[Section 8, Page 13] Ray Pauley, a member of the advisory board and general chairman of the fund campaign,
is shown turn the first spade of sod at the ground breaking ceremonies for the Salvation Army building in 1951. From
left are Maj. D. E. Norris, Des Moines, Iowa, division commander; the Rev. E. W. Von Busch, First Baptist Church; Robert
Zeigler of the Percy Construction Co.; Maj. E. H. Tieman of the Mason City corps and Pauley.
Among the recent new building projects in Mason City is the Salvation Army Citadel at 203 1st S. W., at a cost
of $60,000. It was dedicated Feb. 10, 1952, giving the organization for the first time a building of its own after a half
century of work in the city. The Salvation Army was recently left a $15,000 bequest from the B. C. Way estate, which
will be used to retire the debt on the building. The construction of the citadel was a tribute to the work of Maj. E. H.
Tieman, in charge of the Mason City Salvation Army Corps, and the advisory committee.
