ASHLEY FAMILY | ||
William L. ASHLEY, (Senior) (picture insert) was born April 11, 1864, on the family farm in Chickasaw
County, Iowa is the son of Thomas W. ASHLEY (picture insert) and Lucinda H. LARRABEE, who were
natives of Deerfield and Greenfield, Massachuetts. Thomas was born January 18, 1822 and his
wife June 7, 1832. They were married Nov 13, 185l after Mr ASHLEY, had lost his first wife
and two small children prior to August 1849. In 1854, they joined a colony of Deerfield Massachusetts families that left for the far west, arriving in Chickasaw County, Iowa where they established Deerfield Township. The family farmed in Chickasaw County until his death on Jan 28, 1888; his second wife died Feb 17, 1870. They were parents to seven children, four whom are still living, Charles, Mary, Fannie, and William. William L. ASHLEY (Jr) married Miss Alice Louise FERGUSON, daughter of William Henry FERGUSON and Ida Joanne SNYDER on March 15, 1894, in Charles City, Iowa. They farmed Section 30, Deerfield Township, where they reared their only son, George Dewey ASHLEY. He married Etla Marie RODAMAKER and they have one son, Thomas William ASHLEY, who now is the fourth generation to live upon this farm. Joshua C. ASHLEY, born March 18, 1818 and his wife Eliza (SMITH) ASHLEY, born in Brookfield, Vermont on January 12, 1814 also were a part of the Deerfield families movement west to Iowa. He died in 1898 and she survived until 1912. Their son, John G. ASHLEY, was born March 13, 1857 on the family farm, Section 29, Deerfield Township. He married in April 1893, Miss Mary F. FERGUSON, of Floyd County, Iowa. She died in 19ll, leaving four children, John E., Ralph W., Ray, and Lloyd all of whom are yet with their father.
