LOWDEN. Population, 584. An incorporated town on Yankee Run creek and the C. & N. W. Ry., in Springfield township, Cedar county, 180 miles e. of Des Moines, and 16 n. e. of Tipton, the county seat. Settled in 1847, it contains Methodist, Evangelical and Lutheran churches, German and English schools, 2 banks and a weekly newspaper, the News. Ships live stock and grain. Tel., W. U. Exp., Am Telephone connection. Charles H. Reid, postmaster.
