     Hugo Richmann, former Lowden resident and brother of Mrs. Edward Conrad, who with his wife was a Peace Corps volunteer to Guatemala in 1963, helped natives with the growing and grafting of rubber trees.

     Leon Mensing, local Ford dealer, won the title “Midget Mechanic of the Year,” receiving a gold Torque Wrench, when his Offy won the 1963 Midget Championship at Birmingham, Alabama.

     Hugo Deininger was named a “Special Citizen” of Anamosa in 1968 for this service at the bank and his many civic endeavors.

     Albert Mensing served 8 terms as a state legislator in the House of Representatives, served as State Commander of World War I Veterans’ Association and was the founder and first president of the Cedar County History Society.

     Emil Andresen, Electrical Engineer, built the Chicago Board of Education’s FM Station WBEZ and remained their chief Engineer for 30 years, later also building electronic language laboratories for high school use.

     Craig Wiebel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Wiebel, was one of the Cedar Rapids Gazette carriers chose for the Young Columbus trip to Italy and Tunisia in 1969.

     Florence Montz, daughter of the late Mr. and Mr. and Mrs. Emil Stolte, was president of the 200,000 member International Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and was a delegate to the 5th Assembly of the Lutheran World Federation in France in 1970.

     Michelle Elowsky, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Elowsky, was one of 13 young people appointed as a Page for the Iowa Senate in 1977.

     Coach Darrell (Bo) Breneman of Wellsburg, another Lowden native, was inducted in to the Iowa Girls’ Athletic Union Hall of Fame in 1978, having taken his teams to State Tourney play on six occasions.

     Dale Twachtmann, son of the Henry Twachtmanns, directed construction of a $90 million waste water plant for the city of Tampa in 1978 and in 1979 was named one of the top ten Public Works Administrators in the U.S. and Canada.

     Louis Licht, son of the Robert Lichts, an Agriculture Consulting Engineer of Corvallis, Oregon, was named that state’s Engineer of the Year at the 1980 annual meeting of the Professional Engineers of Oregon.

     Dr. Judith Bowstead, Luther College Professor and daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W. E. Bowstead, was named Iowa’ s Reading Teacher of the Year in 1980 by the Iowa Council of International Reading Association.

     Burton Kross, son of former resident Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kross, was named director of ERT, an international ecology consultation firm, and in 1981 was named president of a newly formed subsidiary to manage the group, which has projects in Saudi Arabia, Venezuela and other foreign countries.

     Jeff Jensen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerold Jensen, and serving in the U.S. Marines, is a member of the Honor Guards in Washington, D.C., marching with his unit in Arlington National Cemetery and also took part in the Inaugural Parade of President Reagan.

     David Licht, a member of the Melvin Licht family, is President of Northwest Associated Consultants, Inc. and was formerly Senior Planner of the City of Minneapolis and director of Physical Planning for the University of Minnesota.

     The Muhs brothers, Marvin, Allen, Bill, Robert and John, sons of Mrs. Lorena Muhs, have won repeated awards for high milk production from the Dairy Herd Improvement Association and this year (1982) their cow, “Promise”, was named the top scoring cow in the state in production of milk.

     Mrs. Adeline Mowry was named the 1982 Outstanding Senior Citizen of Cedar county, voted by county-wide ballot of the senior citizens of the county.

     To those people and many others who have been a source of pride and an inspiration to our generation, we salute you!
