The 90 anniversary of the organization of the Old Settlers Association of Cedar Co. Iowa, was held June 10, 1926 at the Court house. Called to order by Mrs. Phelps, vice pres. At 10:36 o’clock a.m. being the 55 meeting of the Association. The President, vice pres. and sect. was the committee to recommend and executive committee for the coming year. Adjourned till 1:30 p.m.

2 p.m. Called to order by the president. Prayer by Rev. R. Stanley Brown. Song by Male Quartette. Address by pres. which was fine. Song by Quartette. Reading of minutes of the last meeting. Reading of obituaries of which they were 89. Address by W. R. Boyd of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, his address was greatly appreciated. Report of committees and election of officers. President A. L. 1. Thomas Challis was born August 2, 1852 in Essex County England. Came to America and to Cedar Co. Iowa, 1871. He was married to Sarah Goodrich Feb. 17, 1876. Died June 15, 1926. Age 73 years, 10 months and 13 days.

2. Miss Nellie Fay was born near Tipton, Iowa on March 4, 1862. Died June 18, 1926 age 64 yr. 8 months and 14 days. 3. Martin Van Buren born near Glandstone, Ill in 1837. Came to Cedar Co. in 1872. Died at West Branch, Ia, June 1926. Age 89 years.

4. Mrs. Trecia Kirken of Mechanicsville died at the home of her sister Mrs. Walshire June 20, 1926. Age 80 years.

5. C. A. Morehouse was born in Cedar Co. Iowa Dec. 8, 1871 on January 1st, 1895. He was united in marriage with Miss Minnie A. Ford of Cedar Co. Died at his home in Tipton, Ia June 28, 1926. Age 54 years 6 months and 20 days.

6. Mrs. Henry Leach. She was born in Germany on Dec. 28, 1848, came to the United States and to Cedar Co. 52 years ago. Died June 29k, 1926. Age 77 years, 6 months and 1 day.

7. John Nutt Ives was born May 9, 1837 at Topson Vermont. Came to Iowa 1855. Married Isabel Ford of Tipton, Ia. in 1862. Died June 25, 1926 at Boulder, Col. Age 89 years 1 month and 16 days.

8. Edward Herr was born in Cedar Co. April 19, 1877, was married to Miss Christi Lane Feb. 8, 1908. Died July 8, 1926, age 49 years, 2 months and 19 days.

9. Nellie A. (Brink) Walters was born at Tipton, Ia. June 23, 1869. She was united in marriage to James Turner Walters Sept. 1st 1889. Died at the home of her daughter July 5, 1926, Galva, Iowa Age 57 years and 12 days.

10. William Henry Pirkey was born at Paton, Green Co. Iowa. March 9, 1864. He spent his early boyhood south of Tipton. He was married to Viola Pletcher on Sept. 1, 1889. Died at St. Luke’s hospital, Cedar Rapids July 7, 1926. Age 62 years, 3 months and 28 days.

11. Mrs. Mary Clogld Fitzpatrick was born Aug. 3, 1862 in Muscatine Co. Married Daniel Fitzpatrick Jan 12, 1881. Died at her home near Cedar Valley July 25, 1926. Age 63 years, 11 months and 22 days.

12. Mrs. Margaret Ann Spencer was born Aug. 12, 1856 in Cedar Co. Ia. Died at her home in Rochester, Ia. July 29, 1926. Age 69 years, 11 months and 17 days.

13. William Spear was born in Co. Tyrone Ireland, came to the United States in 1854 and to Cedar Co., Iowa in 1855. He passed away at the home of his daughter in Atlantic, Iowa, July 29, 1926, age 85 years.

14. Miss Lizzie Burk was born July 10, 1859 in Tipton, Iowa. Died at Mercy Hospital Cedar Rapids, Ia. Aug. 3, 1926, age 61 years and 2 days.

15. Miss Agnes E. Safley was born in Red Oak township, Cedar Co. Iowa. Passed away Aug. 13, 1926 in Santa Ana, Cala. Age 74 years.

16. Nancy (Wilson) Baughman was born in Perry Co. Pa. June 30, 1841. Married Jeremiah Baughman Dec. 28, 1865. Died Aug. 10, 1926, aged 85 years, 1 month and 11 days.

