Partners in Study Club

On the evening of April 24, 1940 at 7:30 o’clock a group of ten young women, inspired by the Cultus Club of Clarence, met at the home of Charlene Bunge for the purpose of organizing a Jr. Women’s Club. Pi Iota Sigman, later renamed Partners in Study Club, has continued as one of the General Federation of Women’s clubs, we continue to take pride in our own community projects. The most important one has been sponsoring the Red Cross Swimming Program for the youth of Clarence. Each year, for over thirty years, we’ve handled the registration and made arrangements for the transportation of all participating students.

For many years the club members planted petunias along main street wherever businesses provided flower boxes. Later plantings were also done at the Zybell Library and the Clarence Nursing Home. In recent years, when the price of the twenty-one dozen petunias became prohibitive for our treasury, we discontinued planting in the business area.

Our membership totals seventeen, with none of the ten charter members still belonging to the club.
