18 June 2003 The 92nd reunion was held June 8th at the Big Four Fair Grounds in Nashua, Iowa. There were 54 present this year, down from other years. Weather was wet, but that didn't bother anyone in the building. Among the oldest were Marie Zwanziger, Charlie Dietz, Mildred Caswell, Edith Vohsman, Don Zwanziger and John Starr. The youngest was Kylie Dietz, daughter of Darin and Angie Dietz--granddaughter of Charlie and Twila Dietz--great-granddaughter of Charlie Dietz Sr. and the late Sadie Dietz. Coming the longest distance from St. Paul MN was Eric and Lucy Wood-Ryan and 9 month old Kathleen, son of Mary Wood. Eric just recently retired from some 20 years in the service. Following the singing of the Doxology we all feasted on a potluck dinner with all the trimmings. Everyone enjoyed the food, fellowship and reminiscing from the past as well as the present. A card was sent around for everybody to sign for Effie Conklin who missed the reunion for the first time in 82 years. We all miss her and wish her well as she will be 98 years old in September. Thank you all for coming and hope to see everyone next year June 13--same place. 25 June 2003 The 2003 Eckenrod reunion was held June 15th at the Gary and Carl Kalvig farm in rural Ionia. Their home has been in the family over 75 years, previously owned by Gary's grandparents, Floyd and Merle Eckenrod and great-grandparents, Mike and Mary Eckenrod. Seventy-three people attended the event from 10 different towns in Iowa, as well as from Madison and Webster, Wisconsin. Those coming from the greatest distance were Roger and Katy Eckenrod of Webster, WI. The oldest family member was Melvin Kalvig of rural Ionia and the youngest was Trey Eckenrod, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Eckenrod of Waverly. Visiting, noon potluck, and pictures of previous generations was enjoyed by all. Reprinted with the gracious permission of the owners and publishers of the Nashua Reporter, 2003. |
