The 90th birthday of Mrs. Anna W. DOUGHERTY, 190 E. Chestnut, widow of Attorney Patrick J. DOUGHERTY, was
celebrated yesterday at a reception for more than 200 friends in the Illinois Club for Catholic Women in Lewis Towers. Mrs. DOUGHERTY
was one of the city's original career girls back in 1887 when she clerked at the Fair Store in the days when it occupied only
one room. The cash boy who worked alongside Annie WALSH, as he still calls her, was Jacob L. KESNER, who became one of Chicago's leading real estate operators. After her marriage, Mrs. DOUGHERTY lived in Dougherty, Ia. Forty-five years ago she returned to Chicago where she has since resided.
She is the mother of Judge Charles S. DOUGHERTY of Municipal court, Mrs. Lloyd LEWIS, Mrs. Harry BOYSEN, Miss Mary DOUGHERTY, James T. DOUGHERTY, the Rev. Gerald M. DOUGHERTY, Sister Mary St. Gerald, all of Chicago, and Joseph E. DOUGHERTY of Portland, Ore., and Daniel B. DOUGHERTY of Provo, Utah. Eight of her children [Daniel was out of the city], two grandchildren, and 150 other guests attended the party. Transcription by Sharon R. Becker, March of 2011
