Community Worship Service – July 22, 1984

On Sunday, July 22 at 10 a.m. a community worship service was held at the park. The worship service had been planned by a committee consisting of representatives of all the established churches in the Clarence area.

The theme of the first part of the service was patterned after the “old time services.” A huge, well directed, community choir was seated on a large stage. Lay people, all male, presented the scripture reading, sermonette and prayer.

The offering taken during a short intermission was used to help people in need in the Clarence community and surrounding area.

The second part of the worship was a modern version. Lay people, both men and women, helped with the service. Rev. Calvin Schumacher, minister at St. John’s United Church of Christ, was the narrator. Rev Stephanie Raphael, minister of the Clarence Methodist church, was the modern preacher.

In spite of the very hot weather it was well attended and very meaningful and inspirational service. Lois and Lawrence Ruther.