17. Benjamin F. Bossert was born in Greenberg, Pa. on Oct. 10, 1843. Came to Iowa in 1851. He was married to Louisa Kiser on Dec. 28, 1865; he passed away Aug. 19, 1926, age 82 years, 10 mo. and 9 days.

18. William H. Sheets was born in Indiana Sep. 3, 1850, he came to Cedar Co. when 4 years old, Married Miss Fedelia Ann Wright and died in Tipton Ia. Aug. 10, 1926, aged 74 yr. 11 months and 27 days.

19. Susan A. Phelps was born in Iowa township, Cedar Co., Ia. in the year 1845 and passed away at her home near Springdale, Ia. August 23, 1926, age 81 years, 4 months and 8 days.

20. A. H. Fisher, one of Cedar co. pioneers passed at his late home in Iowa City Sep. 10, 1926, aged 85 years.

21. John Wesley Mitchell was born in Pennsylvania Oct. 6, 1849, came to Tipton, Iowa when 5 years old. Married Miss Susan Woodling on Sep 9, 1869. Passed away at his home in Armstrong, Iowa, Sep. 9, 1925. Age 76 years, 11 months and 9 days.

22. William Edward Shearer was born in Tipton, Ia. July 22, 1858. Died at St. Mary’s hospital, Pierre, South Dakota Aug. 7, 1926, aged 68 years and 15 days.

23. Malinda (Parsons) Neeley was born in Cedar Co. Iowa May 5, 1848. Married Robert Neeley in January, 1875. Passed away at the home of her son in Nebraska Oct. 1, 1926. Age 78 years, 4 months and 28 days.

24. Clarence V. Sharpless was born near Springdale, Iowa April 28th, 1858. He was united in marriage to Etta Bell Mayer March 22, 1894. Departed this life Oct. 1, 1926, age 68 years, 5 months and 3 days.

25. Samuel Maclay Murray was at Landisburg, Perry Co. Penn., Jan 18, 1850. Came to Tipton Ia. the spring of 1870. He was united in marriage with Miss Theresa Anne Elliott of Tipton Oct. 25, 1871. Died at his home in Tipton, Ia. Oct. 3, 1926, age 76 years, 8 months and 15 days.

26. Sarah (Heilman) Spitler was born April 19, 1850 in Miami Co. Indiana. She married Stewart Spitler Dec. 2, 1867 of Inland township, Cedar Co. Iowa. Died Aug. 9, 1926, age 76 years, 3 months and 20 days.

27. Stelle Viola (Barkhurst) Nephew was born in Cedar Co. Iowa, March 23, 1878. She was united in marriage with Thomas Nephew January 16, 1901. Died at the University Hospital, Iowa City, Ia. October 15, 1926. Age 48 years, 6 months and 22 days.

28. George W. Downing was born Feb. 3, 1850 in Bloomfield, Green Co. Ind. Came to Cedar Co. Ia. in 1854. Was united in marriage with Emma Virginia Walter Sep. 26, 1871. Died at the home of his daughter Mrs. Hal Thompson at West Liberty, Iowa, on Oct. 19, 1926, age 76 years, 8 months and 16 days.

29. Harriet Melissa (Fisher) Kiser was born at Mansfield, Ohio, April 7, 1849. She was united in marriage with Reuben Kiser Dec. 31, 1869. Died at the home of her daughter in Portland, Oregon Oct. 12, 1926. Age 77 yr. 6 months and 5 days. Page 129

30. W. H. Comstock was born Oct. 13, 1851 at Clinton, Ill. Came to Cedar Co. Iowa in 1864. Married Anna E. Roberts on Feb. 20, 1884. Married the second time Mrs. Mary J. Garrison. Died Oct. 13, 1926 at Newport Beach, California, age 75 years, 10 months and 15 days.

31. John H. Hipple was born Aug. 12, 1858; he was united in marriage to Anna Hawk Dec. 25, 1879. On March 13, 1888 he was united in marriage to Anna Hurshman. Died Oct. 27, 1926, aged 68 years, 2 months and 14 days.

32. Harriet P. (Wiggins) Reid was born in Nashville, Ohio Sept. 15, 1841. Came to Iowa when 18 years of age. She was united in marriage to James P. Reid Aug. 11, 1868. Died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dave Sanford Nov. 1926. Age 85 years, 1 month and 17 days.

