OLD PEDEE CHURCH IS TORN DOWN

Fifty or sixty years ago Pedee was quite a village. At one time there were three stores, a postoffice, school and church as part of the settlement, and several families resided there. The village has long ago disappeared. The school and church were long ago discontinued, and even the buildings, except the church disappeared.

The old church which was built in 1862 and was the worshipping place of the Cumberland Presbyterians, has also had to yield to the march of progress. A few weeks ago the old building, long in disuse, was torn down and the lumber, windows and seats sold at auction.

A new building to be used as a voting place has been erected in the vicinity of the church site.

Of Pedee, which will be remembered by many as a once busy little village between Springdale and Rochester, only the old cemetery remains, reminiscent of the early days.
