Respectively dedicated to the old settlers who
courageously met the lonliness of a new country. Waded sloughs, swam
streams, breasted the storms of winter and played a part in crystalizing
a formaic civiliation reducing the wild wet unattractive wilderness to
comfortable homes and productive fields. In honor of the unmarked graves of the pioneer who settled in the town Jacksonville 1/2 mile north, in 1854. This Plaque placed by the Jacksonville Historian Club, who are responsible for restoring the abandoned Cemetery to a semblance of order and beauty in 1956-57. This is a beautiful cemetery, cared for by the Jacksonville Historian Club, who have continued to improve the grounds, by placing a small Chapel, complete with Alter, Organ and seats. |
