MASON CITY, Ia., Sept. 10 - Mrs. Anna HALEY of Annaheim, Cal, died within a few moments after she was run over by
an automobile driven by her niece, Mrs. C. C. WILLEY of this place, who did not know her aunt was in the city, at
7 o'clock Wednesday evening. Mrs. WILLEY was driving slowly, according to the testimony of witnesses to the accident.
Lights of a car approaching her blinded her so that she did not see Mrs. HALEY nor knew that calls of pedestrians
were intended for her, until she felt the wheels of her car passing over an object on the pavement.
She stopped instantly, went with the men who carried the unconscious victim into a hospital just across th street, but did not know the identity of the woman until objects from her purse gave her name. "Why, that's my father's sister," she exclaimed through her tears. "I didn't see her at all. I didn't even feel the car hit anyone. I was going so slowly, but I couldn't see very well on account of the lights of a car coming towards me. But I was watching just as carefully as I could." Mrs. HALEY was unconscious when she was taken into the hospital and died a few moments later without regaining consciousness. She had been in the city but a short time, having come here from her home to attend to some business matters. Mrs. HALEY is the mother of Ray HALEY, former Associated Press operator in Mason City, now living in California. Transcription by Sharon R. Becker, March of 2012
