CHICKASAW COUNTY CEMETERIES

This listing is developed from several sources but in the table two major sources are listed. The WPA is from the WPA Graves Registration Project conducted in 1935-1943.

The GNIS is from the Geographic Names Information System of the U. S. Geological Survey. Click on the "X" in this column will take you to the corresponding GNIS page which provides the USGS data about the cemetery. On this page you may click on the GNIS in Google Map in the Mapping Services box. This will open a window showing the exact location of the cemetery.

If we hold transcriptions of tombstones for any of these cemeteries you can see them by clicking on the bolded cemetery name. The VOL column indicates there is someone on our Volunteer Lookups Page who will do research for that cemetery.

The F/G column contains a link to the Find A Grave website for that particular cemetery.

Some data is also received from the Chickasaw Genealogical Society, (CGS) 1999.

Some of the cemeteries have a map. See ** below for explanation. The County Coordinator is not located in Chickasaw and so some of the cemetery locations / maps noted herein have not been verified. If anyone has knowledge of more exact location data for the cemeteries or more information / transcriptions please contact the County Coordinator.

We are looking for more transcriptions so if you hold any which we don't have please contact us and we'll be happy to post them on this web site.

PLEASE NOTE: Transcription of cemeteries is not complete and not completely accurate. A name on a list does not mean the gravestone marker is still there. It was there at a snapshot in time but it is possible it was removed, destroyed, or now a partial gravestone. A name NOT on a list does NOT mean the individual was not buried there. If a cemetery has more than one list be sure to study them all. In many cases a list reflects more than what is on the gravestone marker (in particular the WPA lists) and will also include data discovered by the transcriber.

Gravestone Photo Project

The IAGenWeb Gravestone Photo Project is a special project within our USGenWeb Project. Here is where our researchers contribute a photo of their ancestor(s) of Chickasaw County cemeteries. If you have a photo of your ancestor(s) headstone, consider adding it to our special project. Click on the link below.
