parents live in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he operates a lumber mill, does mill work and has two or three other enterprises. They came first to Montreal, Canada, to visit relatives of hers, then flew to Des Moines, where the Naeves met them and brought them to Nashua. From here, they were going to Los Angeles to visit more relatives. The father said Agentina is now under military goverment. Inflation is so bad, he said, that where it took 2.8 pesos to buy a Yankee dollar in 1940, it now takes 25,000. Savings have been wiped out and the only thing of value is real estate. Investors in stocks are buying only where they are guaranteed a fixed return, regardless of the rate of inflation.

Fire Destroyed Pump House - The Nashua Rural Fire turck was called out at 5 p.m. Saturday to the Vernon Soldwisch place a mile south of Ferguson's corner on Highway 346. Defective wiring may have been the cause of the fire, which destroyed the pump house and adjacent pole which carried power from the high line to the place, with another wire serving the house. The Soldwisches were without power until emergency arrangements were made.

Friday morning, Mrs. Leo Raising had a going away brunch for Mrs. Eddie Bartz, Jr. There were six ladies present. The Bartzes will be moving to a home they bought.

Friday, Mr. Mrs. Alan Yubbin, Mr. Mrs. Harry Brown and Ezra Laudner, all of Dumont, were dinner guests of Mrs. Carrie Norman in New Hampton. The dinner was in honor of Mrs. Brown's birthday.

Friday, Mr. Mrs. Paul Meihost of rural Tripoli visited her parents, Mr. Mrs. John Jacobs.

Guest From Arizona - There were 17 in attendance for the Senior Citizens dinner at Bonnie's café in Bassett. The afternoon was spent playing progressive 500. Mrs. Frank Pyle's sister, Blanche Rice of Mesa, Az., was guest.

Harry Shafers to Mark 50th Wedding Anniversary Sunday - The Golden wedding anniversary of Mr. Mrs. Harry Shafer, 25 Merrill St., of Nashua, will be celebrated at an open house for relatives and friends Sunday, September 26, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Congregational church in Nashua. Lois Erbe of Staples, Mn., and Harry Shafer of Greene were married September 25, 1926 at Long Prairie, Mn. Members of the family will host the event.

Infant Baptized - Gerald Paul McGrane was baptized Saturday, September 11, after mass at St. Boniface church. Father Joseph Heineman officiated. Miss Jane Cox of Des Moines and Richard Cox of Ionia were sponsors. Guests at the home of Jerry’s parents, Mr. Mrs. Merle McGrane after the ceremony were his maternal grandparents, Mr. Mrs. Cletus Meyers. Others included were Mr. Mrs. Lee Cox, Paula and Ray, Mr. Mrs. Earl McGrane and family, Mr. Mrs. Richard Harrington and Jean, Mr. Mrs. Roger Harrington, Mrs. Alleene Welch and Father Joseph Heineman.

Lewy Usher Says North Minnesota Resorts are Open - Lewy Usher, who operates a resort on Lake Winny near Deer River, Mn., called the Reporter Monday to report that resorts are open during the drouth and forecast fire crisis in the north woods. It is the campgrounds which are closed, he said, not the resorts.

Luhring to Colorado - The Jim Luhrings are now living in Aurora, Co., a suburb of Denver, having moved there from Bettendorf, where Jim was on the faculty. At Aurora, he is coaching football and teaching math.

Monday, Mr. Mrs. G. E. Bynon and Mrs. Ellen Bynon left by plane from Waterloo for their home in Torrence, Ca., and Mrs. Mony Draper left for her home in Omaha, Nb. She went by bus from Waterloo. They came to attend the wedding of David Bynon and Betty Hoffman and then spent a week visiting relatives. Sunday there was a picnic in their honor at the park in Nashua. Others present were Mr. Mrs. Jack Smith of Clarksville, Mr. Mrs. Cal Yost and family of Clarksville, Mr. Mrs. Jerry Finnegan and family of Independence, Mr. Mrs. Vic Johnson and family of Nashua, Also, Mr. Mrs. Dale Schmitz of Alta Vista, Mr. Mrs. Joe Linkemeyer, Jenny Young and son David of Waterloo, Mr. Mrs. David Bynon of rural Ionia, Mr. Mrs. Pat Finnegan and family of Ionia and Mrs. Gary Johnson and daughter of Nashua.

Mr. Mrs. Art Lovig of Cedar Falls were afternoon and evening visitors of Mr. Mrs. Ed Welter the past week.

