53RD ANNIVERSARY FOR NIEL HUGHES' - Mr. Mrs. Neil Hughes were weekend guests of their daughter, Delilah, in Beloit, Wi. Sunday, Pastor and Mrs. Eddy had a dinner for them on their 53rd wedding anniversary which was Sunday, September 5. The Hughes' returned home Monday.

Baby Talk - Mr. Mrs. Ronald Riggan (nee Patty Cagley) of Rockford are the parents of a daughter, Diane Marie, born September 6 in the Floyd county hospital. She weighted seven pounds, three ounces at birth. Diane has two sisters and one brother; Carol Ann, 5, Billy, 4, and Debbie, 2. Maternal grandparents are Mr. Mrs. Ernest Cagley of Nashua, while Mr. Mrs. Earl Riggan of Rockford are paternal grandparents.

Callers in the Lester Chandler home Friday evening were Mr. Mrs. Eldred Johnson of rural New Hampton, Mr. Mrs. Robert Chandler of rural Nashua, Mr. Mrs. Clarence Lipa and Dean of rural Lourdes and Mr. Mrs. Donald Bast and Donna Mae of rural Nashau, Mrs. Bast brought a beautifully decorated cake for her mother's birthday. Mrs. Donald Peterson of Green Bay, Wi., the only one unable to attend, called.

Cards of Thanks - I Would Like to thank all my relatives, friends, and neighbors for the visits, cards and gifts while I was in the hospital and since returning home. Dennis Zwanziger.

DAN BONFIG LEAVES FOR SAUDI ARABIA - Dan Bonfig left Saturday, September 4, for Saudi Arabia after spending several months here with his mother, Mrs. Helen Bonfig. He left from Waterloo by plane and flew to Germany. He expects to be gone two years.

Darlene Shipp of Waterloo and Mrs Cora Shipp visited Mrs Edith Burke on Sunday afternoon. Monday, Mrs. Harvey Lantzky of Sumner called on her aunt, Mrs. Edith Burke, and also visited her sister Mr. Mrs. George DeVries.

Edith Youmans of Waterloo spent the weekend with Mr. Mrs. Harold Youmans. On Sunday they went to Spring Valley, Mn., to attend a family picnic.

Firemen fought a trash and grass fire Saturday afternoon which apparently broke out in some old bridge planks and other material stored on the farm side of the race track at the north end of the fairgrounds. It spread rapidly, fanned by a brisk south wind, through the adjacent farmyard and into a hay field run by Gerald P. Fisher.

Fisher to Alaska - Airman Larry Fisher, son of the Jim Fishers, is now stationed in Alaska, doing Air Force wire maintenance work. He has been located at Fairbanks, but expected to be assigned to an isolated post inland for work there, with duty at Anchorage following the inland stint.

Friday, Mr. Mrs. Clarion Rohde and Mr. Mrs. Roy Milligan of Safford, Az., called on Mr. Mrs. John Flint, sr.

Friday, Mr. Mrs. John Reiss went to Mt. Pleasant to attend the annual Threshers reunion.

Future Homemakers - Bonnie, age 9, Bradley, age 7, and Beck, age 4 are the children of Mr. Mrs. Ronald Bilharz.

Future Homemakers - Jeffrey Heckrodt, age 4, and his sister Kimberly, age 1 year, 6 months, are the children of Mr. Mrs. Karl Heckrodt.

Gloria Diesburg, who works in Rochester, came home Sunday and stayed until Wednesday with her parents.

HAPPY HOUR CLUB MEMBERS TELL OF FRIGHTENING EVENTS - The Happy Hour club met September 9 at the home of Eva Bolam. Our new president, Marie Harold, opened the meeting with everyone repeating the Lord's Prayer. Seven members and one guest answered roll call with telling of a time in their life they were really frightened. Bills for cards and postage were presented and paid. New committees were announced. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. The October meeting will be with Emily Bolam. Games, contests and visiting occupied the rest of the afternoon after which a tasty lunch was served. (Secretary, Dorothy Smith).

Harold Bennett of Waterloo is spending a few days with Mr. Mrs. Charlie Crooks.

HAS BASEBALL CARDS - Galen Wiemers of Thompson, a high school junior, is an avid baseball fan, and he has collected over 10,000 baseball cards since he was "knee-high to a grasshopper". The most valuable card in his collection is a Honus Wagner card from 1909, which is now worth $1,500.

