Mason City - Mary E. Franke, 92, of Mason City, died Monday, May 26, 2008 at the Good Shepard Center in Mason City.

A Funeral Mass will be held, Thursday, May 29, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 302 Fifth Street Southeast, with Reverend Craig E. Steimel officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2008 from 4-6 P.M. with a rosary service at 5:30 P.M. and a scriptural wake service at 6:00 P.M. at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street Northeast, Mason City.

Memorials may be made out to the Mary Franke Memorial Fund.

Mary was born December 18, 1915, the daughter of William and Margaret (Flanagan) Devereux, in Dougherty, Iowa. She was the youngest of eight children, and attended school in Dougherty at St. Patrick Catholic School. Mary was united in marriage to Urban (Red) Franke on October 18, 1945 in Rockford, Iowa. They were blessed with four children, Dennis, William, Thomas, and Michael Franke.

Mary worked at St. Josephs Mercy Hospital as a nurse’s aide, and later at Sears and Roebuck, until her retirement in 1977.

Mary enjoyed going to church, spending time with her family, reading and cooking. Mary was quick witted, encouraging, funny and hard working. She was a devout Catholic, devoted mother, loving sister, aunt, and friend. Her home was always open to those who enjoyed a cookie, bon bon or an ice cream bar.

She is survived by her two sons; Thomas Franke of Minneapolis, Michael Franke of Ames, five grandchildren, Rachel, Rosie, Greg, Sara, and Jada, one great grandchild, many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Urban in 1959, four brothers, Frances, Alexander, Paul, and Joseph Devereux, and three sisters, Anita Gaubatz, Inez Devereux, and Hilda McManus, two sons, William Franke, and Dennis Franke.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to John Kloster, who ran many errands and helped Mary with her many projects through out the years.
