6/28/1923 Members of Zwanziger Clan Meet At Nashua Fair Grounds--The Zwanziger family held their annual reunion at the fair grounds Wednesday of last week with one hundred and fifteen members present to partake of the sumptuous picic dinner which was spread ub tge cool shade of the trees at noon. Following the dinner a program was given, and officers and committees were selected for next year. Miss Leota Barber was chosen as president and secretary; Louis Moine as chairman of the sports committee; Will Stephens, refreshments, and Leota Barber, program. It was deceided by those present to make this family reunion an annual affair, to be held each year on the third Wednesday in June. One of the events of the afternoon was a ball game between the men and the boys, and the men won by a score of 9-8. Owing to the serious illness of Mrs. Katherine Zwanziger, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. L. Cagley, none of her immediate family were present, but a beautiful bouquet of roses was sent to Mrs. Zwanziger by the relatives. LYNES FAMILY REUNION AT JESUP--The annual reunion of the Lynes family was held at the W. W. Blasier home in Jesup last Friday, fifty-five relatives participated in making the event a success. The commodious home and large and shady lawn of the Blasier home made it an ideal place for the occasion. A long table was arranged in the driveway of the lawn, around which this large and happy family assembled to partake of a sumptuous Lynes dinner. Each guest was presented with a souvenir picture of Mr. Blasier's home. A family group picture was taken, after which addresses were given by Mr. Hovey of Dakota, Alfred Lynes of New York, Howard Roach of Plainfield, James Lynes and Elmer Reeves of Waverly, and W. W. blasier of Jesup. A characteristic feature of the Lynes family has been its close fellowship, the outbranching families seeking to maintain a residence nearby. Yet in the face of this fact the members are scattered over different states. The outstanding feature of the day was the reunion. Ice cream and cake were served at the "end of a perfect day". 8/2/1923 Larkin Family Renion--Members of the Larkin family had a very pleasant reunion the past week at the home of James Larkin, west of Plainfield, when the following relatives were present: E. N. Larkin and wife of Rochester, Minn.; Mrs. W. H. Haines and son Walter of Williston, N. D.; Mrs. V. C. Willett, Oelwein, Iowa; Miss Emma Larkin and James Larkin, who live on the old home farm. These are children and grandchildren of the late Nate Larkin, who fifty two years ago secured the farm home in Fremont township where the reunion was held. The husband of Mrs. Haines is a son of the late Charles Haines, who lived on a farm in Polk township and was well known in Bremer county.--from the Waverly Independent. 8/16/1923 Carey Family Reunion Sunday--The second Carey family reunion was held at the home of Mrs. George Sloat in Chickasaw last Sunday, this being the first meeting of the families at hone time for about eighteen years. The men enjoyed pitching horseshoes, while the women visited and prepared the big dinner, which was the main event of the day. The occasion was much enjoyed by all and it was decided to make it an annual affair. Mrs. Sloat and granddaughter, Miss Doris Cagley and a niece, Mrs. Emma Burman, of Brookins, S. D., expect to leave the 20th of this month for Long Beach, Calif. Others present at the reunion were: Harry Carey and family, Mr. and Mrs. George Carey and Mrs. Mary Carey Toepfer, Charles City; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Carey and daughter, Floyd; Mrs. Emma Sloat, Doris Cagley, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Carey and daughter, Vera, Mr. and Mrs. Myron Bigelow, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Carey, Levi Carey, H. W. Carey and J. S. Carey and family, Chickasaw; Mr. and Mrs. George Hunt and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Cagley, Mrs. Henry Noble and Mr. and Mrs. C. V. Cook and family of Nashua. 8/23/1923 Thomas Family Reunion-The fourteenth annual reunion of the Thomas family was held August 19, 1923, at the Tracey woods. Favorable conditions resulted in having the largest attendance at any reunion previously held--one hundred and sixty being present. At noon all gathered about a long table where they found plenty to satisfy their appetites. There were games and stunts for the old as well for the old as well as the young. Swings were in use most of the time. Just before leaving many of the party had a swim in the Cedar river nearby. Home-made ice cream sent them on their way in good spirits. Those present from places other than Greene, Nashua and vicinity were as follows: Zenas Thomas and wife of St. Paul, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Bowman and son Robert, of Madison, Wis.; Mr. L. H. Holmes and daughter Ethel, Misses Norma and Marion Jarvis of Wyoming, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hoover and baby of St. Paul, Minn.; Mrs. Paul Holmes and two children, of Estherville, Iowa; and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stevens and daughter, of Sheffield, Iowa. Reunion at Wm. Butler Home-The Wannamaker family held their second annual reunion at the pleasant home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Butler, in this city, on Saturday, August 18. Thirty-five were present to enjoy the occasion and a fine picnic dinner was served at noon and the hours were enjoyably spent in visiting. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Glen Wannamaker and son Donald and L. Wannamaker of Estherville, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Will Wannamaker and sister, and Elsie and Mabel Wannamaker, of Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Crandall and daughter Merle, of Greene; A. L. Wannamaker, , Mrs. Etta kelly, Mr. and Mrs. E. Roach, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Roach and children, Mrs. Paige, Mr. and Mrs. Lou Roach and son James, of Plainfield, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Martin and son Hugh, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Peterson and son Roger, Arthur Martin and son Eugene, Mr. and Mrs. William Butler and daughter Dorothea, of Nashua. 8/30/1923 Shanafelt Family Reunion-The home of Mr. and Mrs. Taylor Shanafelt, in the south part of town, was the scene of a happy gathering last Sunday when all the children, except one son-in-law, Mr. Jones of Tennessee, were present to spend the day with father and mother. There were eighteen in the group and a most enjoyable day was spent. A big dinner was one of the principal events of the day. 12/20/1923 A family reunion dinner was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Shadbolt Sunday. Those present at the gathering were: Mr. and Mrs. George Richards and children of Six Mile Grove; Mrs. Frank Ray and sons Harry, Ray and Leroy, of Waterloo; and Mr. and Mrs. Rolad Shadbolt and children. |
