Iowa Boys Who Have Sacrificed Their Lives That Democracy Might Live
Pvt. Axel C. Rasmussen, Clear Lake. Pvt. Rasmussen was born in 1892. He served during World War I with the 168th Infantry. Pvt. Rasmusen was wounded by a shell and was being transported back to the hospital in an field ambulance. He became so weak, however, that he died before reaching the hospital, and died on July 16, 1918, Champagne, France. Pvt. Rasmussen was interred at Clear Lake Cemetery.
