MASON CITY - The prize for winning a raffle at the Mason City Fire Department last weekend was a special ride to school for six Hoover Elementary students.

As they waited at a house on Monroe Avenue around 8 a.m. Tuesday, a group of Mason City firefighters pulled up in a 1939 decommissioned fire truck according to firefighter Mitch Smith.

Hoover student Jayda LaSalle, 8, won the raffle and invited siblings and friends to join her on the ride — Tiffany McKenzie, 8; Adison Hanson, 8; Ava Harms, 6; Dhalia LaSalle, 6 and Delon LaSalle, 5.

Firefighters had to refill the truck with a cylinder gas canister before the final trip to the school.

"Everyone's going to be jealous," said Adison Hanson, 8.