Mr. Mrs. Charles Huntley of New Hartford were visitors Sunday of his sister, Mrs. Anita Cleveland.

Mr. Mrs. Claude Colburn took their granddaughter Rhonda Jensson, back to her home in Grand Meadow, Mn., Sunday. The Colburns were dinner and supper guests of their daughter, Mr. Mrs. Roger Jensson. Other guests were Mr. Mrs. Vernon Quade and son Daryl of Plainfield.

Mr. Mrs. Dermont Heinmiller of Clinton, Md, spent a few days with his brother, Kenneth Heinmiller. They were enroute to California.

Mr. Mrs. Fred Mersch of New Hampton called Thursday at the James Lynch home.

Mr. Mrs. George Munson left Thursday to spend a few days with his sister, Mrs. Herman Spencer, in Austin Mn. They will also visit their granddaughter, Dr. Mrs. John Rolfson of rural Austin.

Mr. Mrs. Gerald Allison visited Mr. Mrs. Loyd Bork Monday afternoon in Albert Lee, Mn.

Mr. Mrs. Harley Dietz, Mr. Mrs. Dean Dietz and family and Mr. Mrs. Keith Smith and sons attended a picnic at Nashua Sunday, September 12, honoring Miss Mary Dietz.

Mr. Mrs. Harold Baldwin were weekend guests of their son, Mr. Mrs. Mrs. Burdette Baldwin in Delhi.

Mr. Mrs. Jerry Hyde, Jim and Jennifer of Cedar Rapids came Tuesday and were overnight guests of her parents, Mr. Mrs. A. J. Diesburg.

Mr. Mrs. Lawrence Roths, Jr., Mr. Mrs. James Testroet and Mr. Mrs. Norbert Koenigsfield went to Prairie du Chien Sunday to attend the wedding of Howard Wendland and Nanette Walters.

Mr. Mrs. Leo Klassen went to Mason City Friday and visited Mrs. Wm. Klassen at the hospital.

Mr. Mrs. Paul Murphy and family of New Hartford came Sunday to the home of her parents to help Charlie observe his birthday.

Mr. Mrs. Robert Westervelt of Nashua announce the approaching marriage of their daughter, Mary Leta, to Lyle Banser, son of Mr. Mrs. Lester Banser of Plainfield. The bride-elect is a graduate of Nashua high school and is employed at Lutheran Mutual at Waverly. The groom-elect is a graduate of Plainfield high school and is employed at Moormans Feed at Plainfield. The wedding is planned for October 20 at the First Congregational church at Nashua.

Mr. Mrs. Vaughn Conklin were in West Union September 12 for a dinner in observance of the baptismal service for their great-grandson, Michael Buenger. Michael is the son of Mr. Mrs. Richard Buenger.

Mr. Mrs. Wilbur Fisher were Friday evening callers of her brother, Duane Flynn at Sartori hospital in Cedar Falls.

Mrs. Anita Cleveland visited her parents, Mr. Mrs. Ray Huntley, Friday in New Hartford.

Mrs. Art Sargeant, Mrs. Gale Huffman, Larry Sargeant and Mrs. Jack Styer sepnt Monday at the Charles City hospital. Their mother, Mrs. Ethel Baltzer, went into surgery there that morning.

Mrs. Eva Huffman and Roger of Mankato, Mn., came Friday to the Lyle Huffman home. On Saturday, Mrs. Lyle Huffman accompanied the former to Chicago to attend the wedding of Dana Morse and Michael Falk. They were married in Itaska, Il. All were overnight

Mrs. Harold Youmans visited her sister, Mrs. Thelma Walker, on her birthday on Thursday, September 9. She was there Friday.

Mrs. Steve Connors and Steven of Minneapolis came Thursday and spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. Mrs. Melvin Idler and David. Mrs. Connors returned home Sunday and Steven remained for a longer stay.

On Vacation - Mr. Mrs. Harold Bie and her brother and wife the Art Munsons of Charles City, are on a week's vacation tour of the Ozarks. Harold is on vacation from his duties as manager of the state liquor store here.

Ray Edef and Carrie Schader were supper guests Friday of Mr. Mrs. Norman Bohle. The occasion was in honor of Janet Bohle's birthday.

Reports from the Sick and Injured - Bill Usher, a surgical patient in the hospital at Deer River, Mn., came through in fine shape and was discharged. He is convalescing at the home of his resort operator son, Lewy, on Lake Winnny, and was having a checkup Monday. He plans to return to Nashua early in October.

