Dentists Who Practiced in Marcus

Dr. W. S. MORROW

Dr. W. S. Morrow was a graduate of the Western Dental College of Kansas City, MO in the Class of 1896.  He located in Marcus, IA for practice of his profession.  He married Mary Olive STRAIN of Cleghorn, IA in October 1899.

Dr. C.F. DWIGHT

Dr. Chas. F. Dwight had a extensive practice in the town in which he was born, Marcus, IA, where he won high esteem both as a man and a dentist.  He moved to Dell Rapids, SD on May 7, 1897.

Dr. Raymond P. McDONALD

Dr. McDonald was born on January 25, 1893 at Marcus, IA, and at an early age moved with his parents to Cherokee, IA.  After graduating from the public school system there, he matriculated in the dental college of the State University of Iowa, where he received his degree in June 1913.  He began his dental practice in Marcus, and remained in the profession there until the summer of 1917, when he enlisted in the U.S. Army.  Dr. McDonald was honorably discharged in February 1919, and returned to Marcus to continue his practice until his death on December 18 1935.

On May 18, 1923, he was married to Ida YANEK of Mason City, IA and to them were born two daughters, Mary Theresa and Patricia Ann.

Dr. L. L. NORRIS

Dr. Luke L. Norris came to Marcus, IA in 1936, purchasing the dental practice of Dr. Raymond McDonald.  He retired from dentistry in 1960.

Dr. Norris was born at Cobb, WI on November 6, 1884, and moved to Rock Valley, IA as a child.  He graduated from Rock Valley High School, and attended Notre Dame University, and received his degree in dentistry from Pomeroy, IA from 1908 until coming to Marcus.

On July 8, 1914, he married Marie PETERSON in Pomeroy.  They had two daughters, Jean (Mrs. James QUINN) and Patricia (Mrs. Roger RAE; and four sons, Dr. Harold, Frank, Dr. Paul, and Major John. Dr. Norris passed away March 8, 1970.

Dr. Ralph E. DUBOIS

Dr. Dubois was born in Sioux Rapids, IA on August 4, 1896, and was married to Eva LAKE on November 28 at Estherville, IA.  He practiced dentistry at Primghar, IA for five years, and in Marcus, IA since 1928, Dr. Dubois passed
away November 1, 1972 at the age of 76 at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee, IA, after a lingering illness.  

Dr. Loy L. JULIUS

Dr. Julius was a native of Cherokee, IA, and moved to Marcus, IA after completing dental school.  He was recalled to active duty in the U.S. Air Force, and was assigned to the Air Academy at Colorado Springs, CO in August of 1960.  At the time of his leaving Marcus, he was serving his second term on the board of directors of the Marcus Community School District.  After leaving the Air Force, he lived in Omaha, NE, and was on the faculty at the Creighton University Dental School. Dr. Julius now lives in Merced, CA.

Dr. James L. WIESE

Dr. James L. Wiese was born in Hospers, IA, and graduated from the public school system there.  He received an A.A. degree from Sheldon Junior College, B.S. degree from Buena Vista College, and a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the State University of Iowa.  While at Iowa City, his wife , Clarice F. (R.N.) was the charge nurse of the surgical floor at Mercy Hospital.  After graduating from S.U.I., Dr. Wiese was associated with an orthodontist in Spirit Lake, IA for three years.  In 1963, they moved to Marcus, IA, where Dr. Wiese was in the practice of general dentistry until he retired in 1994.  He served as a hospital corpsman/dental technician during the Koren War in the United States Coast Guard.  In 1977, Dr. Wiese was awarded a fellowship in General Dentistry at Montreal, Canada. Dr. and Mrs. Wiese are the parents of one son, Thomas James.
