Obituary ~ Emmanuel Dennis "Bud" Frank

Emmanuel "Bud" Frank, 84, of Clear Lake, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010. His wife, son, and daughter were at his side.

A memorial service was held Friday, Sept. 3, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with Chaplain Jim Allard officiating. According to his wishes, he was cremated. Following the memorial service, a private family inurnment was held at the Memorial Park Columbarium, Mason City, with military honors conducted by members of the Clear Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Emmanuel D. "Bud" Frank was born on June 13, 1926, in Mason City, Iowa the son of Jacob and Katherine Frank. Bud was the youngest of 11 children. He had three brothers and seven sisters.

He attended school at Holy Family Catholic Schools. Bud was inducted into the Army in 1944, where he served his country honorably and faithfully spending, two years in Europe. After receiving his honorable discharge, he spent several years in California.

Bud went to Mason City for a visit where he met Marilyn Anderson at the Surf Ballroom. They were united in marriage on April 11, 1953, and made their home in Clear Lake. To this union were born four children, three boys and one girl.

Bud was a loving and thoughtful husband and father. He liked to keep busy and always had a lot of projects and interests. He liked to watch the Hawkeyes but never put his interests before family time. He spent a lot of time with his children and was very supportive and involved in all of their various activities.

Bud enjoyed a full, active lifestyle. He liked to antique and travel. Bud and Marilyn spent 16 wonderful winters in Texas enjoying dancing, jams, hiking, biking, swimming, and all the great activities there. Bud also enjoyed camping on Lake Superior in Minnesota, gardening, and feeding & watching the birds.

Grateful for having shared 57 years together is his wife, Marilyn, of Clear Lake.

Also left to cherish his memory are his son, Michael Frank of Clear Lake; his daughter, Michelle Hamel and her husband, Tim, of Rochester, Minn.; and grandchildren, Andrea Frank, Amanda Reb and her husband, Jeremiah, of Mason City, and Joshua and Stephanie Hamel, of Rochester. Bud is also survived by two sisters, Teresa Hamman and Barbara Kolda, as well as many other extended family members and friends.

Bud was preceded in death by his father and mother; two sons, Daniel and Douglas; five sisters, and three brothers.

The family requests that any memorials be directed to Hospice of North Iowa, whose wonderful staff was so kind and helpful during Bud's last months.