Reports from the Sick and Injured - Brian Jones sufered an upper leg bone fracture in football practise Wednesday afternoon and was taken by ambulance to the Charles City hospital. He is a son of Mr. Mrs. Jerry Jones.

Reports from the Sick and Injured - Hillis Creger of Plainfield returned from the Waverly hospital Sunday, and is feeling some better.

Reports from the Sick and Injured - Lee Stansbery returned last week from Rochester, where he received treatment after previously having been hospitalized at Waverly.

Reports from the Sick and Injured - Lloyd Shuster has returned home from the Charles City hospital, where he underwent major surgery the preceding Tuesday. He will convalesce at his home before taking a series of treatments.

Reports from the Sick and Injured - Mrs. Carl (Hazle) Gritzner of Plainfield is in the Waverly hospital, after breaking her arm in three places in a fall at her home. Her husband was moved from their home in Plainfield to a nursing home in Independence.

Reports from the Sick and Injured - Mrs. Robert Becker of rural Nashua was called back from a trip to Minden, Nb., by the serious illness of her daughter, Mrs. James Bobst of Hampton, who was scheduled for major surgery Tuesday this week. Mrs. Becker flew back from Minden.

Reports from the Sick and Injured - Vic Fisher entered the Charles City hospital Sunday night with a suspected heart attack, but tests were negative.

Riverton Women Enjoy Fall Tea - September 17, fourteen members of the Riverton Homemakers attended the annual tea party at the home of Madelon Groen with Marian Hannemann and Jo Stille as co-hostesses. There were three children present. Meeting was called to order by President Elaine Finger with group singing in charge of Betty Lines, led by Louise Wright. Several letters were read by President Finger. She announced that the Fall Farm Bureau Workshop would be held September 22 at the Red Owl in Charles City. There being no further business, meeting adjoured and was turned over to the program committee. Court Whist furnished the afternoon's amusement, after which a fine dessert luncheon was served with Louise Wright pouring coffee and Elaine Finger presiding at the punch bowl of the beautifully appointed tea table. Next meeting will be October 15 at the home of Jo (Mrs. Louis) Frascht when the programs will be ready. (Mrs. Charles Longhorn, Publicity).

Several guests arived Thursday evening, September 9, to help Mrs. Eugene Shipp celebrate her birthday which was that day. Guests were Mr. Mrs. Richard Smith and Mr. Mrs. Clair Nichols of Waverly, Mr. Mrs. Bill Remley and Elva and Pete Remley of Nashua, Mr. Mrs. Carl Meyers of Clarksville, also Harold Youmans.

Shower for Joan - Miss Joan Hoffman was honored Sunday afternoon at a miscellaneous bridal shower in the home of her sister, Mrs. Maurice Miller. There were 30 guests in attendance. The colors of royal blue and light blue were carried out in the decorations. Lunch was served by the hostesses, Mrs. Maurice Miller and Mrs. Clark Koenigsfield. Miss Hoffman is the daughter of Mr. Mrs. August Hoffman and will marry Terry Wegner September 25 at the I.C. church in Charles City.

Sunday, Mrs. A. J. Diesburg and son Jim attended the Salsbury picnic at the park along Highway 14 west of Charles City.

The Kill Kare club met Thursday with Mrs. Carrie Norman in New Hampton with seven members present. The president, Mrs. Gladys Welter, gave an interesting talk on their trip to Manitoba, Canada, where they attended her cousin's wedding. Next meeting will be in October at the home of Mrs. Loyd Usher.

Tuesday afternoon, Mr. Mrs. Leo Klassen visited his sister, Mrs. Susan Diesburg at the Care Center and Mrs. Clara Koenigsfield and Mrs. Tony Heit in their homes in New Hampton.

Tuesday night, Mr. Mrs. John Reiss were supper guests in the home of Mr. Mrs. Joe Dynes in Riceville.

Tuesday night, Mrs. Una Spurbeck and Mrs. Anita Cleveland attended the Welcome club meeting at the Edith Wegner home. There were 13 present. The October meeting will be in the home of Arlene Heige.

Wednesday, Mrs. Vince Rausch, Mrs. Dick Bonfig and baby daughter, Mrs. Agnes Adams and Mrs. James Kramer visited in the Ralph Whiteman home in Waterloo.

Went on Tour - Mr. Mrs. Tyndal Fosse got home Sunday night from an eight-day tour of Washington, D.C., and other points. They were in a group of 38 which traveled via chartered bus out of Iowa City, the tour arranged by the American Automobile Association. "It's the only way to tour", said Tyndal, "I wouldn't go any other way anymore."