33. Sarah (Marker) Wagaman was born in Dark Co. Ohio Aug. 13, 1841. Aug. 15, 1861 she was united in marriage to Josiah Wagaman. Came to Iowa more than 50 years ago. Died Nov. 3, 1926, age 85 yr. 2 months and 20 days.

34. Thomas Moore was born June 10, 1848 in Perry Co., Ohio. Came to Cedar Co. Ia. in 1851. On Oct. 28, 1868 he was united in marriage with Mary Ellen Harrison. Died Nov. 4, 1926, age 83 years, 4 months and 24 days.

35. Jency Took Bartholomew was born in Indiana 1850, came to Cedar Co. Iowa when a small child. She passed away at her home in Tipton, Ia. Nov. 8, 1926, aged 76 years and 16 days.

36. Charles Sumner Hawkins was born at Davenport, Ia. Jan. 2, 1857. Came to Cedar Co. May 1861. He was united in marriage June 2, 1881 with Miss Maria M. Difley. Died Nov. 11, 1926 at his home in Tipton Aged 69 years, 10 months and 9 days.

37. Charles Frances was born in Cedar Co. Ia. Nov. 17, 1860. Died Nov. 14, 19265 at Middle Inlet, Wis. Age 65 years, 11 months and 27 days.

38. John McClellan was born near Perth, Canada May 7th, 1831. Came to Cedar Co. in 1848, married Miss Mary Arlington June 17, 1868. Died Nov. 14, 1926 at his home in Mechanicsville, Iowa, age 95 years, 6 months and 7 da.

39. M. H. Miller was born at Pleasant Hill in Sugar Creek township, Cedar Co. Iowa, Jan. 18, 1854. Mr. Miller has been married twice. On the 26th day of December 1876 he married Mary A. Leech, for his second Miss he married Miss Dollie Sheldon on Sept. 19, 1881. Died Nov. 28, 1926, age 72, 10 months and 10 days.

43. Mary (Cessford) Shuck was born in Utica, N.Y. Aug. 22, 1853. Died at his home in Clarence, Iowa, Dec. 2, 1926, age 73 years, 3 months and 10 days.

44. Calab H. Wickersham came to Tipton, Cedar Co. Iowa in 1865. Died at Des Moines, Ia. Dec. 10, 1926, aged 80 years.

45. Joel M. Walker came to Cedar Co. Iowa in 1854, Died at his home in West Liberty, Iowa Dec. 19, 1926, age 77 years.

46. James G. Cessford was born on the Atlantic Ocean July 24, 1851. Came to Iowa 1854. On March 29, 1881 he was united in marriage to Miss Ellen Cosgriff. Died at his home in Fairfield Township, Cedar Co. Ia. Dec. 22, 1926. Age 75 years, 4 months and 28 days.

47. Mrs. Ellen (Lee) McMillen was born in Ohio. Came to Cedar Co. Iowa in 1854. Died at her home in Santa Ana, Calif., December 29, 1926, age about 80 years.

49. George Pirie was born in Cedar Co. Iowa. Died at his home in Orange, Calif.

51. William Franklin Walters was born in Cedar Co. Iowa Dec. 11, 1858. He was united in marriage with Jennie Strauser March 17, 1887. Died Jan. 10, 1927, at the age of 68 years, 29 days.

52. Mrs. Anna Melissa (Hanlen) Palmer was born in Cedar Co. Iowa. Died at her home at Pittsburg, Kansas, age 76 years.

53. Celestia Clara (Stiles) Curtis was born at Brecksville, Ohio Jan 10, 1839. Married H. A. Curtis in 1867. Died at Rio Vista, Texas Jan. 21, 1927, age 88 years and 11 days.

58. George A. Brown was born Sep. 9, 1868 in Butler Co. Penn. Came to Cedar Co. Iowa when two years old. On March 27, 1890 he married Miss Blanche Forsythe. Died at the home of his daughter in West Branch, Iowa, Feb. 10, 1927. Age 63 years, 5 months and 1 day.

59. A. R. Peden was born in Somerset Co., Penn. Feb. 22, 1844. Came to Cedar Co. in 1849 with his parents. He was united in marriage with Miss Sophie Mary Hardman in 1869. Died at his home in Mallard Iowa January 15, 1927, age 82 years, 10 months and 28 days.