HERE FROM CANADA - Mrs. Hazel Chamney had guests from Wednesday to Monday, Mr. Mrs. Edward Chamney of Estevan, Sask., Canada and Donald Frisbys of Floodwood, Mn.

Hillis Creger entered the Municipal Waverly hospital last Wednesday evening for treatment and tests.

HOGAN CLUB PLANS GIFT TO LIBRARY - Hogan Study club met at Mrs. Frank Jermier's home September 9. 13 members and two guests were present, Mary Dean and June Wittgreve. We answered roll call of, "In your opinion what is the best gift to give a shut-in?". The quilt we sold tickets on was won by Duane Welter of Nashua. We took a vote as to what community project to contribute to and the public library was decided upon. Wh had a white elephant sale also at our meeting. Lunch was served by our hostess, Fern Jermier, and co-hostess Jean Kristensen.

Karl Peterson of Chicago stopped at the Lyle Huffman home the past week. She was on her way to visit an uncle at Spencer.

Kathy Schwennen to be Bride - The wedding of Kathy Schwennen and Jon Meraz is announced by their parents, Mrs. Kathleen Schwennen of Jesup and Mr. Mrs. Richard Meraz of 2434 Wayne Ave. of Iowa City. Kathy is employed by Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty. Jon is employed by Farmers Grain Dealers Association in Muscatine. Vows will be exchanged September 18 at Our Redeemer's Lutheran church in Iowa City.

Labor day guests of Mr. Mrs. Leonard Huegel and family were Mr. Mrs. Lenny Huegel and family of Marion, Mr. Mrs. George Huegel and family of rural Ionia, Mr. Mrs. Mark Huegel of rural New Hampton, Vince Huegel of Charles City, Mike Huegel of New Hampton, and Mary Jane Rietveld of Denver, Co., is spending a week with her parents.

LEO KLASSENS MARK GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY - Mr. Mrs. Leo Klassen celebrated their golden anniversary Sunday starting with a mass in their honor at St. Boniface church. A family dinner was served at Daniel's café in New Hampton with around 35 in attendance. Special guests for the dinner were Father Joseph Heineman and Mrs. John Brummond, sr., and Lawrence Roths, sr., who were their attendants. Leo Klassen and Leona Roths were married in September of 1926 in St. Boniface church by Father Goetzinger. In the afternoon an open house for relatives and friends was held at their home with approximately 250 guests. The event was hosted by their children, Mr. Mrs. Ronald Klassen of Fairmont, Mn., Mr. Mrs. Don Campbell of Hickory Hills, Il., and Mr. Mrs. Francis Klassen of rural Ionia.

MILTON SEVERSON'S BROTHER STRICKEN - Mr. Mrs. Milton Severson left Friday for the state of Washington to attend the funderal of his brother, who had suffered a stroke. Milton Severson had been dismissed Thursday from the Veterans hospital at Des Moines and returning home, received the message of his brother's death.

Miss Margee Smith and Bruce Hunt, both of Cedar Rapids, were united in marriage Saturday, August 14, at St. Joseph's Catholic church in new Hampton. Parents of the couple are Mr. Mrs. Clemens Smith of New Hampton and Mr. Mrs. Harlan Hunt of Nashua. The bride is a 1973 graduate of New Hampton high school and is a senior at Mount Mercy college in Cedar Rapids. She is also employed at Life Investors Insurance company of Cedar Rapids. The bridegroom is a 1974 graduate of Nashua high school and attended Mount Mercy college and UNI. He is currently employed at Norland Corporation in Cedar Rapids, where they will reside.

Monday, Mr. Mrs. John Reiss attended the Cedar Valley Engine club's steam engine show, south of Charles City.

Mr. Mrs. Fred Plautz will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2 to 5 Sunday, September 19, at St. John Lutheran church Social Hall in Nashua. Clara Mohling and Fred Plautz were married September 22, 1926, in the Lutheran church in Hastings, Nb. The courtesy will be hosted by their children Mr. Mrs. Raymond (Kathleen) Jakel, Mr. Mrs. Kenneth (Berniece) Wolf, and Howard Plautz, all of Nashua. Since their retirement from farming they have been engaged in interior decorating. The couple request no gifts.

Mrs. Ruth Hansen and Mrs. Edward Zwanziger were hostesses Sunday afternoon at the Little brown church. They were there to show visitors the church and answer questions concerning it. Several hundred visitors were there including an exchange student from France, also a lady from France.

