Citizens of Lowden:
I am pleased to extend congratulations on the observance of the 125th anniversary of Lowden and to share some thoughts with you on this historic occasion.
Learning about the rich heritage of Iowa and its communities can illuminate our lives and inspire us to meet today’s challenges. So I welcome efforts to bring alive Iowa’s dramatic and vigorous history.
The world in which you celebrate this anniversary differs greatly from the one in which Thomas Shearer lived when he named Lowden after his hometown, Loudenville, Ohio, in 1857. What has not changed are the hopes and dreams shared by different generations of Iowans.
Lowden rejoiced with the coming of the railroad and anguished when a fire ravaged the business district in 1869. Most recently, establishment of a new medical facility provides Lowden good reason again to be proud of what it has to offer.
Congratulations on your 125 years as a community and best wishes for many more years of progress and for a bright future!
Sincerely,
/s/ Robert D. Ray