60. Joseph Henry Fisher was born Dec. 19, 1837 in Carroll Co. Maryland. Came to Cedar Co. Ia. in 1857. He was united in marriage with Miss Margaret Ann Montz on Dec. 15, 1877. Died Feb. 6, 1927, age 89 yr. 1 month and 17 days.

61. D. W. Garner was born Nov. 26, 1838 in Carroll Co. Maryland. He came to Cedar Co. Iowa when 16 years of age. On Sept. 25, 1862 he was united in marriage with Miss Emily Frances Dickinson. Died Feb. 16, 1927 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. F. Bunken, Tipton, Iowa. Age 88 yrs., 2 months and 11 days.

62. Mrs. Mary (Milne) Laing was born Aug. 4, 1833 in Aberdeen Scotland. Came to Scott Co. Ia. in 1855 and to Red Oak, Cedar Co. in 1875. She was united in marriage to William Laing Nov. 12, 1855. Died Feb. 8, 1927, age 93 yrs., 6 mos. And 4 days.

63. Fred Rixe Sr. was born in Eston Nienberg Germany June 16, 1849. Came to the United States and to Cedar Co. Iowa, when 16 yrs. of age. Married Marie Dellmann Dec. 16, 1875. Died Feb. 10, 1927 at Mercy Hospital, Davenport, Iowa, age 77 yrs. 1 month and 27 days.

64. Mrs. Peter McNee was born near Sutliff, Iowa Aug. 12, 1850. She married to Peter McNee March 21, 1875. Departed this life at her home in McCanicsville, IA. Feb. 6, 1929. Age 76 yrs. 5 mon. and 21 days.

65. Ruth Ann (Bradley) Owen was born in Tipton, Ia. Oct. 6, 1841. She was united in marriage with Reuben Owen March 15, 1860. Died at her home in Tipton IA Feb. 16, 1927. Age 85 years, 4 months and 10 days.

66. Harriett N. (Moffit) Lamon was born in Richland Co. Aug. 9, 1847. Came to Cedar Co. Iowa when 11 yrs. old. Married Jonathan Lamon Dec. 24, 1870. Died at her home in Buchanan Ia. Age 79 years, 6 months and 10 days.

69. U. S. Grant Baker was born in Cedar Co. Iowa February 6, 1864 on May 19, 1889. He was united in marriage with Miss Ella C. Highly. Died March 6, 1927, age 63 and 1 month.

70. I. J. Hamiel was born in Morrison Co. Ohio Feb. 2, 1860. Came to Cedar Co. Iowa when four years old. Feb. 9, 1882 he was married to Ella R. Wilson. Died March 10, 1927. Age 67 yrs., 1 month and 8 days.

71. Charles H. Foy was born in Tipton Iowa Oct. 4, 1876. Married Miss Elizabeth Benesh of Mt. Vernon, Ia. in 1901. Died March 15, 1927. Age 50 yrs. 5 months and 11 days.

73. S. M. Davis died at his home Clarence, Ia. March 23, 1927.

74. H. B. Crone was born near Mechanicsville Iowa in 1871. Died at Des Moines, Iowa, March 30, 1927, age 56 yrs.

75. Mrs. Rebecca (Ingman) Burdette was at Kenton, Ohio 1847. Came to Tipton, Iowa, when 87 yrs. old. She was united in marriage to William Burdette July 3, 1867. Passed away at her home in Callaway, Neb. March 25, 1927, age 80 yrs.

76. Mrs. Sarah Francis (Denson) Hecht was born in Jones Co. Iowa, Jan 2, 1845. She was united in marriage with Henry Hecht at Tipton, Iowa May 17, 1864. Died at the home of her daughter Mrs. F. B. Cobb in Tipton, Iowa April 10, 1927, age 82 yrs. 8 months and 8 days.

77. Minnie Florence (Gay) Swartz was born April 30, 1860 near Tipton, Ia. She was united in marriage with Wm. Swartz Feb. 23, 1893. Died at her home in Tipton April 19, 1927. Age 66 yr. 11 months and 19 days.

91. Milton Shawver was born in Carrol Co. Ohio Sep. 18, 1844. Married to Esther Kauffman Dec. 6, 1866. He died at the home of his son Ed. May 24, 1927. Age 82 yrs., 8 months and 11 days.

92. Mrs. Emma LeHen was born in Tipton, Iowa July23, 1862. Died at Cedar Rapids Iowa June 8, 1827. Age 64 yrs., 10 mos. and 15 days.
