Women’s Fellowship of St. John’s United Church of Christ

The Women’s Fellowship is the basic organization of St. John’s United Church of Christ. They meet every third Thursday of the month with an average attendance of 45-50. There are 3 sister circles, namely, South Prairie Aid, King’s Daughters and Lend-a-Hand.

Since the Clarence Centennial in 1959 Women’s Fellowship has expanded in all activities. They sponsor a soup supper and a sandwich supper, spring and fall, with proceeds used for benevolences.

Each year they contribute generously to such United Church of Christ supported missions as Sunburst Youth Home, Ft. Wayne Children’s Home, Back Bay Missions, Ulich Children’s Home, Hoyleton Children’s Home, Mayflower Home and Neighborhood House.

The Fellowship also contributes to more local programs such as Migrant workers at Muscatine, Camp Courageous and campship for our youth at Blake’s Grove and Pilgrim Heights camp.

On a yearly basis we contribute to church world service by sponsoring blanket Sunday, call for clothing and an all day sewing to make children’s clothing.

“Harmony in Marriage” is a booklet present to all newlyweds.

Contributions are also made to the bell choirs and the upkeep of the parsonage.

We work together with the Clarence United Methodist church women in sponsoring vacation bible school and world day of prayer.

The “Quilters” are in session once a month to quilt and/or piece them for quilting.

In 1984 we united with the women of the Methodist church in sponsoring a food booth at the Clarence city park in observance of the town’s quasquicentennial, following by joint church services held in the park on Sunday morning.
