  • Early settler in town of Bradford, arrived 1851, land claim warrant - Mexican War (1883 Alexander, pg 192)
  • Settled at the place where the town of Bradford was subsequently platted - 1851 (1883 Alexander, pg 317)
  • Appointed organizing sheriff of Chickasaw County, order issued June 30, 1853 (1883 Alexander, pg 128)
  • County of Chickasaw organizing sheriff in the election held on August 13, 1853 (1883 Alexander, pg 125 & 136)
  • One of the township organizers - March 1855 - comprised what are now known as Bradford and Richland Townships (1883 Alexander, pg 194)
  • Justice of the Peace (1883 Alexander, pg 150)
  • Election board of canvassers (1883 Alexander, pg 152 & 157)
  • The first and second sermons ever preached in Chickasaw County took place at his house (1883 Alexander, pg 193)
  • Member from Bradford - The Chickasaw County Historical Society - organized in 1859 (1883 Alexander, pg 227)
  • Elected Vice-President - first agricultural society in Chickasaw County organized at Jacksonville in September 1857 (1883 Alexander, pg 233)
  • Gave lots for the “Little Brown Church” at Bradford (1883 Alexander, pg 292)

Fourth Congressional District (Nashua) served 1883-1885, elected on National Party Ticket

Smiley S. SAMPLE
  • Son of Andrew Sample, early settler, 1854
  • Erected sawmill in Bradford
  • Opened the first store of general merchandise in Nashua, 1856 (Alexander, pg 198 & 320)
  • Served in the Twenty-seventh Iowa Infantry - Co G (1883 Alexander, pg 312)

Early settler of Nashua (1854) also had a store in Nashua

EDWARD HALL
  • Early settler of Nashua (1854)
  • Signed a report as one of the commissioners, letting the contract for building the bridge over the Big Cedar at Nashua - June, 1867 (1883 Alexander, pg 144)

John FELCHER
Served in the Twenty-Seventh Iowa Infantry - Co G (1883 Alexander, pg 312)
b. 13 Jan 1826 in New York; d. 19 Feb 1895, Nashua

  • Early settler of Nashua (1854)
  • Built first hotel in 1857 in Nashua
  • Served in the Twenty-seventh Iowa Infantry - Co G (1883 Alexander, pg 311)

M.L. WOODBRIDGE
Early family member of Nashua settler Enoch WOODBRIDGE (1854) who laid out town of Bridgeport, which changed to Woodbridge, then later changed to Nashua. (Named after the town in New Hampshire, as a compliment to their former home.)
