Going, going, gone

Building comes down to make way for a downtown parking lot

Workers from Charlson Excavation made quick work demolishing former Antique Alley building at 19 S. 3rd St. Wednesday, May 4. The site will now be transformed into a parking lot for the busy downtown and City Park area.

V.F.W. Post 4868 purchased the property for $250,000 late last year and offered to give it to the city for public parking.

The city agreed to pay all costs associated with the parking lot project. It intends to develop the lot in a similar fashion to the adjacent parking lot just east of the new area.

O. D. SEARS built the structure, which served in the 1950's as a Ford garage, operated by former Mayor Curley HINTZMAN. Later, SEARS' daughter Betty BICKFORD owned the building. Its most recent use was as an antique store, operated by Jack and Shirley PRESTHOLT.
