WILLIAM C. WELSH was born in Knox County, Ohio, on September 18, 1855. His family moved to Bureau County, Illinois, in 1859, and William Welsh later clerked in a store until 1870, when he worked on the railroad for three years. He then worked in a dry goods store for five years prior to moving to Cass County, Iowa, in the spring of 1878. He purchased a farm in the northwest quarter of Section 25 three miles east of Marne on the east side of Elk Horn Road in Brighton Township, where he made a specialty of raising Holstein cattle. William C. Welsh married Katie P. Murphy in Buda, Illinois, on September 6, 1875, and as of 1884 the couple had two children - E. Fay and George G.
