Order of the Eastern Star

    Clarence Chapter No. 461 was instituted on the afternoon of June 8, 1914 by the Worthy Grand Matron of Iowa, Order of the Eastern Star.

    Eleven Clarence people, being members of other Chapters, were admitted by demit and eight initiated in the afternoon with four more in the evening.

    The Chapter was constituted December 2, 1914 and assigned the Number 461. In March of 1925, the Chapter furnished a room at the Boone Home. Clarence Chapter held their meetings in the rooms of the Mt. Hope Lodge No. 501 on the third floor of the building known for many years as Kahls’ Café. November 1977, they moved their meeting place to the Legion Hall. December 1981, 67 members from Garland Chapter at Wheatland Consolidated with the Clarence Chapter.

    Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month except July and August. 1984 Worthy Matron is Arnola Dewell and Worthy Patron is Henry Klatt. Membership is 133 with 37 of these being Life Members.
