WHAT A DIFFERENCE 25 YEARS MAKES
Comparing prices of 25 years ago and now, a pound of bacon ranges from 39 cents to $2.19. Sides of beef were from 49 cents a pound to $1.25. Ground beef was selling at 35 cents a pound in 1957 and now in 1982, it is selling for $1.49 a pound.
In the Produce Department, prices on a head of lettuce vary from 19 cents to $1.09.
For all you coffee lovers, a pound of coffee has increased from 67 cents to $2.99 in the last 25 years.
If you are thinking about sitting down for a Pepsi, 25 years ago you could buy a case for 99 cents,now you will pay 50 cents for one can, or $4.90 a case.
Can you remember when you could go to a church supper of Roast Beef and all the trimmings for $1.25 or go to the Lowden Memorial Park Chicken Bar-B-Q for $1.00? This you could do just 25 years ago.
We have also seen land value skyrocket from $300 an acre to the $3,000-$5,000 figure in this area, with interest rates around the 17% range.
In 1960 the price of 100 gallons of diesel fuel was $15.70, although in 1982 it is $116. Quite a difference.

Mrs. Elsa Mensing was presented an award in 1964 for 48 yrs. of teaching in Zion Sunday School. Louise Pauls and Lane Strackbein taught for 50 yrs.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Busch of Lost Nation caught a 50 lb. catfish while fishing in the Mississippi at Bellevue in August 1964. The fish measured 54” long. Mrs. Busch was formerly Myrtie Muhs of rural Lowden.
