MASON CITY - Darlene Kline, 57, of Mason City, passed into Heaven on Jan. 10, 2000, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit after losing her battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Kermit Roisen officiating. Interment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Darlene Kline Memorial Fund.

Darlene was born on March 18, 1942, the daughter of Willis and Lila (Harrington) Nichols Sr.

Darlene received her education in the Clear Lake School systems. She married Lyle Kline Sr. on Jan. 14, 1984, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Darlene enjoyed going fishing with her family. She loved watching deer and wildlife. She enjoyed her grandchildren and spent a lot of time reading about angels. She was the manager of the Swan Motel in Clear Lake in the late '80s, also the Village Chateau in Forest City and the Ashley Inn in Mason City.

Darlene is survived by her husband, Lyle Sr.; two sons, Scott and Jaime Hakes, of Clear Lake; one daughter, Jennifer Anderson Allen, of Rockford; three stepsons, Lyle Jr., Richard and Dennis Kline; eight grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and two step great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Gordon Nichols and his wife, Ruth, of Clear Lake and John Nichols and his wife, Karen, of Clear Lake; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Nichols, of Clear Lake; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; one sister, Doris Nichols; two brothers, Charles and Willis "Bill" Nichols Jr.; one sister-in-law, Shirley; and an infant son, Steven Hakes.