Mrs. Ruth Utterback, widow of the former LBC pastor, Glenn L. Utterback, visited Nashua over the weekend, being a guest at the Arnold Jones and Art Swinton homes. She is now living in Ashland, Wi., and is a nurse in the hospital there.

Mrs. Willis Hansen of New Hampton, niece of Miss Floy Good, spent Thursday, September 9, with her. Mr. Mrs. Joe Harris of San Diego, Ca., were also guests.

Reports from the Sick and Injured - Bill Usher is in the hospital at Deer River, Mn., recovering from an emergency appendectomy which was complicated by pre-surgical infection. He had the operation Thursday and was to have about 10 days' convalescence. Bill had been spending the summer with his son, Lewy, at the latter's resort on Lake Winny. Another son, Ray of Nashua, spent the weekend with Bill.

Reports from the Sick and injured - Lloyd Shuster was admitted to the Charles City hospital Monday afternoon, and submitted to surgery Tuesday morning.

Reports from the Sick and Injured - Mrs. Clara Rodamaker also entered the Charles City hospital Monday, going there late in the day, and is receiving treatment.

Reports from the Sick and Injured - Mrs. Harlan Staley returned home Saturday from Roseville, Ca., where she had been since August 4 because her brother, Noble Joyce, had suffered a severe stroke. Harlan, who accompanied Margaret, returned August 30. Margaret's brother, who remains in serious condition, is now in a special care center.

Reports from the Sick and Injured - Theresa Berens, daughter of Mr. Mrs. Donald Berens of Nashua, entered the Floyd Memorial hospital Friday morning and had major surgery that day. She isn't expected home until at least Wednesday where she will convalescence for a week or two afterward.

RESORTS IN CHIPPEWA FOREST FIRE AREA CANCEL BOOKINGS - About 40 forest fires are raging in the northern Minnesota area from west of Duluth ot the Leach lake Walker Park Rapids region, with about 30,000 acres involved, according to Nashuans who had been up north. Ray Usher said all resorts in the Chipewa National forest were ordered to cancel reservations until further notice; that is, until the fires are brought under control. This is an economic hardship on the resort owners, including Lewy Usher, former Nashuan. Ray Usher, who spent the weekend at Deer River with his father, Bill, who is a post-surgical patient there, said one blaze alone around Aitkin covers 5,700 acres. He drove through dense smoke in that region for about 20 minutes.

SHE WON PRIZE - Rhonda Fisher of Nashua won the World Globe given at the World Book Child Craft booth at the Big 4 Fair.

Sister Francella and Sister Carina Schwickerath of Dubuque visited at the home of Clarence and Lucile Schwickerath. They also visited their sister, Mrs. Bill Klassen, at the hospital at Mason City and got to visit their niece and family who were visiting here from Arcadia, Ca.

Sister Mary Lucille Huegel of Huntington, In., came Sunday and stayed until Tuesday visiting Mr. Mrs. John Orthaus and other relatives. Mr. Mrs. Orthaus took her to Dubuque Tuesday.

Sue Kiehn Weds Kevin Sullivan - The Single Ring ceremony uniting Sue Kiehn of Plainfield and Kevin Sullivan of Waverly was held Saturday, August 28, at Pleasant Hill church, Rural Nashua. Rev. Merlin Dietrich began the service at 6:30 p.m.

AID ACCIDENT VICTIM - It was voted to give the Good Neighbor Deed for September to Bill Eickhoff of Bassett, who was injured in a machinery accident. He has been in the Iowa City hospital and unable to talk. It was announced that social day would be held September 15 in the hall. There will be no convention this fall, due to the district deputy, Mrs. Velma Kamm's accident, and has been in the hospital receiving treatment for cracked vertebrae. She is now in the home of her son, Marion Kamm of Rt. 3 Charles City. Members were reminded not to forget the birthdays of Mrs. Etta Ashley, Mrs. Claribel Van Kleeck and Mrs. Nettie Altenburg.

Two sons of Nashua Lions were guests of their fathers at Monday's Lions club meeting. Paul Shuster of near Park Rapids, Mn., was a guest of Lloyd Shuster, and Jim Shepard was a guest of his father, Don.

WILTSES MOVE - Mr. Mrs. David Wiltse and sons moved the past week from their country home to the Johnston home in the south part of Plainfield.
