Marcia Rachael Funk, 65, of 2323 25th St. S.W., Mason City, Iowa died after her long courageous battle with cancer for 18 years Wednesday Dec. 18, 2013 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.

A Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday Dec. 21, 2013 at the Epiphany-Parish St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 5th St. S.E., Mason City, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City with a scriptural wake service at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa. Family suggests memorials to Marcia Rachael Funk memorial fund.

Marcia was born Sept. 27, 1948 in Mason City, Iowa the daughter of Kenneth and Mae (McCauley) Merriss.

She was member of the first four year class of Newman High School graduating in 1967. While she was attending high school she worked with her father at Earl May Garden Center. After high school she worked for Ross's Jewelry and then later went to work at Mercy Medical Center in the lab as a histo-technologist. She became board certified and became section head of Histology Lab where she continued to work for over 37years. Marcia always considered her co-workers as an extended family.

Marcia married Claude Funk Oct. 26, 1975 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City. Marcia enjoyed photography, pottery, quilting, arts, crafts, spending time on the river in Lansing, Iowa and attending many different classes at the MacNider Museum. Her biggest enjoyment in her life was attending and photographing her grandchildren in their different events. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Questers.

Marcia is survived by her husband Claude Funk, Mason City, Iowa; two daughters Michelle (Matt) Verdon, Blue Grass, Iowa and Kelly (Joshua) Kratz, Mason City, Iowa; five grandchildren Caden Kratz, Aubrey Verdon, Sammy Kratz, Makenna Verdon and Mya Verdon and a brother Kenneth Merriss, Grand Rapids, Michigan and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and brother-in-laws Marlene (Maurice)Logan and Sherri (Jack) Kielty.
