Lowden Water Tower

This water tank was located on a spot that at that time was the northeast part of Lowden. The 102 foot structure, having a capacity of 45,000 gallons, was painted black. The color was changed to silver in the year 1936. The pumphouse to the right was replaced with a new one a few years ago.

FIRST LOWDEN JAIL HOUSE
The above picture shows the first Lowden jail house built in the early 1900's. Also note the men on the light pole. They were probably installing electricity as you will note there were no wires strung from pole to pole when this photo was taken.

I REMEMBER WHEN -
. . . . My mother lived at 610 5th street. She never turned a hobo away from our door without giving him something to eat. At that time, Hobo Jungle was close to the south end of Harding Street. During the time a train would stop for filling of coal and water, a rider could jump off, run a block, beg a sandwich and be back on the train before it moved again.
